  1. I was there yesterday, November 5, and they are very much open. The place wasn't exactly abuzz with visitors on a Friday, but all areas had some activity. Oh, and nothing other than the usual entrance fee and a temperature check was required to get in.
  2. Can anyone tell me if the San Kampaeng hot springs are open during these COVID times? I'd rather not go there and find them closed. Then, too, is there anyplace that has a hot tub? I know that some hotels and resorts have what they call a hot tub, but with ambient temperature water, which doesn't make it a hot tub. Thanks.
  3. My 12th grader (M6) is planning to attend a university in Bangkok next year. How does one find out what kinds of financial assistance such as grants and scholarships are possibly available to Thai students?
  4. About Chaindrite, it comes in a couple different flavors. I don't know the killing power, but the odor varies. Look on the back of the can for a black label with the number 3. That's the one that is less odoriferous in my estimation. Chaindrite #1 does not have the black label, and it smells like kerosene...really powerful and nasty, I think. Smell or no smell, it works well.
  5. Well, I, too, am among the few who don't use a smartphone. I actually do have one that I bought second-hand, but I prefer my little pocket phone which does not even have a camera. But, as was earlier stated, it looks like if I ever even want to travel on an airline I will be forced to use a smartphone. The one I have is old and rickety, so a shiny new one it'll have to be. So far, I'm still managing very well with my little cell phone on which I get probably fewer than half a dozen calls a week. Any online business--serious or nonsense--is done at my computer, and, having done so for decades now, I'm quite comfortable operating one. I know that I will have to take the plunge one day, though.
  6. Regarding the supposed customs fees that Amazon charges: Some months ago, I won a small battle with one of the world's largest corporations. I'd ordered a couple of books--just books and nothing else--through Amazon. As usual, they imposed an import tax with the promise that they'd refund whatever portion of the fee that wasn't required. (The refund part is mostly true, but who really knows how that amount is determined?) Anyway, after placing the order, I contacted Amazon's customer service department and told them that Thailand imposes no fees on importing books--at least in the small quantity I was wanting. I told them that I wanted the full amount of the fee reimbursed. I even let them know that I considered it a scam on their part. They said that they'd have to pass my concern along to their legal department for further consideration. Fine with me. It took a few days and another phone call, but I won. Amazon returned the full amount of the fee to my credit card. One would think that with the superhuman computers and technicians employed by Amazon, they'd be able to sort through all the customs charges imposed by every country, and program their computers accordingly.
  7. C'mon now. The distance from the top of the head to the butt is the same whether sitting on a chair or on the floor.
  8. It may be splitting hairs, but the use of "COVID-19 preventative measures" would be better expressed as the mitigation of or the lessening of COVID-19 transmission. We do know how to diminish the risk of infection; preventing it altogether is another thing.
  9. I wouldn't touch one of those sandwiches with a ten-foot pole. Mayonnaise and the sun spell food poisoning. One hour in the heat will turn mayo into a bacteria factory. Save your 20 baht; it ain't worth the risk. https://oureverydaylife.com/dangerous-leave-sandwich-mayo-out-several-hours-27470.html
  10. Directly north of 3 Kings Monument is a very good print shop. They shrunk and printed on high-quality, glossy (almost plastic) paper my passport photo page. It's perfect and cheap. Streetview: https://goo.gl/maps/AA1BTND38yge8Hne9
