  1. My first marriage lasted from 1976 until 1997 in the UK. I am on my second marriage here in Thailand and we celebrated our 23rd anniversary last Friday, plus a further 7 years before that. Our son is 18, 19 come August 1st. It works for us. We also have Thai friends in the UK, Germany and Denmark who have been married longer than us.
  2. It all depends on who wins the election, who gains the most electorate seats and party list seats. It also depends on the EC and the CC NOT resulting in the dirty tricks that they did in the last "election". Depending on the number of seats won will also depend on the winning party joining in a coalition with the second winning party. If for example the PTP and the MFP join in a coalition and win more that 376 electorate seats between then, this will nullify the unelected 250 senators votes. Each party that wins 25 seats (I am not sure if party list seats count) can nominate up to 3 persons eligible to become the PM.
  3. My Thai wife no longer looks like she did when we met 30 years ago. My love for her has only grown over that time. I unfortunately have not stood the tests of time as well as she has.

  5. Now she is starting to learn all the little things I used to do but cannot anymore. Things like tossing the laundry into the washing machine, pulling it out and hanging it up. then folding it for putting away. I can still do it but it takes 3 times as long. Driving to the big village and calling at 5 or 6 shops in 1 trip instead of 1 shop and 5 or 6 trips.. Now I have to ask her to drive me. Transferring my pensions from Wise to the BKK bank and from there to KBank. Doing the monthly bulk shop 65 km away. It is an age thing that comes to all of us eventually.
  6. I try to provide a link if I can, but if I cannot I usually read the post but don't reply. One problem seems to be that some posters make ridiculous unfounded claims which are patently false, and either cannot or will not back them up.
  7. Well If my wife wanted to get to BKK, (I don't drive any more) it is about 350 km. We live in that blank area to the left where nothing is shown. Between KPP and the house there are at least 40 ICE gas stations and no EV charging stations. It is OK if you are on a main highway, but out in rural Thailand, which is the majority of the country and the people, there is very little to nothing unless you charge your EV at home. EVs at present are fine but how many EV tractors, etans, iron buffalos, motorcycles are there available and at what price, for the majority of the poor Thai people?
  8. My Thai wife was beautiful with long black hair 30 years ago. Now she has stopped dying it and IMHO she is still beautiful. I, OTOH, have not aged as well. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and not necessarily in the eyes of an onlooker.
  9. I hope so. I haven't had a good week since I had a blackout in February. I was up at the kitchen and the next thing I knew I was in a hospital with no idea which one, what time, day or month it was, or even how I got there. I simply blacked out and have no memory of time or place or even how long I has been out. Now I am slowly getting better by about 1% a day, I hope. That was my second one, I think.
  10. Perhaps they are right and you may be wrong. It depends so much on the poll results and what each individual wants to believe.
  11. Best way to get the results that I can think of. I try to ignore most polls, as I am a disbeliever in the results, due to the fact that they can be manipulated to get the desired result, by whoever commissions the poll. As an example there are polls running in Thailand saying that the UTN and the BJT are doing very well at he same time that there are polls saying both parties are in the also rans. Which one is correct?
  12. I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet and AFAIK my nearest public charging point is on the route 1 AH 1 some 60 km away. The MG Garage has 1 or 2, Robinsons has the same. So, to charge my EV, if I had one, at a public charging point, I would lose 60km of battery charge just to get home again. Do you have a map showing all of these wonderful charging stations?
  13. There is already a 36% surplus of power generation available. What IS necessary is an upgrade of the entire PEA network including new transformers, cabling, gangs going around clearing the trees away from the power lines and upgraded home meters and power lines. The phasing out of old coal fired generators, more use of renewable energy sources and far more efficient contracts for small power producers. https://www.krungsri.com/en/research/industry/industry-outlook/Energy-Utilities/Power-Generation/IO/io-power-generation-21/#:~:text=This includes plants that are,and oil (Figure 5). The ability for household using solr to sell the surplus back to EGAT.
  14. How about the UTN, BJT or the PPRP? Are they small parties too?
  15. Like so many things it depends on a poll. To get the result that you want in a poll you need the answer before you start. Then you choose the questions and then you choose the people you believe will give the answers that you want. That way you get the result that you want, by asking a minimal percentage of the people you have chosen.
  16. perhaps he means me as I am 78, served in the RAF for 25 years and proud of it. I swore allegiance to QE ii back in 1960 and if it is possible (due to timing) I will do so again on Saturday. It is NOT compulsory. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-65435426 People watching the Coronation will be invited to join a "chorus of millions" to swear allegiance to the King and his heirs, organisers say. The public pledge is one of several striking changes to the ancient ceremony revealed on Saturday.
  17. Really? quote " This is exclusively for people in the know". Says who. This is an open thread and ANYBODY can respond to it. quote "Because I think the British Monarchy is a waist of time and taxpayer funds." I think exactly the opposite as do many other posters, and sadly for "your" exclusive post, I can and I will respond as I see fit.
  18. Try doing an internet search outside of Thailand.
  19. Really? Do you have a link to a poll or something for that? https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2022/2022-population-estimates.html#:~:text=DEC.,components of change released today. Note: Updated on 12/22/22 at 2:15pm EST. Changes are in bold. DEC. 22, 2022 – After a historically low rate of change between 2020 and 2021, the U.S. resident population increased by 0.4%, or 1,256,003, to 333,287,557 in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2022 national and state population estimates and components of change released today. Would you like to even guess how many of the 333,287,557 US population you would think are the most that agree with you thoughts? bear in mind it would need to be more than 170 million people.
  20. Firstly the Royal Family DO work and damned hard for a living. Secondly, the Civil list which pays them only pays out about 15% of the income it gets to the Royal Family, so in reality they cost nothing and the government makes a profit from them. Thirdly they are a great tourist attraction, and bring even more money into the country. So if you can't be bothered, your words, why are you even commenting on the topic?
  21. He most probably does know more about politics in Thailand than I do, but that doesn't make him that smart if that is all he know and does. I know far more about building mobile phone sites worldwide than he does but that doesn't make me smarter than him. He has one voice and one vote where I have none but if you asked the average Thai voter who he is and what he does, in well over 90% of the answers will just get you a blank look.
  22. What does a "political scientist" actually do for a living that makes him think that he knows more than anybody else? I have just looked political scientist up in Wikipedia which has lots of big words but says very little, and most of that is meaningless.
