Thailand offers 11 billion baht subsidy for low-income electricity bills
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand does have a coal mining industry. https://www.worldometers.info/coal/thailand-coal/ Thailand Coal Summary Table Tons Global Rank Coal Reserves 1,171,755,530 32nd in the world Coal Production 18,715,682 23rd in the world Coal Consumption 42,674,986 20th in the world Yearly Deficit -23,959,304 Coal Imports 23,999,601 Coal Exports 39,472 More information in the link. There is already a 36% surplus of electricity generating capacity so why would Thailand NEED to spend billions of baht to increase that capability. Which country would recycle the spent fuel rods, and what would be the cost to clear them from the site, transport them to a country for reprocessing, have them reprocessed, and what to do with the rods then? ALL these costs add up to the price of the electricity produced, so, sorry the electricity is not the cheapest and almost free. But you would have known that if you had done any research in the beginning. Just a thought for you. Try going anywhere in Thailand, selecting a spot and telling the local Thais that you ARE going to build a 2,000 MW nuclear power station on that very spot. The response will be interesting. You could try telling them that their electricity bill will be less in 20 or 30 years time, after all the loans are repaid. That may help but I doubt it. -

IMHO the biggest polarising family in Thailand is the military. -

The best verification for you would be to go to the airport, stand next to a security person, and shout the words very loudly.

The m/c owners do have a lot of assets in the number of m/c that they own. However as usual in Thailand, the law may say one thing but enforcing the laws rely on the police, who are in some cases also the owners of the m/c rental places. As I have said several times before, nobody forces any tourist to rent a m/c. If a tourist rents he takes his chances with the rental and his insurance company. If no tourist rents, the m/c hirers may go out of business or simply rent to Thais. Who else can be responsible for hiring the m/c if not the hirer?

Problem with issuing of Marriage Visa

Thank you. Whilst all IO should be the same, sadly they are not. Some stand out as excellent, and others stand out as dismal and there are quite a few threads on the good, the bad and the ugly ones. -

So you think that a nuclear power plant costs nothing to build, nothing to maintain, nothing to dispose of the spent fuel rods? That also does not include the cost of decommissioning the plant at the end of its working life. Who will pay the upfront costs, including the loans required and at what interest rates? https://www.synapse-energy.com/sites/default/files/SynapsePaper.2008-07.0.Nuclear-Plant-Construction-Costs.A0022_0.pdf Projected Nuclear Power Plant Construction Costs Are Soaring The construction cost estimates for new nuclear power plants are very uncertain and have increased significantly in recent years. Companies that are planning new nuclear units are currently indicating that the total costs (including escalation and financing costs) will be in the range of $5,500/kW to $8,100/kW or between $6 billion and $9 billion for each 1,100 MW plant. These new cost estimates are far higher than the industry had previously predicted. For example, as recently as the years 2000-2002, the industry and Department of Energy were talking about overnight costs of $1,200/kW to $1,500/kW for new nuclear units.1 This range of estimated overnight costs suggested total plant costs of between $2 and $4 billion per new nuclear unit. The MIT Future of Nuclear Study in 2003, increased the estimated prices of new nuclear plants to $2,000/kW, not including financing costs. -

Which office is this? All IO are not the same. The IO at the Kamphaeng Phet office always calls my wife when I need to go back for the stamp. -
Firstly, it is not a loan it is a hire. Secondly, nobody is forced to rent a bike/scooter. Thirdly, the onus is on the renter to make sure that he is insured and has a proper helmet. Fourthly, it is the hirers responsibility to make sure that he adheres to the t&c of his insurance policy, not the owner of the bike. if he takes a chance that nothing will happen to him, and he is lucky, then all well and good. If something bad happens to him, then it is his problem for knowingly taking that chance,

Oh yes we (I) do. He went out with a loaded weapon and deliberately killed 3 people, one a 2 year old child. IF he is executed he will know why. If nobody else learns from the lesson, execute them also. Never mind their human rights, they abandoned them when they carried a loaded gun. What about the victims human rights to live a normal life, especially the 2 year old?

Is slippery bathroom tile mandated by law?
billd766 replied to DudleySquat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I am 78 and in both shower rooms the tiles ARE non slip. Also I can hold on to either the sink or a 200 litre blue plastic water barrel (it weighs about 200 kg when full) to keep my balance. I also walk slowly heel first and then toe before I put any weight on my leg for walking. -

Good for you. Being a farang, I cannot vote in Thailand and having been out of the UK over 15 years I cannot vote there either. There was a rumour last year that the vote would be restored, but it hasn't happened yet. -

And was there an outcry when Prayuth and his cronies granted themselves an an amnesty for ALL past, present and future crimes? IMHO there will probably not be another coup this time. Prayuth's lot are out of favour and will most probably be unable to muster enough officers and troops. The biggest problem is what will the King's Guard do? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Guard_(Thailand) King's Guard units The Royal Guards are today composed of 87 formations (formerly 94 battalions or equivalents), mostly found in the Royal Thai Army. Royal Security Command The Royal Security Command is in charge of two Infantry regiments. There are an awful lot of them. More information is in the link. -
