Just my opinion. I'm allowed to have it. It is shared by many others, including Maine Democrats like representative Jared Golden, who criticized the ruling: “I voted to impeach Donald Trump for his role in the January 6th Insurrection. I do not believe he should be re-elected as President of the United States,” Golden wrote. “However, we are a nation of laws, therefore until he is actually found guilty of the crime of insurrection, he should be allowed on the ballot.”

That is also my stance. There are more in here:

She is not a qualified lawyer. Neither am I but my qualifications are better, if you must know.

    .

Trump is not a lawyer either, and he became president. He was and still is a serial liar.

Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York and a lawyer. Admittedly not a very good one, or he would not have been stiffed by Trump for his fee and cast aside.

Does it say anywhere that to be a senator or a secretary of State for a state that you have to be a lawyer.

Some of the richest and most influential in the USA have never been lawyers either.

In the midst of swirling news and complex updates about tax regulations in Thailand, we recognize the importance of clarity and simplicity. That’s why PKF Nuobello, a global accounting firm, has carefully distilled the latest tax updates raised in Paw 161/2566, Paw 162/2566, and Royal Decree 743 (RD 743) into straightforward, bite-sized points.

    1. The 180-Day Rule: Tax Residency in Thailand:
Stay Duration Matters: If you’re in Thailand for more than 180 days in a calendar year, you’re a tax resident. Less than 180 days? You’re not considered a tax resident for that year.

    2. Offshore Income & Taxation: Understanding Paw 161/2566.
Income Remitted to Thailand: As a tax resident, given the top marginal rate of income tax in Thailand is 35%, the implications are such that offshore income remitted to Thailand will likely be taxed at 35%.

    3. Earnings vs. Savings
Currently, there’s no distinction between these for tax purposes.

    4. Recent Update on 20 November 2023 – good news !!
On 20 November 2023, the Revenue Department issued the Department Instrument No. Paw 162/2566 to further clarify that the foreign-sourced income to be subject to tax will not include the foreign-sourced income deriving before 2024 by any individual tax resident.

For other ways to manage your tax position, PKF Nuobello suggests mitigating the tax burden of Paw 161/2566 for foreign-sourced income derived after 1 January 2024 as follows:

Gifts: Certain gifts are exempt from personal income tax under the Thailand Revenue Code. There are specific rules and amounts whereby gifts are not subject to personal income tax For example gifts received by ascendants and descendants, under religious, educational, or public benefit purposes or a moral obligation or gift made in a ceremony or on occasion in accordance with tradition or established customs.

    Long-Term Residents Visa Benefits:
Section 5 of RD 743 offers tax exemptions on certain offshore incomes (encompassing employment, business, and property income from abroad) received in a previous year and subsequently brought into Thailand, without a time limit on income derivation. These exemptions apply to the following categories of LTRs:
    – Wealthy Pensioners;
    – Wealthy global citizens; and
    – Professionals working from Thailand.

    Invest in Thai Companies:
Tax residents can make investments in cash-generating Thai companies that provide a steady flow of income in Thailand. The investment into the company will not be subject to tax but the annual earnings will be subject to Thai personal income tax when distributed to the Tax Resident. Depending upon a shareholder’s structure, other laws and regulations should be taken into account.

    Foreign Credit Card Payments:
If the transaction is paid by a foreign credit card (from a non-Thai bank account), the settlement made outside should not be deemed a fund remittance into the country by Thai Tax Residents.

Need to personalize your tax strategy?
We know, tax talk can be as thrilling as watching paint dry. However managing your tax affairs is crucial, and who better to make it interesting than us? Remember, navigating tax laws doesn’t have to be a solo journey.

It looks as though PKF Nuobello, carefully distilled the latest tax updates and completely and, perhaps conveniently, omitted to mention that if you are to pay income tax in Thailand, you are also allowed to claim allowances against that income. Information and perhaps disinformation as well can be found on several existing threads, which my be more accurate than this particular thread.

So I expect you have all seen the problems with all the Ev cars trying to charge there EV to get home for NY.

Reminds me of when we forgot our mobile phone chargers on a recent trip away and all were fighting to charge from 1 cable.

Anyway like I always said the EVs are fine if you just want to drive a few km around town but finally they have a solution.

Even if you're right, i would expect the PM, the leader of the of a poor nation to perhaps, just perhaps, share a little, very little

of his enormous wealth with those who are much, much poorer, less fortunate than him, but that is out of the question right?...

In your opinion who should he share it with?

And if he gave ALL of it away and every one of the 65,000,000 Thais got an equal share, he would be broke and every Thai would be 18 baht and 46 satang better off.

This, in my opinion, is the most relevant line.

Why don't you all f-fade away

Talking about the current generation of "leadership".

Young people of all generations, mine was the 1960s, want change.

The problem is that most of them have different ideas about what changes they want, and sadly there are very few among them who know how to make the changes.

It's no way a long term solution in any case. They need to be looking at a proper national savings and loans fund IMHO.

Thank you for triggering a memory.

I can remember in the 1950s back in the UK that there was a small savings scheme called The National Savings Movement

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Savings_Movement

Children at school could save small sums of money and cash the stamps in later. They also paid a small interest as well.

There also used to be the POSB which was the Post Office Savings Bank but it looks as though that has gone seriously (and expensively) up market now in the UK.

    https://www.gocompare.com/savings/post-office/

Either or both of those would be great in Thailand, depending on the minimum deposit. It was possible to make regular deposits from your salary direct to your POSB account. They could be issued through the schools and teach children (and adults) a form of money management.

Also you could only withdraw to the amount you had saved and never overdraw. Nor could it be used for a loan.

    Is Stroh rum still available?

Of course when we went on ski holidays to Austria in the 1970s, at least one bottle always had to come home with us.

My mate used to bring it over from Germany on his annual trip with his Thai wife but he missed it during the Covid years and brought me some sharp German mustard this year.

    Sorry.

To me it is like drinking rum and raisin ice cream.

Let me be the first to congratulate you .

    Thank you.

I actually quit about 3 1/2 years ago when I realised that I was drinking or or 4 bottles of Hong Thong a week, and that I could easily drink a 750 ml bottle of Hong Thong in a night with ice and soda,

At 79 I now take only one drink per year on New Years Eve to celebrate another year of life.

I found it reasonably easy to stop drinking as I simply cut out alcohol, though many people find it very hard to do so, and they have my deepest sympathy. Fortunately my wife and son supported me all the way.

Other than on the northern border, no one is attacking israel directly, and the US has managed to convince many other nations to protect israeli linked shipping in the Red Sea.

If it expands to 7 countries ( where did that come from anyway ) that's on israel.

BTW, this isn't America's war, so America doesn't need to get involved directly.

IMO if they do, it will be playing directly into Iranian hands, which IMO wants nothing less than a war against the crusader infidels to unite the people of the Middle East against America and it's allies.

quote "If it expands to 7 countries ( where did that come from anyway ) that's on Israel."

That came from the Guardian report which was the first post on page 1 of this thread.
