  1. Not one of us went into our relationship expecting it to end. All of our tilacs were wonderful, till they were not. There are certain red flags on any farang Thai relationship that are only learned by either living through the situation the hard way, or by listening to the advice of others that have been there. My Thai wife was indeed a wonderful woman, till she wasn't, and I had the benefit of decades of experience in Thailand, yet still I ended up with divorce papers. Of course there are exceptions, but do you feel lucky? With a divorce rate in the west of about 50%, and that's without the cultural difference, the dice are already loaded, and not in our (men's ) favour. I'm not saying to not go through with it, but to think it through, and if you still want to do it, to protect your assets.
  2. They are not "partners" when it comes to land ownership- they are the owners. Just because some foreigners get away with breaking the law does not mean you will be able to.
  3. It is not and never will be "your" land. If it all goes wrong are you able to walk away with nothing for it? Are you able to get a work permit to run an Airbnb?
  4. It's nothing to do with them per se. It's that your relationship will NEVER be about you and her, It will ALWAYS be about them. Everything you do or don't do will be dictated by their needs, not yours. If you are happy to always be second ( actually third as there are two of them ) go for it. I am talking from actual experience, not some theory.
  5. Probably because any "smart" person isn't going to be stupid enough to put themselves up there given the expected media attacks on them and their family and friends.
  6. LOL. Seems to me the situation has been caused by Biden when he diverted the weapons to israel. It's going to be very embarrassing for Biden if Ukraine has to negotiate from a position of weakness, after so much effort and treasure was wasted there. As for congress, they have apparently realised that Ukraine is more likely to lose than win, and are reluctant to throw good money after bad.
  7. Those Roman's knew a few things about war, to be sure. It was only when they decided to contract it out to mercenaries that the end came.
  8. IMO if Americans put as much effort into preventing pregnancy as they do into abortion, likely there would be little need for abortions at all.
  9. You must be able to overlook all of Biden's myriad bad points if you think he's a good choice for POTUS. What's insane is that the choice for leader of the free world is likely to be between two old men that should be relaxing in a comfy chair as retirees. Neither would be contending in a sane political system, IMO.
  10. It'll be better without the opposition present. He could have just a tramp with a flea bitten dog and I'd be cheering him from afar.
  11. I know the saying, but I don't get the point of using it in that context. IMO a vote for anyone not Biden is a vote for sanity.
  12. I just love that description of Joe. I hope I'm still around to see him boycott Trump's inauguration.
  13. Trump wins, Haley loses, Good result. Let's hope DeSantis gets back in the race. https://www.afr.com/world/north-america/haley-vows-to-stay-in-gop-race-even-if-she-loses-new-hampshire-20240124-p5eznp Concord, New Hampshire | Donald Trump beat outperforming rival Nikki Haley in a tightly run New Hampshire primary election, making the former president the first Republican to clean-sweep the first two state competitions since 1976.
  14. So there is a solution, but Israel won't accept it, and this being the case this conflict will go on and Israel will reap what they have sown.
  15. My question would be, "why should the Palestinians live next to a race of people who are intent on stealing all their land"? And besides this, if the war, such as it is, will cease, it will just be back to israeli oppression, collective punishment, and continuing land theft. Seems like a simple solution, so why won't Hamas accept it? The answer could well be in the fact that they don't trust the israelis to uphold their side of any agreement.
  16. I specifically DIDN'T say "anti israeli" protests, but seems even supporting Palestinians is now anti semitic according to some on here. BTW, IMO the world's oldest hatred predates Judaism by many thousands of years- it is hatred ( fear ) of the other that is not of the tribe.
  17. It is a crime against humanity when it's collective punishment. One suspects the word being looked for is "karma". You apparently would like anyone that doesn't support israel to go away. Not going to happen. Around the world Palestinian supporter numbers are growing every day, massive demonstrations calling for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, israel is slowly going broke with the cost of the conflict and it hasn't even kicked off properly in the north or the West Bank yet. https://www.timesofisrael.com/war-is-costing-economy-some-600m-a-week-due-to-work-absence-bank-of-israel/ The absence of thousands of workers from their jobs due to the ongoing war with the Hamas terror group has been costing the Israeli economy an estimated NIS 2.3 billion ($600 million) a week, or about 6 percent of the weekly GDP, according to a research report released by the Bank of Israel on Thursday.
  18. IMO Hamas will be foolish to hand the hostages over without something more solid than a "path" to Palestinian statehood. The US has been playing that game for decades with no result for the Palestinians worth a damn. Lots and lots of talking and nothing to show for it.
  19. IMO every Hamas fighter knew at the start it was a fight to win or die. They know what happens to even innocent Palestinians arrested by the israelis, so they know it would be 100 times worse for them and IMO no desire to be captured alive. Given that even the Euros have jumped on the two state solution bandwagon and Biden has stated no israeli occupation of Gaza after, it looks like Hamas might even have won in the end, though at a cost of thousands of dead and wounded Palestinians. Expect netanyahu to resist the two state solution till he is finally ejected from politics, which IMO will be at the next election. No wonder he is wanting to continue the conflict till next year.
  20. If the federal border patrol didn't cut the razor wire to let them through there would be less to catch. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/jan/22/supreme-court-remove-texas-razor-wire-mexico-border-biden The Biden administration is allowed to cut the razor wire deployed by Texas at the border with Mexico, the US supreme court ruled on Monday.
  21. I hope someone asks her why she never managed to do anything about the southern border, and if she failed there, why she feels she can do better on abortion. Anyway, what is her stance on it- free abortions for everyone perhaps? I think there are too many people on the planet, so I'm all for free abortions on demand, no questions asked, but I'd prefer free condoms or Depo injections instead. I really don't get the American obsession with abortion. NZ had an election last year and I doubt the subject even came up.
  22. No idea of the point you are trying to make. I'd rather have DeSantis than Trump, but if DeSantis is out for good I'll take Trump over Biden. If they resurrected Bernie I'd prefer him as he apparently wants to give Wall St a good kicking.
  23. Agree 100%. Kids are a pain when traveling. However, the OP may want to support some other man's children for their entire life ( some posters apparently do ), and not have any time to relax with the beloved ( including rumpty in unusual places ). It's not like it's difficult to acquire a small version of oneself later in life if that is desired, after having done the childless thing for a few years.
  24. Exactly my thinking. If I get together with a woman I want it to be about us, not a child, and if they love the child/ren it's always about the child/ren.
  25. Not necessarily. She might be the one in a million genuine case, though I turned down a genuinely lovely woman that I really liked only because she came with a child. Been there done that and never ever ever ever again.
