Soi Bukow one-way? Nope it will never work......
thaibeachlovers replied to redwood1's topic in Pattaya
Don't ban baht buses, ban private cars. I'd like to have seen private cars banned entirely from 3rd Road to the Beach and North to South Roads. Anyone driving a private car gets it confiscated and sold. That'll stop the congestion smartish. People can either ride a m'bike or take a baht bus. -
Were they tough working years?

I think I'd have gone crazy working in an office, so kudos to those that can. My father wanted me to be a banker, so thank the deity I didn't do what he wanted. I was always puzzled about why people paid to go to a gym, till I realised they are people that work in an office and get no exercise at work. Every job I ever had had exercise as part of the job. -

Sorry if I was confusing. I was not a nurse in the military. That came after. I did go to Antarctica while in the military, but not as a military person. They liked us as the military paid our wages so they didn't have to. We had a retired colonel in charge for the summer, who was completely unable to control the mainly independent mountaineer types that liked to go there back then. Being used to issuing orders that were obeyed without question, he visibly deteriorated mentally in the face of such "rebellious" staff till the day he was able to slink away without so much as a goodbye to the base staff. He was actually a good guy, as I used to visit him after, but putting military officers in charge of the base was not a good idea. It was definitely the best year in my adult life, as I was able to basically do my own thing and ignore the <deleted> that was in charge over winter. Sadly, <deleted>s are everywhere, and Antarctica has it's share of incompetent managers. I think the biggest buzz was climbing a nearby hill to watch the sun rise over the horizon for the first time in 8 weeks, but I enjoyed ever day there. Many didn't, but they had wives/ girlfriends back home and we had no women on base at all. Luckily I didn't have a girlfriend at that time so I could just enjoy being there away from all the BS of the "civilized" world. -

Luxury! That had nothing on the public toilets in Saudi. -

On a private bus trip between Phuket and Bkk many years ago we stopped at a restaurant for a toilet break, and were directed to a ditch outside. I never went private bus again, so had the luxury of on board toilets on the government buses. -

LOL. How many toilets on coaches, trains and planes allow for more than one person at the same time? Not including those attempting to join the Mile High club. he wasn't talking about such. -

Many decades ago I started nurse training and was the only male on the initial classroom course at the school of nursing. As males were unknown on nursing courses back then, there was no male toilet, so I had to use the female one and it was quite educational as I used it at the same time as the females. -
Bit like me going to KSR once a trip just to say I'd been there. It looked like bagpacker hell to me. After Patpong became a horrid night market I only went there once a trip to remind myself why I didn't go there anymore.

If like me he probably didn't include that side of his Thai adventures in his diary for others to read. BTW BJs were a rare occurrence in my limited experience in the first years of my adventures in LOS. and the sex was very routine. The idea that BGs indulge in acrobatic sex was an urban myth. On my very first trip to LOS, a two week bus tour via Malaya from Singapore in the 70s, it was a lesson in how not to have a holiday in LOS, as I doubt there was a single thing I got right. I did get to go to an American GI bar with curtained shagging booths and live sex in a box with 2 very bored Thais. Not a happy memory. I discovered one of the huge soapies in Bkk but went there on New year's eve when the "masseuse" was in a rush so she could go to the staff party, so was just disappointing. Another attempt at a "massage" was when I paid for one hour and she only got as far as my knees before the time was up. I didn't have enough on me to stay longer. I didn't even get a flash as she remained fully clothed throughout. I used to wonder what would have happened had I had more money, for years after, as she was very beautiful. On that trip I had my one and only experience of a pimp. A vile disgusting man. Thankfully I never experienced such again in LOS. When I started going to LOS more frequently, I still had to learn many lessons the hard way, but in the end I more or less got to the desired level of knowledge, and then I went and ruined it by getting married- the greatest mistake of all.

The post you quote was a response to the post I quoted. I don't believe in marriage ( only got married as she insisted and I was stupid to agree ) or lifetime relationships. I also never wanted kids so even less reason to get married. I think marriage is an illusion promoted by women, who are the main winners when they fail.

Were they tough working years?

I only "loved" the year I spent in Antarctica. I liked being in the military as it was mainly interesting and saw lots of the world, but the maniacs in charge spoiled it. Nursing was good at first, but the bullying by managers made it a trial, so for most of my time I just did it for the money. Had I had a better option I'd have left in in a heartbeat. I must have done thousands of hours of unpaid overtime, as we had too much work to do in the paid time. It was a thankless job, but ( in Saudi and the UK ) the money was good and the holidays were ample, so I was able to do what I really wanted and spend as much time in Thailand as possible. -

I had no life when working in London, but I did it for the 5 weeks in Thailand every year. For the first year when I was working for an agency I worked 4 weeks straight ( every day ) and had one weekend off before going back for another 4 weeks straight. After that I became a permanent hospital staff so I could live in the accommodation and not spend 3 hours in a tube train. -

Where I live there is a traffic jam twice a day as hundreds of people do exactly that ( but obviously not in the USA ). They must be screaming as the price of petrol climbs inexorably to unheard of heights. In London I spent 3 hours every working day on a tube train to and from work. One does what one has to do to make money. -
LOL. Most western women have probably had multiple sexual relationships before they get married. Can their husband ever really trust them not to "stray" ( that's such a quaint word for cuckolding ). Most men on the planet would probably have as many sexual occurances as they could possibly manage before they get married. Can a wife trust a man who has been with stacks of other women?

Well, it's progress if you accept it's going to be a long war if the US and EU keep pouring the weapons in. I seem to remember some posters claiming the valiant Ukrainians would soon be at the gates of Moscow, a couple of years ago. Their much vaunted offensive, with those invincible Leopard tanks that were supposed to have routed the Russians doesn't seem to have achieved much, and winter is here.
-
Because you are trying to make me a Russian supporter, when I am not. I am trying to counter the propaganda with a recognition that Russia can not be defeated as it has the ultimate deterrent, and fighting them only results in death and destruction. When faced with ultimate defeat is it better to die fighting an unwinnable war or give up some territory. The Thai kings that gave up land to France and Britain to avoid invasion certainly thought so.

Biden says he will not let Hamas and Putin win !
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
I'd like to see netanyahu, the israeli war cabinet, Biden, Sunak, Macron and all the western leaders that support israel's war on Palestine in hand to hand combat with the leaders of Hamas. If the israeli side wins the Gazans accept life under occupation, and if the Gazans win the israelis give the West Bank and East Jerusalem back to the Palestinians and allow Gaza free access to the outside world. -
I don't see much "modern civilization" in caging over 2 million people, oppressing them for 30 years, and when they rebel against their oppressors denying water, food, fuel and medical supplies while bombing them to bits. That, IMO, is what they used to do in the middle ages and before. A thousand years of civilization, and we haven't advanced much at all, except in being able to kill more people with better weapons.
