  1. No idea what that means, and bears no relationship to what I posted.
  2. Define "sexpat". Most if not all expats in Thailand like sex. Are they all wrong for wanting to do something that is completely normal, but often unavailable in home country? Next.
  3. https://www.voanews.com/a/team-set-to-start-siphoning-oil-out-of-rusting-tanker-moored-off-yemen-un-says-/7193242.html CAIRO — An international team is set to begin siphoning oil out of the hull of a decrepit tanker moored off the coast of war-torn Yemen this week, a U.N. official said Sunday. It will mark the first concrete step in an operation years in the making aimed at preventing a massive oil spill in the Red Sea.
  4. Agree. Wonder how long it would be before the poor folk consigned to live in the basement doing menial tasks rebel against the rich living on the sides with a seaview balcony?
  5. I'm going to be dead soon enough. Never had children to mourn me so it's not my problem what happens after I'm gone.
  6. I remember the MOVIE, but not the name of it. Such as referenced in the OP isn't new at all. There was a scheme many years ago that was thankfully dropped.
  7. I've believed for many years that the future of humanity is on floating cities, eating cultivated insects, fish and seaweed. Glad I'm not going to be around then.
  8. Agree. Amazing hypocrisy flying hundreds of people to climate conferences when it could all be done with VDO conferencing.
  9. Planet used to be way hotter. The only problem will be for those that think nothing should change. Personally I'd be happy if temperatures were warmer where I live. Being cold sucks.
  10. Agree 100% on 1,2 and 3, except I don't think anything we try to do will make the slightest bit of difference when humanity is reproducing at such a great rate. IMO if the population had stabilised at 3 billion we wouldn't be facing any crisis now.
  11. You Would have them all move? or would it be "common sense" to combat global warming? Given the end of life as we knew it has already arrived, do you think it's possible to alter climate now? I don't. IMO it's just going to get worse, no matter how many taxes we pay to "do something", which is currently unknown, as I haven't seen anything that is affordable, effective and acceptable.
  12. I never said we wouldn't be able to build a house in a risky area. I just said it probably wouldn't be possible to get insurance. I'd live by a beach if I could.
  13. I expect that shortly ( in a few years ) insurance will be unobtainable for housing built on river banks, flood plains, coastal areas or fire zones. I'm only surprised it's still available.
  14. The problem is that after the ice is gone there will be no more water. IMO it's all part of Gaia's plan to solve the humanity problem.
  15. I refuse to do phone banking, and hope to be dead before they eliminate real money. I have no desire whatsoever to live in a world where the banks and the government control the people like they apparently do in China.
  16. If referring to switch on wall, not so. I had occasion to check wiring in my wife's house where the wires were connected wrongly, so the wire to the light fitting was live when the switch was off. Only switch that counts is the mains switch.
  17. Far as I know, as long as no part of the body was earthed one wouldn't get a shock. As I understand it, the heart is affected when such as a hand touches a live wire and the other hand or the feet are earthed, so the current passes through the heart on the way to earth. I have no intention of seeing if it's true, but I have on occasion had a bit of a tingle when accidentally touching something I should not have.
  18. I love my screwdriver with a light that checks for live wires.
  19. Unless wearing rubber gloves not a 100% solution. Best way is to turn the power off at the mains first. I will always remember my Thai family disagreeing with me on the correct way to wire up an outside light, and they hired a village "electrician" while I was away to do what they wanted. Result was 10 meters of melted cable, melted switch, and a melted light fitting. I laughed like a drain when I returned and saw that.
  20. Sounds like they are doing what capitalists always do. Do we expect them to promote an alternative? BTW, if electricity is produced by burning fossil fuel, where is the benefit?
  21. IMO the lower demographic of population has always been exploited by the rich. See the sheeple lining up to buy the latest ***** brand phone at a vastly inflated price, when the phone they already have will still do the job for years to come. My mobile phone is over 20 years old.
  22. If the batteries last longer than the cars, the cars must be <deleted>. With modern rust proofing methods a car should last decades. I was still driving a 30 year old car when I decided I needed a larger car. I still see same cars of the same age driving around.
  23. Get up in the roof space on a sunny day and if there is a crack it'll probably show up.
