  1. What is true love? Far as I'm concerned it's a fairy tale promoted by Mills and Boon books and sellers of diamond rings. IMO there is lust, and there is friendship, and many get married while in lust, but were never friends and that's why the relationship doesn't last, IMO. Prince Charles had it nailed when he said "what is love anyway?"
  2. You post as though I don't know anything about the subject of personal realities etc. I learned all that over 40 years ago, and am not convinced that it's true, and the "cure" that you discuss doesn't work on me. It's like the placebo effect- for it to work one has to believe it does, and I don't. Soooo, I'll stick to enjoying what I can ( the sunsets have been spectacular recently ), surviving the bad stuff, and hoping I'm not around too much longer. I'm well past sell by date and I'm happy to set out on the last great adventure. No one that truly believes can fear death, as it's just a curtain between this existence and the other side. I only hope that it doesn't hurt too much when I do pass over the great divide.
  3. Do you have anything to post regarding the topic, or do you just come on threads to post sarcastic comments about other people? Can't say I've noticed anyone on here that doesn't like being in LOS, but perhaps I missed that post.
  4. IMO add climate change and multiple genders to that list.
  5. Hmmmmm. Loads of people go through life just existing. I know one guy, not even that old that just sits outside smoking, and sometimes having a chat with his friends. However, if that makes him content, who am I to say he should be doing something with his life to make it meaningful?
  6. I have plenty in my life that is good, eg 26 years nursing the sick and crippled, but it'd be easier to love life if it hadn't kicked me in the butt so many times. It's entirely possible that my lesson in this existence is to learn to love despite being kicked in the butt so many times, but if that is so, I guess I failed. Perhaps the next time around will be different.
  7. While it's all very well to discuss things like chosen realities from the comfort of our chairs, many of us are actually real victims of all sorts of things. If I chose my life, then I also chose to get cancer and be mutilated to remove it, causing a drastic downturn in my enjoyment of life. I have a problem believing that I hate myself so much I wished to have that happen. If I believe that, then I can also believe that I'm in the Matrix.
  8. I'm undecided about that, as if I create my own reality I must despise, hate and loath myself to create such a horrible reality.
  9. It's not an exclusive thread where you get to only communicate with one poster. That is what the PM function is for. Do you have a reply to my question?
  10. I believed you till you posted that. Is she a white skinned hi so Chinese with a law degree? 555555555555555555555555555
  11. In London I knew 2 Drs that were smashed while riding motorbikes. Neither was their fault and one wore all the protective gear. I rode m'bikes since I was 18. In Thailand I rode wearing helmet, gloves, t shirt, shorts and flip flops. My accident was caused by another motorcyclist driving into me when I was almost stationary, because he wasn't looking where he was going. I was lucky in that I got away with a broken bone in my hand and scraped legs. Could have been a lot worse. I was insured for riding a m'bike. I rode in LOS knowing the potential for tragedy, but I believed that if I was going to have an accident there was nothing I could do to avoid it ( fate ), and it's just too hot to wear proper gear, which in the case of the Dr didn't save him anyway. IMO the only way to be safe on a m'bike is to not be on a m'bike.
  12. I read up a bit about that, and it seems that while one hates the other, the other just didn't care much about minor cast members, so it's possible the hate is one sided.
  13. Not all governments are beneficial, but neither are they irrelevant to our lives. Sadly, it's not possible to be a hermit these days as the lackies would be citing regulations as to why I can't live in a cave. Perhaps they were not much better when they included religion, but at least they had some guiding principles to abide by ( as when the British government outlawed slavery ). Since they abandoned religion, they apparently have no ethos other than self interest.
  14. I've understood all that since the '70s. Unfortunately, being positive doesn't last long when coming up against the many horrible people that had and have power over my life. I'm still trying to work out if horrible people are the norm, or if I'm just unlucky. I doubt I'll find the answer any time soon.
  15. Surely you can't be claiming that science has the tools to know anything about faith?
  16. I have met very few people that are not motivated by self interest. I used to be excited by life, hopeful and eager, but then I went nursing and it was the worst decision of my life. Anyone that thinks nurses are "angels" is deluded by the myth. While many ( but not all ) of those that are actual real nurses working with patients are wonderful people, many ( but not all ) managers are horrible bullies. By the time I realised I'd gone down the wrong path it was too late to change for reasons that I'm not going to discuss. Anyway, goodbye to excited by life, hope and eagerness, and hello to cynicism, and distrust of human sincerity or integrity. No doubt you will accuse me of making excuses, but that's only your opinion and you don't know everything about me or my past to judge me.
  17. Never get married or have a long term live in G F. Don't drink to get drunk. Save as much as possible and buy property. Never buy a computer and stay away from forums. Read books instead. If I think about going nursing get someone to slap me till the idea goes away. Working in the Australian mines would have made me wealthy, but I was stupid and chose the wrong path.
  18. I don't see many big manly horse faced women that are not also fat where I live, but most of the adult women are overweight whatever they look like. It's rare to see a slim feminine woman. Perhaps most of them live in the city where they have a better chance of snagging a rich man.
  19. I have to disagree. Men don't normally take the pill and men have also got larger and fatter. Ladyboys are taller than Thai women, but they are generally still slim. I've been discussing fat people.
  20. A badge I shall wear with honour. More people should be cynical and if that were so, politicians might not be able to fool so many of us so so easily. However, I'm not ignorant, and you have no way of making that judgement of me as you know nothing about me beyond the few words I write on this forum. If I really was ignorant, I'd probably take drugs to blot out reality and do antisocial things like so many do nowadays. I wasn't born cynical- I came into the world with no thoughts other than the desire to feed, but everything that has happened to me in the years since has made me a cynic. I guess becoming cynical has been as a defense against the BS and horrible people that assail me every day in this existence.
  21. You are correct, but does God have emotions such as forgiveness? BTW, was the prodigal son given more than a second chance? I tend to the belief that humanity has had more than a second chance.
  22. Thanks for keeping it short. Perhaps you are not old yet and don't understand that old minds do not work as well as young ones. You can call it belief, but I call it old age. In fact, I'm so old and decrepit that one of these days I'll be finding out for myself what is on the other side of the great divide. BTW less is more is a certain truth, as one can certify with women and clothing. The LESS clothing they wear generally tends to elicit MORE prurient interest than a complete absence of clothing.
  23. Have you considered that God doesn't care if we "find" God or not? We are an insignificant species on an insignificant planet in an insignificant solar system in an insignificant galaxy, which is eventually going to join all those species that we exterminated on this planet. So, looking at the universe as a whole, with uncountable trillions of stars, planets and lifeforms, my question is "why should God care about us?"
  24. Thanks for that. Perhaps I should preface everything I write with "western". That any child today should be unwanted, unloved and deprived of education is an indictment of humanity, and just one of the reasons I believe humanity is doomed by our own hand. Looking at the world I live in I wonder if we don't deserve to become extinct for being such a wicked species. We have the knowledge and the means to have Utopia on Earth, but we'd rather spend the money on better ways to kill each other. If I believed that God had human emotions ( as many seem to believe- but I don't ) I'd think that "he'd" have washed his hands of us and left us to our demise.
  25. You must be a lot younger than I. When I was "dating" nice girls didn't till they had a ring, and "bad" girls ended up pregnant and having to get married. Having an illegitimate child was a great shame, not a ticket to welfare payments. I had a girlfriend of many months and didn't get past kissing, which I assumed was normal.
