Yes this is exactly the principle of subsidiarity - The EU does not have competence over pensions, the UK government does.
So would you prefer to extend the EU's sphere of influence if it meant you got a larger, more European type pension ?
Well thats a good idea, lets stick another tier of government on top
of our tiers. Who do think is going to pay for that lot?
In the case of governments, less is more.

Its farmer cart after transAm changed alternator... :))
It has certainly been alternated. But given the choice of a farm
wagon and one of those modern boxes of tricks you call a car,
I'd go for the good old faithful farm wagon..and thats what I
did 30 years ago. Not even dinged a bumper bar.

But don't you agree that EU countries generally have much better pensions (leave the eastern Ines out of this, I'm talking about our peers). I just don't trust the Cons, particularly, to take care of our interests
I agree, EU seem to do better, in others ways too, yet we have been
EU members for ages. As a UK pensioner, the EU has done nothing
for me. The Cons and all govs. are downright evil frauds.

Pulling this all together, our governments have not really cared about us since the 60s. Pensions have indeed grown but are much smaller than in other western countries. Inequality has got out of hand. I for one would feel much secure under the benign influence of the EU rather than the nasty party. The UK is great for the wealthy but miserable for most. Brexit will make it worse. The poor sops just don't see it ?
We have been in the EU for ages, we have yet to see any 'benign influence' on our pensions ..recommending more of the same is promoting false hope.
I would recommend members of the gov. should have the same basic state pension as they give us...Watch our pensions suddenly rise.

The UK has the lowest state pensions in the Western world. Those who can afford it pay into a private pension, those people give a damn about themselves by earning a high salary, the pensioners who created the wealth are the richest pensioners the country has ever seen. The other pensioners didn't earn enough money to give a damn about themselves so we don't give a damn about them. This has nothing to do with WWII, we call it Thatcherism.
Its been going before Thatcher, even before 1381 Peasants Revolt
Its an English thing.

This article is truly interesting, it sets out the variables that will impact the Brexit bill:
- Changes in the exchange rate, because the final bill is payable in euros. The Treasury used a rate of 1.13 euros to the pound for its estimate
- Differences in Britain’s economic performance. The U.K. will pay as normal into the EU
- budget in 2019 and 2020, even as it officially departs the bloc. The value of those payments will vary according to how the U.K. economy performs in relation to the rest of the EU
- Economic performance will over the next two years will also affect Britain’s share of EU liabilities after 2020
- Estimates of future pension liabilities for EU officials are based on assumptions on mortality rates and future salary increases, all of which may turn out differently
- The EU can request up to five months of budget payments in the first three months of a calendar year, and Treasury assumptions are based on this happening in the first quarter of 2019, leading up to the scheduled Brexit day of March 29. If it doesn’t happen, that means extra payments of as much as 3 billion pounds will be made after Brexit, technically increasing the post-departure bill
- U.K. commitments to the European Development Fund are expected to cost 2.9 billion pounds after Brexit. But they’re not included in the total for the bill, because the fund is not established under EU treaties
It's worth noting that the UK Auditor is already suggesting the Brexit bill will exceed £39 bill.
Peanuts.

Just a word of caution, dont use Kasikorn Thai bank.
My wife was in that bank last week, she overheard
a farang arguing that he transferred 3m from abroad
and there was only 2m in the account. there are more
cases reported on facebook, I cannot confirm that as
I dont do facebook. I can however confirm that I have
noticed a shortfall on my smaller transfer.

I think you mean Luddite movement. I am part of that movement been driving over 50 years and have always got along without all the autonomous BS. I like to drive the car, not the car drive me.
Well spotted typo, thank you. I too, only drive old cars.
I remember a new car tested on Top Gear..cant remember
the car, but the instruction manual was in two thick
volumes. I believe Clarkson threw them outof the window
after reading the first page.

Ha, ha, no electronics. Guess it's back to a points ignition and an AM radio with tubes.
With the increasing use of electronics..soon it will be impossible
to drive..no steering wheel. Future generations will never know the
sound and feeling of the V8. Eventually robots will replace humans.
Join the Pattaya Ludite movement..

Its not the salaries, that is the tip of the iceberg. The UK government
couldn't make a profit out of a jumble sale. Mismanagement and
waste are the hallmarks of the 30% of the population employed in
some form of government.
When a working man earns 1 GBp, he will have appox.10p to call
his own at the end of the week.
The UK government has become an expensive monster.
Reality check.
