  1. Bunch of questions here!

Indeed you cannot get a WP on a non immigrant ED.

You can on a non immigrant O. To get an extension based on being married you and your wife need to have had a combined average income of 40,000 Baht or more over the last 6 months.

I have always been a bit confused on this point.

When I originally received my visa, it was a Non Im ED visa. I have extended for the past 4 years while in school.

I have seen it mentioned many times in this forum that I am not changing my visa, I am changing my reason for extension.

So in this situation can I get a work permit even though the original visa was for ED based on the fact that I am changing the reason for extension.

    -or-

Does the original visa need to be a Non Im O or do they only look at the reason for the latest extension?

Good point that murray...but you still have paranoia in your questions....forget your old visa..once you have a new extension of stay it will be based on marrige nothing from before matters they are not gonna be interested in previous visa's just the one that is current when they want to issue the WP

  2. Once you have the extension your company will be able to apply for a WP doesnt guarentee you will get it though,

It's not the extension which enables him to apply for a WP, it's the change of status from ED (education) to O (family reasons)!

if all else fails then you can get the company to give you there work papers etc and go to laos and get a non b..

Not sure if I get this one.

If he doesn't get his WP on his Non immigrant O, he'll more then likely will not be getting it on a non immigrant B either. The non immigrant B doesn't allow you to work without a WP!

On top of it, when going for a Non immigrant B, he'll lose his one year extension based on his marriage!

Monty ill take you word over mine any day of the week especially as you anwserd my questions in another thread but just to clarify my point

Once you have the extension your company will be able to apply for a WP doesnt guarentee you will get it though

It's not the extension which enables him to apply for a WP, it's the change of status from ED (education) to O (family reasons)!

The extension of stay is what he is going for so i was just saying that for his particular case..

and the point about laos was just incase they turn him down for his extension of stay he can always go to Laos and get a different visa to start the WP process

  3. Thank you lite beer much appreciated...just finally do they issue only 30 days in all cases?

    For marriage, yes,

Normally immigration officers will come and check out where you live so as to acertain you really are living together as man and wife.

Additionally they might want to talk with some neighbors etc...

This will be done during the first 30 day extension (under consideration actually), and when they find everything satisfactory, they will then issue the remaining 11 months.

Out in the provinces sometimes it takes two 30 day under consideration stamps, since the whole file will have to go back and forth to Bkk for final approval...

And thank you to you Monty...so as long as the missus isnt in 1 of very frequent cobs ill be cool..

  4. If you find it can you post back it would be of interest

Not to be stinker but as a predominently expat / farang forum, might be easier to look on a site like pantip.com where 99 percent of the user's are thai.

But then again, that seems logical so perhaps this being Bangkok, posting on here makes sense? :o

That is being a little bit of a stinker james yes, as i am english and have stummbled upon a post who is looking for place to get a new thai ID and so am i for my wife i thought it appropriate to post..no all amphurs allow just random thais to turn up for a new ID card some say you have to go the the nearest amphur to get a new ID card which in my MRS case is Chaing Mai

  5. I think your startin to panic..

Just one thing to note though ias that if you are applying for extension based on marrige you have to show a monthly family income of 40k+, do you meet those requirements??

Not panicing just trying to be pro-active. I want to ensure that everything is done in a manner that will allow the company to apply for the work permit.

Yes, I have the 40,000 min requirement. I have already secured the nesseary form from te US embassy. Yesterday she just took the amount and multiplied it by 33 and moved on without any comment.

Once you have the extension your company will be able to apply for a WP doesnt guarentee you will get it though, if all else fails then you can get the company to give you there work papers etc and go to laos and get a non b..

good luck and post the outcome(and how long you were there)

  6. I went down the one stop labour dept to look at changing from extension of stay based on work to extension of stay based on marrige and all they said was that the 'family' had to have a combined 40k+ to meet the requirements, that can and will be based soley on my earnings as the missus is having a baby in in 3 weeks and cannot work and they said that was fine.

Just out of interest has anybody ever done this from what i can gather i would be cancelling one at the one stop centre then going to immigration and changing to the other... can they turn you down?

They can if you don't meet the requirements.

You will need tax payment documentation plus a few other things.

They give you a 30 day stamp while they consider your application.

You go back in 30 days and get the remaining 11 months stamp.

Thank you lite beer much appreciated...just finally do they issue only 30 days in all cases?

  7. Here's what i recon

1.. Just a weird thai thing..unfortunately you just have to roll with it

2 No if you give her the form then you should get a extension there and then, then apply for WP

3 No as a extension of stay means you dont have to leave every 90 days

    4. Maybe, maybe not

    5. Dont know

If i was you i would just get all the necessary paperwork you need and take a nice book and a nice smile down to the immigration, try and take a thai lady with you who can then explain everything and brown nose for you, IMHO having a extension of stay is much better than either a NON-B or NON 0 in the fact that if you plan on staying here long time eventually (after 3 i think) you can apply for residencey but even if you are not then at a bare minimum it means you dont have to do visa runs every 90 days

  9. The theoretical top speed of Edge is indeed 473.6 kbps, but this would require 8 slots.

Every cell (antenna) has only a limited amount of slots available, slots also needed for voice calls. Allowing such fast speeds would eat up all available slots in no time, hence most operators limit Edge to 4 slots, allowing for speeds up to 238 kbps (30 kBps).

Both AIS and Dtac allow only 238 kbps.

I tend to get better speeds on AIS (20 kBps or more) then on Dtac (mostly around 12-15 kBps).

Although sometimes (but not a lot) it can be the other way around...

Your limewire problem comes from a different reason. Both AIS and Dtac will assign you a private IP address. This IP address is not the same as what is visible from the internet, meaning that your PC is not accessible from the internet. You are virtually hidden behind a router.

With a home ADSL connection you have the router in your own house, so you can set this device to forward all incoming traffic for a certain port to your PC.

Since you do not have access to DTAC's routers, this can not be done when using Edge.

Limewire, including most other P2P programs, will only give slow speeds when you are invisible on the net. (basically because being invisible means you are not sharing any of your ontent!).

It sounds like it depends where you are ghere in ON Nut i am on 1-2 call and it is crap compered to when i had DTAC before and the only reason i stick with it is the company pay it!!

  10. Pattaya David it sounds to me like they are not mirrored correctly...

I deal with Raid 1 daily as our work system are setup with this configuration when i do it this is what i do.. lets say i am using 2 250gb hardrives i create the mirrored raid in the bios when i setup windows i just set the c partion to 20gb and leave the remainder as free unallocated space once windows has been installed i then go to disk configuration from within windows and allocated the remaining 230gb to a d or e drive....i only see 1 drive in windows i will only ever see a maxmium of 2 partions( c drive and r the remaining partion) this for me works excellent and is how i send out all the systems sent to our customers...

  11. i rhink that might be your problem..their is aq bit of a problem with Nokia bluetooth somewtimes it will show up as a Nokia Bluetooth device and other times it will say Microsoft Bluetooth or Standard bluetooth...

What does it say for modems in device manager????

Have you re-paired the new phone since you brought it, in Nokia connection manager?

Check all that and post back or...what i would do is...

Turn off your bluetooth for a minute then re-install Nokia Suite then reboot the PC/Laptop then turn bluetooth back on on your phone then open up Nokia Connection manager then re-pair the N81 and come back to me

Also check that your Laptop is showing as a paired device on your phone
