  1. I posted this in the pets forum a month ago but nothing, and since we are in Chiangmai, I hope posting here will find her a new home.

A 17 month old female Bangkaew cross free to a good home. All her shots, spayed, and healthy. Good guard dog. My wife is heartbroken about having to give her away, but we have 2 females in the same house and the older dog just will not accept this younger dog now that she has become mature.

We really need to find her a good home, and I will deliver her anywhere

  2. Hog Head, this is just what T Dog and I were talking about last night. If somebody mounts too much high performance kit onto a general production engine, you run the risk of having lots of power at top end, but the engine sputters at low rpm and you have to keep it above 6,000 rpm all the time.

The cams are stock, so powerband has not shifted upward. Fiddling with the right size pilot jet gives more off idle power than stock and the flat slide (really a D slide) carb pulls stronger in mid range. Currently I have a 42 pilot and 128 main.

All in all its a fun little bike, but a bit too little for me. Can't beat the fuel sipping though, but I imagine the new carb is a bit thirstier but after all it is still pretty thrifty.

  3. I have now changed the pipe and added a flat slide carb. After a lot of jet fiddling, it runs way better and a bit quicker.

25mm spacers and 20W fork oil firmed up the front end for my 82 kg weight.

    Still not exactly what I want, so I think I will sell it and buy one of the new 250's coming out later this year.;

  4. A token move, or an attempt to forestall the duty free (or more likely reduced duty) import of E-85 cars by Ford and GM, as none of the Japanese manufacturers have E-85 vehicles.

Thailand does not need an even more expensive version of a luxury Toyota. What we do need are low cost cars capable of running on the E-85 or even E20 that the govt is so keen to introduce.

Anything other than dropping the 80% duty and 20% excise tax to get E-85 cars here RFN, is nothing but pandering to the auto industry.

  5. - Benzine 95

    - Benzine 91

    - Gasohol 95

    - Gasohol 91

    - Diesel

    - Diesel B5 (with 5% bio derived oil)

    - LPG

    - NGV

    - E85

    - E20

The Government has made their position clear that they will make it easier for you by removing the first two options.

I suspect that options 3 and 4 will follow given the recent propaganda that E-10 cars can run on E-20, with option 5 next to be phased out.

Now a short option list, although not everyone can use what is offered.

  6. It is legal to change the body on a car? Example is take a VW bug and put on a porsch speedster fiberglass body. There are companies that make many different bodies that go on a VW platform.

    Thanks

In fact I am doing a speedster for myself right now, and I know of a guy in BKK that rebodies a Merc

Yes it can be done, but to make it 100% legal you need to have the new body approved by an Engineer, (which is not a big deal) and pay the excise tax on the new body. Register the body change in the book

Having said that, there are lots of buggy style cars running about that has not gone the legal route - TIT.

Importing the kit is a problem however as the authorities are against importing the parts to build a complete car. You can import a body, but the duty on a body is 80% plus 7% VAT on the CIF value. The easy way is to get the body locally, local cloned kit parts, local suppliers for the Beetle bits, leaving only bespoke parts to be imported.

I can make you a flared style RHD speedster body in Chiangmai

  7. But just this week, didn't some Thai politician claim that E85 would reach the market in 6 months?

But the ONLY car in the Thai market that can use it is a new Volvo, and you can imagine how many of there are on Thai roads.

A chicken and egg question, with no thought as to the egg side of the equation. Excise taxes on E-85 vehicles should have lowered a long time ago to create a market.

As to the claim that Thai made cars will be E-85 compatible in 18 months, I am falling off my chair laughing.

But then again, I wonder who owns all those ethanol plants with excess production, and how they are going to sell it?

  8. The only thing well planned about this is a ill thought through solution to use up the excess ethanol production

One must note that the only E-85 car in Thailand is a newish Volvo, and you can bet that there are not sufficent of these to use even 1 of the planned filing stations.

Somchai, convinced by the subsidised price and urged on my the kid at the pump may buy E-85 until it kills his car, but it will be a long time until there are cars on the road to use this fuel.

Conversion to E-85 is not a simple matter, and if this in fact was a planned introduction, the excise tax on E-85 vehicles would have lowered a long time ago.

A classic chicken and egg question, but remember when Ford was about to introduce the E-20 Focus to take advantage of the lower excise tax long before the fuel was available. The government at that time reversed the ir position on excise as the fuel was not available. If those long term planners had any foresight at all, there would be a market for E-20 now, as competition would have made the other manufacturers jump on the bandwagon.

Thai made E-85 cars in 18 months - What a pipe dream.

Mind you the Eco cars may go down the same pipe

  9. They started with an E10, now moving to E20.

It will be a long time before they get to E85, if at all.

Au Contraire, as production already exceeds consumption and more ethanol plants are slated to come on line. The owners of those plants will see to it that their intrests are looked after, no matter what the folly.

Volvo has an E-85 car in the market now, and with the planned reduction in excise tax, more will come. It remains to be seen if the subsidised cost of E-85 is sufficent to compensate for the reduced km per litre.

  10. 16 month old female Bang Kaew cross. Healthy, friendly, well behaved, all shots, and spayed. Good guard dog.

    Located in Chiangmai

We have 2 females and it has become apparent that the older dog just will not accept this younger one. Wife is heartbroken over having to give Joan away, but there will be a big problem one day and we need to find this younger dog a good home
