  1. A shameless plug for the Chiangmai ToyRide, who supports needy local kids "under the radar". Yesterday we donated 160 toys to very sick children in hospital, and are having a ride to Samoeng May 18 to donate toys, athletic equipment, and blankets to the poorest village kids in the region.

  2. 2. Better is a Kiehin PWK28, D slide type. You will find that the locals call these flat slides but this is marketing hype by those that really do not know. A flat slide is different and not available from Kiehin this small. Jet 45/128 with a pipe and WFO use

For the small incremental cost over the PE, and better performance, this is what I am buying

Cost is 4200 plus jets at 160 ea.

PS - Cost for a copy PWK is 3000B plus jets.

Quality is questionable and at this small incremental cost why dick about

  3. To clarify the carb issue - there are 2 types of Kiehin carbs and available in both copy and genuine formats.

    1. Use a carb from a Honda NSR-150 which is a round slide type, Kiehin PE28. Jet at 42/120, 40/125 for average street use with a pipe, or 48/135 for WFO use and/or cammed engines. This is probably OK for most riders and better than the stock unit.

Cost ranges from 1500 for a copy to 3000 for the real thing. Be very leery about the copies.

Add jets as required at 160 ea.

At this cost why bother with a used carb from an old NSR that Somchai has been "adjusting"

In both cases you will need the Honda RS-125 throttle at 1300

Aircleaner is a must, and either K&N cone type or local clone at 500 B.

Remove the charcoal can, and let the crankcase vent directly to atmosphere.

    3. I like Denso Iridium IU-27A plugs but cannot find them yet in CM. If I do anyone want in on buying a box?

alternate is NGK racing plug CR8E

    4. Ignition is the next step, but cost is now starting to rise, and after all this is a small displacement street bike. It soon becomes cheaper to buy a bigger bike. In terms of power for the baht, one is now entering into the realm of diminishing returns.

The hot coil set up is the integral coil and plug at 4300.

Cheaper alternative is a better Honda plug wire and Yamaha YZ250 or Suzuki RM coil. This is a low cost reasonable way to go

ECU is 4300 and removes the rev limiter.

Peace Blondie - If you do not want to spring for a PE28, I will sell you my stock carb at 1500 B with 4400 km on it if you wish.

    PM me

  4. I am ordering a Kehin 28 today from Goodspeed. cost is 3200 B. I ran across a local copy yesterday for 1500 but leery about the quality. She claimed "not a copy" but at 1500 ???

Jetting should be Ok at either 42/120 or 40/125 and I will have to see how it goes with the Endurance pipe.

Goodspeed is recommending 48/135 which sounds a bit fat for street use

Be aware that this carb has a longer travel than the stock CBR, and you will also need a throttle from a Honda RS-125 or Yamaha YZ-125. Honda cost 1500 but a clone can be had in CM for 150.00

Buy a K&N or local Hurricane air cleaner at the same time for 1000 B

Denso IU27A iridium plug will work best.

  5. There are sooooooo many reasons not to buy a RE, not the least of which is Prince of Darkness electricals, puking fork seals, oil leaks, inability to run at highway speed, Flintstone brakes, and a CBR-150 will eat it alive at 1/3 the cost.

    Nostalgia is nice but??

In any case they will not pass emissions regulations so import is impossible if one wants a clean green book

  6. Forget the cost in canada as TIT. If you want one, open your wallet as you will not find a decent bike for much less.

I see good Evos going for 650K and sometimes a bit less, with newer TC for 700 - 850. A brand new 05 Road King with some goodies and a tour pack is at Richco Motorsports in Chiangmai for 1 million. He also has a couple of Fat Boys around 800

  7. my car is over 12 years old since it rolled out of the factory. I haven't tried gasohol and I never wanted to. Comparisons and effects have been made in other threads about regular benzene and gasohol.

What do you know or have heard about gasohol effects on cars over 12 years? Just another opinion I want know.

the 12 year comment came from this PTT clown, and I question its validity.

I have written several articles on the effects of gasohol, and 2 weeks ago had a carb apart that had the pump diaphragm and rubber bits eaten away by gasohol. The effects have been thrashed over several times in this and other forums - search and ye shall find

The governments position is very clear, and you will soon have no choice but to use gasohol once petrol 91 is withdrawn from the market.

  8. PTT the biggest petrol retailer announced Mar 4th that they will stop all sales of regular 95 gasoline nationwide following the lead of Chevron and JET .

Analysts say that sales of 95 will be affected at other outlets as PTT is the biggest local refiner and distributer.

The government has made it very clear that 91 petrol will be replaced by gasohol.

Only in Thailand where vested interests overrule sanity.

Quote of the year from Chakrit Charuchinda, VP for Retail Marketing, PTT

"For owners of cars older than 12 years that need premium petrol. we are sorry about that"

By the governments own calculations there are 500,000 car owners (they ignored motorcycles), including owners of brand new cars like Ferraris for example, that are a tad sorrier

  10. Found where to buy the plexi, but all they will/can do is sell me the plastic. As usual the shop has no idea or could not be bothered to send me to a fab shop to make the screen.

Wasted a day being sent to Somchai type shop after shop and still cannot find a fabrication shop to do the work.

Is there a skilled plastic fabrication shop in CM?

  11. Where can I find a shop to make me a plexiglass winsdhield. A vingage race car style sort of like a boat screen.

I am building a 356 Speedster to suspend above the new bar in #1 Pub and need a vintage race car style windscreen. Not worth splurging on Lexan for this application, nor using a real glass 356 screen

    Nobody know?

  12. Any ideas on where I can obtain a berth for a 50' boat near BKK

The marina in Pattaya is full and I need permanent moorage beginning around June

Secure, min 6 ft. draft, and able to get in with 54 ft. of clearance

Ocean Marina is full???? Who did you talk to? I almost refuse to believe that this is true; they could easily add another finger on nearest the shore.

There is another marina in Bang Pakong river which might be ok, there are few/no berths further north of that of any great worth - next to Lakeside is the Bang Pakong one.

Any closer to Bangkok and you have 6 hours of motoring before you reach anywhere half decent.

I take it this is some sort of stink boat or a multi of some sort? If multi...man that is a tiny rig!

Full per the office last week. Yes they could add another finger and are considering doing so but no answer as to when

Any idea on how to contact Bang Pakong

    Yes a stink boat:

  15. Whats this ,,,an owners club without a workshop manual between them..tut tut :o

Had the wife call Niyon Panich the other day to ask about a shop manual and all I could get is the usual mai mee, and no interest in ordering me one.

In fact the dolt could not even tell me what kind of oil to use other than multigrade and the one with the gold top is better. I will be wrenching it myself if this is the level of expertise available, and will look a bit harder for the manual.

OTOH, it is a new Honda and unlikely to need much fixing unless my mods overstress its little heart.

  16. Hire a local interior contractor to do the entire job, and propose the design on a turn key basis.

    I used Lavalin Design, 081 595 1001, K. Vichien

He does not speak English, but work was on time, excellent, and a fair price.

Homepro next to Carrefour will do tile design NC if you have a large enough purchase

  17. I just had my 11 of my PVC French doors ripped out and new sliding ones installed.

Excellent contractor, quality, dual pane low E glass, and good workmanship, at a fair price. Thai lady owned and her English is passable.

Thai Conch profile and Science Co. Ltd.

    081 940 6899

Her name is O but I think she is off to China any day.

  18. The facts:

Richard Wilson at Richco Motorsports 081 030 8307

Richie, his father Mike, and myself at times, have been doing the wrenching while he has the new Thai mechanic, (Guy) attend Harley school.

Richie also runs a powdercoating business from the same shop, and Mike does custom painting out of his own shop on Moon Maung Rd.
