Buy the RK tool at around 100 USD
-
It is a HP and torque issue. The 250 does not have a lot of power and the clip is fine. Not so for something with more power

Use a clip type link on a higher powered bike at your own risk as if it ever breaks the results are usually catastrophic.
There is a very good reason why a clip type link is not used, and if the manufacturers could do it they would
I could not find a good chain tool in Thailand and ended up importing a RK one. Even with a quality tool such as the RK, is is a good idea on larger (530 +?) chains to grind the head off the rivet rather than use brute force with the tool and punch it out

Some may like the odd "anteater" nose on the Versys, but it seems to me that the designer went to lunch, had a few beers, and forgot to finish the job. I finally could not take it anymore and built a fibreglass filler panel to solve this anteater look. On my own bike I am going to forgo the beak, and go with just these filler panels, Thinking to paint mine red to match the bike, but flat black is an easy rattle can job for those that prefer the blacked out look.
A bit more work to do on the finish and mounting brackets but it will look like this:
Since I have to make a mould I will be making several sets should anyone else be interested. Price is not known until I am done but think in the area of 4000 B in black gel coat, and with quality bracketry.
These filler panels are part of a larger project that incorporates a beak, and the design is such that these filler panels can be used alone or in conjunction with a beak. If a beak is deemed necessary to take ones attention away from the less than stellar headlight housing, it may be easily fitted it at a future date.
On to the beak design and mould making after Christmas for those that really want the beak

I just booked a flight on Cebu to Clark, and the ticket says depart/arrive at BKK
I thought that all the low cost airlines were now at Don Mueang.
Naturally Cebu has no email contact and the local phone is always engaged
Anyone know

I wonder why a certain person whose name begins with a T and lives in Dubai has not been charged with murder over the war on drugs, and the 2 incidents in the South where scores were killed

The Chiangmai ToyRide has some that were donated so that we can raise money for needy children
Buy one and help the Chiangmai ToyRide at the same time
PM me

Not quite as you can buy a HD from Richco in Chiangmai with a full warranty, same deal, and supported by Powerstation

I have never had any luck in machining a bike rotor, even using a surface grinder as I can always feel pulsing through the lever
Give it a go on a surface grinder with a magnetic table, or Blanchard type grinder but be prepared to buy a new one
Brakes are highly overrated anyway, and rotors are unimportant and far too expensive

Took Mrs Hoghead out on my boat to the Northern BC Coast on her first visit to Canada. The trip itself had several classic moments including fishing.
Went salmon fishing and she could not get over the concept that you could only keep 4 a day, and had to punch the number of big springs on your license. Having a license was a novel concept in itself.
The best was when I recycled the salmon carcasses into a big commercial crab trap, next tide change up it came and the look on her face and squeals of joy upon seeing the trap plugged with Dungeness crabs was priceless. Almost as priceless as when I started throwing back the females and even having a tool to measure for undersize. She soon caught on however that it came up full every day so not so miffed about throwing them back.
Not so keen on my method for killing and cleaning crabs but no qualms about eating them. She still looks the other way when I pull in a fish and dispatch it.
The thrill of the first snow lasted a short time and then it became so much nicer to watch through the winter. You can drive in snow?
The house has a big heater? Where is the aircon
Your truck does not have aircon?
Why is the traffic so orderly?
You have to pump your own gas?
The water is so cold
You can drink the water? This met with great suspicion
Deer in the yard was not too threatening as they are cute, but the black bear right outside the bedroom window one morning was a bit more of a shock

Where is it - google street view is no help to me

1. Make the dough yourself. Mrs Hoghead uses a breadmaker machine but easy enough to do it the old fashioned way
2. Special blend, and Google is your friend
3. Makro for mozzarella cheese, peperoni, salami etc

Just realized that Sunday in Canadian Thanksgiving and Mrs. Hoghead has a 10 Kg turkey on for a house full of guests
Needless to say I cannot go this week
-
If not raining, I suggest up via the Fang route and back via Prahao and #120.
Overnight in CR
I may go on my Versys if there is interest

I have had several motorbike frames powdercoated over the past 20 years and no problems.
The last one done by Richco is holding up great after 5 years
-
powdercoat it
Richco Powdercoating on Whuali Rd does excellent work
-
Yes that is the same one I found
Thanks for all the help
Noe that a slider with integral paddock stand will not allow for wheel removal.
-
I do not see a fork slider
Edit:
I stand corrected and once you wade through all the pages in their website there are Versys fork sliders at 1650.00. This is a simple slider and does not incorporate a paddock stand.
Seems a bit fresh for what it is, and I think that I will make something better and cheaper
-
Anyone see Versys fork sliders for sale in Thailand. Kawi in Chiangmai does not have them and no interest in supplying me with a set.
Tony BKK suggested a local source but no reply
It looks like I am going to have to get some either machined or import a set. This is not a complicated part so machining is probably more cost effective than 50.00 USD + import, and I can incorporate a paddock stand support at the same time.
Naturally a simple non-stand version will be a lot cheaper, and I cannot see it being more than 1200 B
Anyone interested in a group buy to gain some economy of scale at the machine shop

No CAT, True, BBB, or anything but crappy TOT here in Green Valley Golf Course, Chiangmai. BBB is nearby and I even offered to pay to run a new line to my house but no can do for some mysterious reason.
Seems that I am knackered

Is there an answer to my OP
Chain Breaking / Joining Tool
in Motorcycles in Thailand
Posted · Edited by Hog Head
Once again:
Buy the RK tool and if you are determined to break large chains without grinding, but a spare punch pin
Nothing will pi$$ you off quicker than a cheap tool
