  1. I was on a flight from Dubai to Bangkok one night when a fight broke out after a passenger objected to another setting the seat in front too far back. The crew vanished from sight and it was down to passengers to deal with the situation. Do these arrogant snobbish crew realise that what they are is waitresses/waiters in the sky. That's all.
  2. One of the most useful contributions to the five pages. Yes, surprising how many told what they paid, which is totally irrelevant. I am intending to visit a hospital. The point you make about 'knocking a little bit off' could be a factor. When tested at the shop I wasn't entirely convinced about one eye, the one that had changed since I last got glasses, but was told it was better not to change the setting any further. It was a bit vague due to translation limitation. It may well be that a 'stronger' prescription might cause some dizziness. In that case, I'd have to live with less than perfect vision. I've also reached 75, so I have to expect some deterioration I suppose. whether it is something more, hopefully the hospital will reveal. Of the 20,000 I paid, the frames were 1,400, discounted from 5,000. The cost of the progressive lenses made up the rest.
  3. Why are you asking these questions? How does it relate to my original post? Why do you want my eye medical situation?
  4. And when they tell me to get lost and call the police?
  5. I bought my last pair at the same store with no problems, despite the clothes they were wearing. And I live in Thailand, not Europe or the USA, so I need to buy here. The quality is nothing to do with where the lens are made. They are prepared for me in Thailand by, I assume, Thai technicians. Of course, that might be the problem this time.
  6. Dunno them! The top store was plastered with their ads. Funny, the blue and white boxes etc matched the shop colours. Maybe they are part of the same company. As the most seen optical shop in Thailand, as common as Starbucks and nearly as common as 7-Eleven, you'd think they could be trusted. We'll see. I've received some good advice here, some from professionals. We'll see where it takes me.
  7. My frames were 1400 of the 20,000 I paid.
  8. I will get a check, but it really doesn't have to be at a private hospital. Most government ones are fine and 70 million Thais seem to manage. I've only stayed in a private hospital once, and the water pump failed so there no water on upper floors - it had to be carried up in buckets. And the emergency button in my room didn't work. My family got me out before they killed me.
  9. All good info. Eyes are the weak part of a human, aren't they. Not much else starts to break down at such a young age, does it. Look at the kids who walk onto the pitch with PL footballers - even tiny kids who are around 4-5 years old are sometimes wearing glasses. Better to be a dog. I think I used to be one but did something bad like bite the postman so got sent back as a human as punishment
  10. We did try moving them around but it didn't really help. The investigation continues.
  11. She and thee may have a point....
  12. Your final sentence explains your excellent post. But, we did try various movements with no real benefit. Up down, pulling away from the nose a little. We didn't try side to side though, and now I've tried that it does make a difference. It's good info to take back to the shop.
  13. Good question. They are very similar, to the extent that I've even thought of going back to the old ones. One eye has changed from last time and the balance was wrong, but I'm not seeing much difference, if at all, in that eye. That really does need to be sorted out, which is why I went for new. A hospital check will tell me if the shop screwed up.
  14. They are. You can't adjust a finely manufactured lens for obvious reasons. They are manufactured very precisely according to the prescription.
  15. The frames cost 1400 of the 20,000.
  16. No, you simply change the lenses based on new eye test. Who pays? You think the shop will for their mistake? That isn't the Thai way. They'll deny deny deny there is a problem and it must be me at fault.
  17. The frames were only a minor part of the cost. They were around 1400 with a 70% discount. The lenses are progressive and cost the rest. I did ask if I could use my old frames but they warned there might be a danger of a lens falling out, and the old frames were looking a bit tatty after about four years of use, so....
  18. That's certainly possible. I posted in an effort to see if there might be a way to avoid that.
  19. You are spot on with this. Yes, they are progressive, and I/the shop tried changing the fit but with no real benefit. I'm going to test now at a hospital to check whether the test at the shop was accurate and take it from there. I'll also check those YouTube videos.
  20. Isn't protection of minors the job of parents, not the police? You know, discipline. And what about tomorrow, RTP? Or do you only protect one evening a year?
  21. More quality journalism from The Thaiger, and more quality foreigners attracted to Thailand.
  22. I had to pay on ordering. Which I can understand as they'd be useless for someone else and I might not have returned to the store.
  23. Good luck with that. I read of someone who bought some shoes at a department store whose name begins with R and the next day the sole of one fell off. He took them back for a refund, they said no, he refused to leave and they called the police. Customer service, Thai-style. But, as suggested on here, I'll get my eyes tested again at a hospital. If they tested wrong at the store I'll take it from there.
  24. Another foreign criminal is attracted to Thailand.
