Thaksin to walk free from prison on Sunday
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
He didn't pull the wool over anyone's eyes. Everyone knew exactly what was going to happen and that it has surprises absolutely no-one. No-one would have expected anything different. -
Both.

I really don't care about your glasses, what you paid and your experiences. How is any of that relevant to my situation now and the question I posed. And I've told you twice that where I live I can't just walk into another shop. I'll not be responding to any more of your irrelevant posts here. Nothing you write is helpful.
-
I did check them and I already told you we reached stalemate and I said I'd try them for a couple of days. I also said my options where I live are limited. And I paid what they told me I had to pay. alternative places to shop aren't an option where I am. I tried them when I was in the shop and had reservations and reached stalemate, with me in the end saying I'd try them for a couple of days. And I already wrote above that I'm going to take another test at a hospital, as someone suggested.
-
I'm no longer there. But thanks.

I really don't care what you paid. It's totally irrelevant. My wife pays 100 baht off a market stall for hers. Different eyes, different lenses required, different prices. My original post asked what my options are NOW, not what I should have done then. They wanted 100% up front, and alternative places to shop aren't an option where I am. I tried them when I was in the shop and had reservations and reached stalemate, with me in the end saying I'd try them for a couple of days. What other options did I have then? And what options now was the question I posed. And as for your sarcastic comment: Adjust the lenses obviously. Are you not capable of solving basic problems? Lenses are manufactured at a factory according to the prescription they are given. People do not adjust lenses. Maybe you meant the frame? Done. Basic problem solving tried. Now keep your sarcasm to yourself. It adds nothing to the thread, nor does it answer the question I raised. Thanks.

And if the first test was wrong? Ever tried getting a refund from a Thai company?
-
Depends on the type of lens and prescription you have, doesn't it. One size doesn't fit all.
-
Yes they did the exam, and I have the prescription on a credit card sized card. And I had in mind doing exactly as you say. But i think a check at the hospital is the first step to take.
-
I did take them back and they say they don't know why there's a problem. How would you deal with that?

I recently got new glasses from what I assume is the top company as they are located in every town in the country. And, if anything, they are less effective than my previous pair. The staff smile a lot but don't really seem to have an answer, and of course getting anyone in Thailand to admit they made a mistake is impossible. Does anyone have a suggestion what I could do now? Do I just swallow a 20,000 baht loss and start again somewhere else?

The bottom line is that mankind will not do anything of any worth to prevent climate change as there is too much self-interest by too many in not making it happen. The biggest polluters are the very countries who are the most reluctant to make any changes. Add in the continuing rape of the world's lung, the Amazon rainforest, at a rapid rate which the last President there was in favour of, and the present one who is powerless in the face of those carrying out the destruction, and the planet really doesn't have a chance. And so nor do we. It's interesting to see the way the human race self-destructs, in so many areas. Seen Ukraine or Gaza lately? And that's just in the last few hundred days. Build, destroy. It's everywhere. This week the appalling water pollution in the UK has been in the news, with those responsible receiving massive bonuses for overseeing it. The human race flounders on a sea of greed and there is not the smallest sign that anything will change. Just the way it is, and future generations will reap what is sown. And not enough of those who matter care enough to change it. It's ignored, pushed down the road. Any talk of change is just that, talk.

The planet has had at least one ice age before we came along to pollute the planet. Isn't that what killed off the dinosaurs (apart from those in VIP positions in Thailand)? It's a cycle. I suppose we're just helping it along, and maybe at the same time removing ourselves from existence to leave the Earth to do what it's been doing for millions of years unaided by us. Now it's our turn to be made extinct. That's okay. The planet clearly will be far healthier without us.

Move To Reduce Speed Limit On 40 Busy Bangkok Roads To 50km Per Hour
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Just add it to the endless list of other laws that aren't enforced. And, actually, there is probably nowhere in the world where cars keep to the speed limit. Maybe one - I used to rent cars quite often when I went to the US and one time tried to floor it on a long, straight empty road. And I couldn't get it above the 55mph limit as it had been 'doctored'. -

Thai woman’s deathly Bangkok rental quest raises eyebrow
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Someone I knew died in Kata Beach. Within hours the locals had descended like vultures and stripped the place bare, including taking his SUV and even the bed he died on. Savages. -
Thailand braces for cold front and fierce monsoons
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm in the NE and my 10-day forecast is for 33-37 degrees. Being a weather forecaster is great - you can say whatever, get it wrong and never get fired as everyone just expects it as normal. -
Contraband, Pirated Goods Worth Over bt8 mln Destroyed
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
How is the 8 million assessed? The fake value or the imagined value if the goods were real (a figure that no-one was going to pay anyway, thinking they were real and not fake)? -
Facebook is rubbish at preventing scammers
Bangkok Barry replied to scubascuba3's topic in General Topics
If a business can't be bothered to set up a professional website then they aren't professional enough for me to deal with them. It really doesn't cost much, and their don't care attitude should be a red flag. It's very common in Thailand for the locals to do that, and it's just a sign of laziness and unprofessionalism.
