  1. That's what I do when I have to visit my Homo Sapiens Maintenance and Repair Centre to see my drug dealer every few months. If you go early the place is packed, with some even getting there long before dawn to get a queue number. I go after lunch when it's almost empty.
  2. Not really. The abbot is a revered and respected member of society. The family are not. No different to when a rich kid smashes daddy's car into someone and kills them. All goes quiet, as one party has 'status' and influence and money and the other does not. It's Thailand, where no-one is equal under the law. Does the video even still exist, or was it 'lost' by the police the mother trustingly handed it to? The reporter, as useless as the police, didn't bother to ask so we don't know. You know, I keep being reminded of what of a Korean tv producer I worked with said after just one weekend in Thailand, as she perfectly summed up the country in just six words - the standards here are so low,
  3. I think you're confused. The video was made by the grandmother to be used as evidence and the mother took it to the police who did what they always do, which is nothing. And the abbot did what Thais in general do and denied everything. And so, as so often in Thailand, the public who are supposed to be protected by the Royal Thai Police but are not, have to turn to social media to expose the corruption and official indifference to a child being raped. It's Thailand. It's their culture. Nothing we can do about it.
  4. All of your long and explanatory post is fine. The bottom line is that Trump is in the lead to become President again. If he is allowed to stand. Usually the only person in America not allowed to stand for President is the President if he has served two terms, but 2024 might be an exception. Although the courts move so slowly they might not make up their minds until 2026, which is a bit of a problem.
  5. Whenever over the years friends and family in the UK have asked if Thais drive on the left or the right I've always answered, "Yes."
  6. That wouldn't stop him being President. It's just that visiting overseas dignitaries such his friends in Russia and North Korea would have to eat prison food in the jail canteen instead of scoffing themselves at a White House banquet..
  7. Trump continues to believe he could do whatever he wanted with impunity while in office, and yet millions of people want him back in the White House. What a sad and dangerous place the USA has become.
  8. He was surprised there were no bodies left in a car that had been blazing for two hours. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, is he.
  9. A Thai will always do what they want to do, regardless of the danger to them or anyone else or the situation. They are utterly ungovernable. It's an interesting part of their culture.
  10. Meanwhile in the lunatic asylum, from another report today: Over the past several days various Thai politicians and government officials have made headlines, at least on Thai language news, with consistent updates on what they call a pressing issue-Elephant pants. The men in suits might have their priorities wrong, don't you think? A more pressing issue might be dealing with important stuff like rape and police corruption and cover-ups? Nah. That takes effort though, doesn't it, and works against Thai culture.
  11. Did the red-hot reporter contact the police to ask why they had taken no action for nine months, despite being given video evidence? You know, ask questions?
  12. She didn't. You made that up. She did it once to obtain EVIDENCE that the abbot still denied as that is what Thais people do, and the police ignored the video evidence as that is what Thai police do. All perfectly normal in this wonderful country. Can't trust monks, can't trust the police, the two bodies that are there to support people.
  13. This topic applies to many/most businesses these days. It's called progress. For the businesses as they save money on staff, not for the customers. The well-being of customers, offering a proper service, is very much a secondary consideration if it even exists at all.
  14. I think you're confused. The Brit was attacked by an Israeli after he protested about him (the Israeli) trying it on with his girlfriend.
  15. The Onion is a satirical news outlet. Thaiger pretends to be a serious and factual news outlet but is staffed by some who really aren't very good at their job but think they are. There's the difference.
  16. Where did you read he was 'some drunken British pub knob'? What I read was he was in the pub and someone tried it on with his girlfriend, the Brit protested (as would you, I'm sure, sober or not) and was attacked. So you either 1 - made up what you wrote from your own imagination and wrote it as fact, or 2 - you were unable to understand what you read, or 3 - you have a different news source. I'd go with 1, probably 2, and not 3.
  17. AN is not allowed to change anything from a news source so we have to accept the garbage that Thaiger tosses at us on a daily basis. Some of their writers try to demonstrate they are skilled journalists by indulging in flamboyant language. but it just makes them look like kids playing a game.
  18. You're not one of the millions of Americans who are too dumb to understand that it is courts and juries and judges who incarcerate people, not politicians. Are you?
  19. Same last time, same this time. Out of all the people in America that is the best they can find. Twice, it would seem. A choice between a serial criminal (even before the current cases come to trial) or a geriatric. Incredible. That is the best they can find.
  20. Of course, it isn't unusual for taxi drivers to attack fellow taxi drivers over a passenger, said no-one anywhere outside of Thailand. As far as I know it's just a custom in the land of smiles and we read of it quite often. Although I stand to be corrected. How is the Philippines?
  21. The cartoon depicts the historical facts of the reason for the conflict. Or perhaps you're also okay with occupation of a country as well as being okay with 27.000+ deaths.
  22. How many of the 27,000+ were Hamas? How many were 'untargeted' civilians. How many were killed in the south after Israel demanded they move south to 'safety'. The very fact also that Israel was able to cut off just about everything to citizens of Gaza was exactly what the Hamas attack was about. Israel are occupiers of land that belonged to the Palestinians, and this cartoon illustrates perfectly what the conflict is about. Still, interesting to see you supporting and trying to justify mass murder.
  23. He's probably just kick someone else in the throat and steal their phone.
