  1. Interesting. I just attempted to try it but the video played anyway . So, another time.
  2. That seems to be quite common here, and that is why there is so much violence often over the most trivial things. They explode over nothing. I guess moderation just isn't taught as a part of Thai culture.
  3. And the police did..... what?
  4. I used to fly Turkish quite often en-route to London or Baku, and on a number of occasions they would overbook and tried to offload me and others I know on the Istanbul-Bangkok sector. Only my Star Alliance gold card got me through Even then, I needed to protest, rather than them automatically giving me priority due to my card. One nice touch though was the on-board chef for those up front, with full uniform and large white hat.
  5. Ad blocking is the problem though, isn't it. YouTube is not allowing us to view videos with one. If Brave automatically uses one then in theory you can no longer watch the videos using Brave without turning the blocker off.
  6. I use Brave and YouTube blocks my viewing. I'll play around and see if there's a setting I can change.
  7. In some ways it's good, other ways not. Same as visiting any unfamiliar country, I guess. What I find hard to deal with is the total absence of any common sense though.
  8. Appearance is everything to a Thai. Used to be that way in the west about 50 years ago, before things became less formal. Thailand hasn't caught up with the modern world yet (some might say that's a good thing, the way things are). but judging someone on how they look is very flawed, Many of the biggest fraudster and crooks, including those who reek of corruption, wear suit and tie or a smart uniform so in Thai culture must be respected.
  9. They do? I've never seen that. Maybe people refer to Thais as this is a forum about Thailand? What do you think?
  10. Exactly. I did look at that, but it's a bit fiddly. Disabling, entering code. Okay for those who want to mess around like that, but not necessary for those who don't.
  11. There has been quite a lot of exposure in recent days about YouTube blocking users who use an Ad Block. Various sources have suggested certain Ad blockers that can get around the problem, but there's an easier way that doesn't need any new extensions. Simply copy the address of the particular video you want to watch and paste it into one of several websites that allow you to download YouTube videos. They include YouTube downloader, SaveFrom, Convert YouTube and DownloadYouTube Videos. You can save it and then watch on whatever you choose. I tend to transfer to a usb and watch on my tv.
  12. Face is the operative word, isn't it. A farang had taken action while - in the Thai view - making the father lose face. The fact that it was a farang and not a fellow Thai only accentuated the situation and trumped any feeling of gratitude. You were the bad guy for making the locals lose face.
  13. They probably believe it was meant to be. That absolves them from all responsibility trying to intervene. My wife has several times said, about road accidents, they were going to die anyway. Thais are simply wired differently to us. They have no interest at all in anything outside of their own little bubble.
  14. That has nothing to do with people laughing and saying let her drown.
  15. As I've written elsewhere on this thread, I once saw a group of student girls standing in front of a crippled beggar on a footbridge at Victory Monument, laughing at him. It's a very strange society here. It's sometimes like living on a different planet.
  16. "Teens filmed laughing while watching a disabled man drown" https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4716516/amp/Teens-filmed-laughing-watching-disabled-man-drown.html Thanks. And reminds me of seeing some teenage girls at Victory Monument in Bangkok standing and laughing at a crippled beggar.
  17. Let us know where else you've read of people laughing as someone drowns. Thanks.
  18. So why is her left leg pixilated in the photo accompanying the report? More outstanding Thai reporting?
  19. Another example of a morally bankrupt nation, alongside the headline today of people laughing as a young woman drowned. Just part of their culture they are so proud of.
  20. The longer I stay in Thailand, the more I learn that Thailand is a Buddhist nation in name only. Of course, expecting any Thai to take responsibility for anything is a waste of time, even trying to save someone's life.
  21. You have a point. Do you actually know of anyone who has taken the marriage of convenience route though? I don't.
  22. Thank you for your comments. You do know that you are close to breaking forum rules don't you, abusing another member with insulting remarks. Instead of sending more abuse my way, you might like to read them.
  23. Thank you for your concern. I don't find their noise annoying, just pointless when they are on an all but empty road with no pedestrians around. I did write country road, and I think you are looking at it from an urban, not a rural, perspective.
