Regarding forks, I've had Rock Shox, Manitou's, and FOX, and can say that the FOX are absolutely the best. I've got a four year old F100/RLT and a 100 RLC at the moment and they have never needed service except for a bit of air every few months. I also use FOX rear shocks and they seem to need service more often, but not abnormally so.
CobraST, do you have some more specific directions to TCA? I need to check them out. I've been pretty happy with SPIN out on Canal Road near Night Safari, and even yesterday I cruised in there for some spokes as I broke one. They gave me two for free and off I went as I buy stuff there. Nice owner, but the mechanic could be friendlier. (The old mechanic was great.)
I just self imported a new bike that came equipped with a ROCK SHOX Race SID Fork. Way smooth on the descents with no rebound going up. Will see how well it stands up from a maintenance perspective but this is a very nice fork.
SIDS are strictly xc race fork.
Fox make shocks for downhill and freeride as well
Rockshox make downhill forks also, its horses for courses

Yes, 1:200,000 or 1:50,000 sheets are available at a reasonable price, altho I forget what that is, at the National Map/Geographic Office just to the west of the monster monument, the Patu Xai. The map office is also known by some as the Service Geographic. Entrance is near the old USAID compound at Na Hai Dieo. The building looks like it's about where the arrow is on the attachment, at Google Earth: 17-58-20.95 x 102-37-06.16

I did wonder about the security guard.
I dont know how to text in thai, how do you get a thai keyboard?
I'll try that if I can
just been to the police station.
ther was an older english guy there who said he had a gun pointed at him by his next door neighbour, a senior policeman's wife.
He called the police 4 hours before, they said they were on their way, but never showed up. He wasnt getting anywhere with them though so he left

passing through 700yr stadium yesterday, I stopped by the road to change, and put my bag down. Then rode off without it
It took 20+ minutes to realise and return to find it wasnt there.
I found one of the security had seen someone come out of the flats beside, and run off with the bag
I think they must have seen me ride off without the bag from their window, and grabbed it
I left my details with the security and reported it to the police.
Anyway I lost a small black zip-on rucksack, Lowe Alpine.
Inside was my phone, a black NOKIA N79, all my numbers, fotos, etc,in a black smiley pouch, some ID, tools and a first aid kit.
If anyone sees any of this, dumped nearby, or knows where it could be handed in to, or any other ideas please reply here
Tools were a large 3way wrench,8,10,12mm, small 3way allen key marked MBUK, screwdriver wrapped in silver duct tape, digital tyre gauge, etc,
and probably some very important things I have completely forgotten about
Location was at the end of the road in the main entrance,on the right before the barrier

There's a new place that opened last month. They have an herbal steam room that is very hot--too hot for me, a very nice wet herbal sauna, hot tub (that lately hasn't been too hot), a cold tub, swimming pool, massage (on the up-and-up), and they're working on getting a fitness room together. Showers and towels are plentiful; water and fruitplate is free. Last month they had a special offer of 10 visits for 700 baht; maybe that rate is still available. It's the deal of the year in Chiang Mai for sauna lovers.
It's called the Lanna Sauna and Sport Club, located several blocks west of Ratchabaht University off Chang Puak Road. Take the soi that's between the Pharma Choice and the 7-Eleven across from the University athletic field. Go down that soi almost to the end. You can take either of 2 lefts...they will get you to the same place...it's a U-shaped road. A the far end of that road is the place...a newly-painted orange building with no signage. Go up a few steps and you're there. Here's a wikimapia link.
Hours daily are something like 12 noon to 8 pm. Phone 053-221-288 or 089-999-5099. No need to worry about those gays here--or anywhere else for that matter. As far as I can tell all are welcome, male and female, adults and kids, gay and straight.
That sounds like a good option :-)
I just tried the place, the steam room was too cold, when I got there, then it was too hot, no steam
the sauna was about 47degrees, warm, not hot like a sauna
I did ask for the sauna to be hot, but they didnt alter it, so I left disappointed
maybe thats the way they like it, but its not for me

The last 2 weeks or so the diving platforms at 700 yr stadium have been locked off.
Someone mentioned an accident, and yes, terrible shame
However I like using them and was glad to find somewhere I could improve my jumping/diving
Does anyone know the official story of when/if they will be open again?
Or know how to get them back in use?
maybe join some club to use them?

Loud enough that sometimes I have to get peeled off the ceiling and the windows rattling and building vibrating from the shock wave.
thats loud!

Transformer?
dunno, was very loud.
I dont know what a bomb or a grenade sounds like but I don;t know what else it could've been
paranoia creeping in I guess
10 minutes later,I've heard no sirens so I guess everythings OK
anyway,whats a transformer?
I was watching out the window one stormy night when the electric pole/wires got hit by lightning
about 25yards away, smashed the brown ceramic plates, sounded like a big telly being smashed up

This is true. I've had several torches stolen by these thieving snakes.
So How do you know it was the snakes if they'd nicked your torch?
The shape of a 'dolphin' torch is quite distinct...even when it's in a snake's belly. Ever seen a snake that grows in the dark?
My girlfriend's seen a snake that grows in the dark.
but luminous dolphin eating snakes?
You're talking cobras

Firefly are offering 55rm one way on any flight.
Mind you, I tried booking phuket to penang, and it was a lot more.
maybe they change the price on the last page?
hope its some use to someone, I'm just begrudging not having booked with airasia before

the road past is still blocked so if you want to go to 700yr stadium you have to go the long way round

it was only a few days ago the finger of guilt was being pointed at China, The construction of another dam being the root cause of the problem.
Seems like they're doing the same in Burma

Is anyone familiar with the details of the mountain bike shop in Sansai? A Thai chap purchased a cool looking gray-black 'Avalanche' with 'Maxxis.com' tires and Shimano gears for around 13000B: I'd like something similar, but shops in CMai plead ignorance. Cheers
I think I saw avalanches in sportsworld in Central about 13000bt
