Thailands seedy international reputation.  Still a long way to go before they can replace sex tourism with quality tourism.

I hope they will never succeed with this clean-up. I feel at home with all the sleazy signs, the pimps, the painted faces of the lovelies, the century-old game "wussyouname wheryoufom". I second this mild form of sex tourism as also favoured and silently agreed upon by all Thai governments of past and present (with their sticky fingers in the till...)

  2. " BANGKOK: -- The military junta has wasted more than Bt1 billion over the past two years paying 200 political opportunists to produce a vague, outdated and redundant “reform agenda”

neither time nor money wasted - both was cleverly used by the "powers" to assist their planned scheming: Who are we to know whether or not exactly this kind of result was to be achieved?

Very good rescue workers to release the snake into the wild, not eat it.

the discerned gourmet knows, of course, that the meat of a python is anything but tasty - different from a few other snake species which come quite tasty if prepared nicely.

  4. " this new model may be the greatest challenger ever from the Swedish automaker"

    ???

isn't that rather a Chinese- made car (by the Chinese Co. Geely with one of their depts. being Volvo)? Geely bought the name, all processes, all distribution channels and the like, didn't they? In 2010, FORD sold all of her Volvo stakes to the Chinese - at that time Volvo financially was a deep-red figure operation...

Thank you general….soi 6 is just grossly overpriced….hope this lowers prices back to normal levels.

this is wishful thinking and inconsistent with Thai business logics: Once the market goes down you have to increase prices to get the same gross total at the end of the day as before...this goes for girls, cars, land, fruit juice, shoes, string tangas, combined harvesters and you name it

Meanwhile in Pat Pong, Nana and many Thai soapy massage and karaoke bars all around Thailand there is far more "inappropriate" things going on.

I wonder if anyone is aware of that?

yes, I am aware of that...together with swarms of police, army, navy, bankers, politicians, teachers, gov workers and the like. We all meet in places like that...as long as the guys are not bumming about in MaeHongSong on one of their upclass "seminars"

You can get easily a one year extension based in retirement for 1900 baht

exactly this is the question as to the future policy of immigration!

How long will they still offer a one year extension? for how long will they suffer from 1900 baht, why not increase to say 5000 baht? for how long will they still be happy with 800k/400k to be shown when extending, why not finally move it up to 2 mill / 1mill??

There are plenty of qualified people to run the country, so there is no logical reason to reinstate the groups that have previously failed to administer the country successfully

In Thailand, then you have to find new answers to the next "cui bono" question - any new kid on the block quickly turns his back to everything good for the country and shall rather concentrate on ego-centrism

I have heard a lot of lies in Thailand, specialy when it comes from government organisations such as TAT: this girl is the best lie and story teller i ever experianced and nobody stop her to ask investigative questions?

why should any "official" body be keen to silence her permanent red-lie b.s.? This all is in the interest of the country, helps TH. build Potemkin castles to cheat investors and tour operators into the big never never...means: It is legal by and in itself

Scary really. As time goes on machines will take over so many jobs. The real big problem then will be how to distribute the money.

a phenomenom for most industrialized countries...former workers are expected to become sports wizards or philosophers or the like. Governments and industries of these countries will take care of the myriads of jobless - no problem. For Thailand, a similar solution will be found - no problem (Thailand 6.1 or so)

Thanks to all you gentlemen who have enlightened me on the use of a charge card in Thailand. From now on I will use the local currency on my charges. Never to old to learn something new. Thanks again.

and don't forget: the Thai cashier more than ever so often "forgets" to ask you which debit currency you prefer - so always be pro-active and tell them in advance. On the other hand: Once I forget and they forget to explore my favourite currency  let them re-wind the full booking and start all over again. The friendly customer faces behind you will be a lesson for the cashier
