These bloody buses! They develop brake failures all on their own. They lose balance at all the wrong moments. And they crash causing deaths. Something has to be done about them.
and all of these problems occur on roads totally unknown to the busses and their masters behind the wheel

funny - though this happened only a few hours ago you don't suffer a hangover at all, you almost wrote a book about your misfortune (no mis-spell, no grammar mistakes) ... I think you anticipated already about a week ago what was going to happen - just to be on the safe side you started your story book at that time - lots of hindsight ... thanks anyway for pure fiction

The rule in Thailand is NEVER stop , to assist at the scene of an accident , being flagged down or any other similar situation . Keep going no matter what , call at a police station to report what you have seen and where . In the worst scenario you may be robbed , either of your money or car/motorcycle , failure to comply may result in you being bludgeoned , beaten , stabbed or shot .
add one here: if you should take the victim of a traffic crash (not yours!) to a hospital being the helpful Farang, reception will ask YOU and not the unconscious victim for a credit card - now you're in the game!

I've been helped roadside a number of times riding a bicycle…nobody had their hand out, or was looking for a big pay day.
our Thai compatriots know "farang do not cheat", we know "Thai like to put up fancy scenes..."

So no cheaters on Thai visa? What! We're the good old boys."I'm strict Catholic, can't cheat"
recently, there was another of them surveys quoting that more than 80% of all Thai males have regular outdoors activities - we would not assume that the greater part of them guys were cut dick-less, would we?

@Khon Kaen Dave: Why do you feel you personally have to protect the "face of Isaan girls", anybody came too close to you or do you just feel to write all the NorthEastern problems off your soul?
I I've been living in Isaan, too, for ages and I couldn't care less about anybody's squandering same as I don't care if somebody has a low opinion of e.g. Swiss girls

Has anyone had similar issues and if so how was it resolved?
I have a 2016 Fortuner 4x4 and experienced "no- shift" of the auto twice: The gearbox just stays in a given gear say 4 and despite accelerating does not upshift to any higher gear, the up/down paddles do not work at that time. My solution: Stop, switch off, start again - no problem

such a heart-breaking story told at length; the only valid guide-line for me has always been: Never stop in Th. for anything along the road- side. I even don't stop in the middle of nowhere if I see two fancy police buggers with some shabby Toyota "police" pickup who put up a traffic check point

I come and go as I like, no re-entry permits, no 90 day reporting, no BS fines. Why can't Thailand do this ....?
the Phillies - not afraid of anybody anymore - already have their full load of terrorists, international gangsters etc., Thailand still tries to keep them out of the country or under control (= bestowe them with higher positions...)

< travel in small groups who prefer to travel privately >
this way of moving about still does not imply a grossly increased spending character. Moreover, "small groups", "privately" etc. automatically implies it is just a handful of people; revenues can be siphoned off much more easily coz you got the guys fully under your control...!

the BiB interviewed me 6 yrs. ago already (found me in the sticks east of Khorat), no problem at that time, all docs handy and o.k.

A car from China? From the photo, the front passenger should be the one with serious injuries, and not the driver.
nobody knows what the driver did on the passenger seat (lady?) at the time of impact

For foreigners it's ... the sea.you say that again...frankly: I never even thought about "the sea" being there, it more resembles a huge dump of oily, dirty waste water with all kinds of plastic garbage...this together with the "sumptious, inviting" beach (width 4 yds or so)

Survey, gather intelligence and then arrest. On the basis of evidence, not skin colour
miraculously, the skin colour often goes together with the "evidence": Espec. in Lower Suk the look of these dark figures cries "evidence" already...
