Bangkok and neighbouring provinces are at risk of being swamped as sea levels rise, according to warnings at the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change meeting. The capital rests about 3½ to 5 feet above the nearby gulf, although some areas already lie below sea level. The gulf's waters have been rising by about a tenth of an inch a year. But the city, built on clay rather than bedrock, has also been sinking at a far faster pace of up to 4 inches annually as its population and factories pump some 2.5 million cubic tons of water out of its aquifers. This compacts the layers of clay and causes the land to sink. The capital could be under the sea as early as 15-20 years. These pictures were taken at Samut Prakan this morning as high tide flooded the city center. There has been no rain for the last several weeks. (Richard Barrow/ThaiPhotoBlogs.com)

  2. Well perhaps they can have it at gov't house. Or maybe at the airport--either one seems to be fair game for large gatherings.

They were originally planning to hold it at Din Daeng, and instead of candles would light a few buses and an LPG tanker. However, Thaksin refused that offer as that's a red shirt Songkhran celebration. He wants something special for his birthday.

  3. It's not good to wash it so often, the natural build op protection layer of the hair is gone then. You can notice yourself if you don't wash your hair for a few days, it gits greasy. Just wash it, but not so many as she does.

And what she eat is also important. Can you describe?

  4. Used the Embassy twice.

    Smooth as silk.

Used the Consulate several times in Chiang Mai.

    Same.

Bitchin' and moaning at them will only make your time spent there harder...

You're dealing with a government enity and if you've ever spent time in the US military, it's second nature..kinda like all the Brits and the standing in line thangy.

One time in CM I encountered a very angry man outside. " I'm retired US Army, they can't treat me like this" he complained to me in a scream..then he put his old graggy face up to the window slot where the Thai security guards were.."Hey dip shit, I'm a veteran and a American citizen and I demand to see the man in charge!!" " I demand it NOW!!"

Not to my amazment, he was still standing outside when I and the wife left..30 minutes later.

    That's right, second that.

  5. I like the normalcy of unusual stuff:

75 year old men with 25 year old wives who get along better than most young couples.

Any local with a folding table, two folding chairs, six Changs, and an empty patch of sidewalk can open his own bar.

I guy with enough empty whiskey bottles can open his own gas station.

They way people drive on the left side of the road, unless where they want to go is in the other direction.

Regardless of how old I get in Canada, I know I'll always be hansum in Thailand. :D

    I like it :)

  6. I'm sorry to say, but the way " Thai people" are teached is how they become. I find a Thai raised in a "Western country" much more respectfull and understandable, without all that silly "Thai family traditions " . But that's MY opinion, and I can't change a countries behaviour, so I just have to except it, and keep it with myself, at least not talk about it in public, this forum is a good place to blow of some steam.

  7. It's an automatic I see.

Transmission: check the roller weights for wear, and the v-belt.

Engine: every 5000 km check the valve settings ( play )

and change the oil 10w30 is fine.

NO need to change the gear oil ever. Only if there are leaks.

And most important -> check the brakes.
