  1. It's a matter of scale. In Jontien Long stay there are far less people than in View Talay 1 and they have just "fixed" the poor performance.

It is acceptable now but is nowhere near the speeds you would get in, say, a guesthouse with a dozen rooms or so.

In simple terms, WiFi does not scale well. If you can, I would recommend getting a cable connection(I think one of the view talays has this option)

  2. It's dead quiet there now. The biggest problem is that you need to take a relatively long and somewhat dangerous trip on Sukumvit to get there. And they are VERY hesitant to open anything that looks like a girlie bar. I can't see Bang Saray becoming the next Pattaya. Even ten years ago, Jomtien was livelier.

But if I see a direct baht bus (not a a taxi)from Walking street to Bang Saray then the game is over.

  3. This is not unique to Thailand though I agree that the media is quite irresponsible.

You should hear how badly foreigners pronounce Korean place names (HAE UN DAE not "Hyundie"!)

Asian languages are completely unrelated to English so perhaps this is natural.

  4. It's probably too late to say don't do it.

You can always find a doctor to support some crazy theory.

In Korea there was one I thought was normal until he told me that "quantum healing" was an established scientific fact :(

ENTs at hospitals are really really good. Try them.

  5. Western countries have civilised and regulated mass transit systems. Thailand doesn't. It has some cranky old crack head guys driving old pickups around so poor people can get from A to B. If you are concerned about your safety why not buy a cheap car? If you have an accident while sitting unrestrained in the back of a pickup you are in for a world of hurt.

Err.. Pattay doesn't. Bangkok does. In fact Bangkok has an incredible array of transport options - from BTS to Taxis that play fair to walking on an elevated sidewalk.

But outside of Bangkok you are correct.

Singapore is supposed to be good too.

  6. You don't have to go that far...no Russians on the dark side, thankfully.

You must have your eyes closed. Or maybe it's just so dark on the darkside that you cant see them even with your eyes open. I see plenty of them there and I only cross Sukumvit once a week for Sunday lunch and to get my car washed.

When you look at the dark side, careful you must be. For the dark side looks back.

    Huh...?

Based on the last part of the following quotation(original is in German) from the great philosopher Nietzsche:

"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you. " Friedrich Nietzsche

  7. First time I was in Vientienne 10 years ago, there was an "underground"(literally) karoeoke where you could talk to and "date" the girls if you wanted. Last trip a year ago there was no sign of it so perhaps the government has clamped down.

My feeling was - and it is just a feeling - is that the government tries really hard to keep Laos as a backpacker only country...

    What do you think?

  8. CoffeBean recently changed their "English Breakfast Tea" so that it has become undrinakble. Its like gnats urine and when you add milk its like milky gnats urine.

If CoffeBean learn that English Breakfast Tea is supposed to be dark and strong so that after milk is added it has a lovely light tan colour then I will be back. Until then I will continue to go to Starbucks and Pacific Coffee.

    Apart from "Coffee Bean"

Where can "Gnats urine" be bought

I feel it is only fair to make a true comparison biggrin.png

Yes, I get your point, gants urine isn't an easy thing to compare to and its hard to buy. But I would say everything in my post remains valid if I change from gnats urine to monkey piss. Their English Breakfast Tea is like monkey piss.

    Is that okay with you?

Ah, so it's like Chang Export then!

  9. In fact there are two buildings in our apartment/hotel. In my building they are chain linked. In the other I think they are too.

    So probably two chains.

In my building, only the main access point seems to work so if you are not on that floor the signal will be weak or unusable. In the other, the lobby was working until about 3 weeks ago and then stopped (the triangle thing across the 5 bars appeared)

  10. Thanks, I'll try it but I doubt it will work as manual gateway configuration (196.168.2.1 etc) does not work either as a gateway or a DNS server. It usually means there is a deeper problem.

    Hi BugJackBaron!

You might want to show them this first: Google Public DNS, it is quite is easy to follow, but this link is in English. Good luck. If it works for them they may love you more. smile.png

  11. targeted in lasted anti-drug campaign

Am I the only one curious about the lasted anti-drug campaign.

    How long has it lasted?

Will it last longer than the press release takes to read?

Is this the latest tactic in the war on English language and drugs?

You beat me to it! Is it so difficult to come up with "lasting" or "long-lasting"? Do they get google translate to make their headlines?

  12. I am posting this on behalf of my apartment in Jomtien. Despite have 6 floors with 2 routers on most floors, there is only one working router in the whole place. It seems to be a DNS problem and they are looking for an affordable solution(True apparently quoted some astronomical price). The most important one to get working is the front lobby.

So this job would be suitable for a Thai or Thai-speaking(strongly recommended) farang who would be willing to negotiate a price with the supervior

If you think you have what it takes, DO NOT CONTACT ME but call Noi at the front desk at 038-251606 or 038-251607. She is usually there after 3pm.

Thanks in advance for your interest,

  13. I second the Fat Boy choice in Cambodia. The owner of one of the shops told me it would be impossible to do it Thailand - too much greed and corruption.

For Thailand the closest I have seen to good is at the deli counter in the Landmark Hotel in Nana Bangkok. Indian owner I think.

The Bangkok bakery is not too bad either. Chiang Mai probably has some good choices too.

  14. An interesting approach is not to go all or nothing but try a moderate route. For example, draft beer is poison - subsitutie with a glass of red wine for health benefits and a mild buzz.

  15. I would only consider a condo on a high floor there As well as any place else for security There have been some bad home invasions of foreigners in Bang Sarey

What does the height have to do with it? BTW Best security I have ever seen is at Royal cliff garden condo but I doubt they have that in Bang Sarey.

  16. It really is strange that there is only one supermarket here despite the enormous growth in the area. Not to mention the fact that chains such as Starbucks or McDonalds seem afraid of the place.

Maybe they are afraid of the Russians and no money to be earned.

Sent from my SM-P601 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I see Russians at Burger King in Central all the time.
