  1. Maybe this i worth a separate thread but if I were to take up

motorbiking again I would seriously consider the new Tricity scooters from Yamaha. They basically have two wheels in the front

and are a LOT more stable.

I heard they were just introduced to Pattaya and go for around 70,000 B

Google em! Ah, they are already being discussed in the motorbike forum.

  2. LOL, you guys pay four times what I do for a breakfast buffet.

Breakfast, lunch 180 baht (I get 20 percent discount on that for being me)  at Prajactra Hotel in Udon

Dinner for the same price at the Napolai

Centrum Hotel  300 lunch... cannot be beat.

I'm glad to hear that there is a good buffet in Udon , cause the stuff near day/night and Robinson is mediocre at best.

  3. The DJ on 103 was actually a member of the 70s band brotherhood of man, still plays at several bars around town and is IMO very good. The girl who does Pattaya party patrol has the worst accent i ever heard on any radio station

    .

I thought there were two girls in the party patrol.

I guess you mean the Thai girl and not the airhe,,, err blonde Megan (who is quite hot)

  4. Even worse, whenever a new business opens in Jomtien it is now either

    a real-estate office or a massage parlor .

Many restaurants and bars for sale or closing now. Rumpo complex is a disaster.

40B khow paht gai at the market gets you a few pieces of chicken in oily rice.

Wine at Robin Hood now up to 95 Baht a glass; 3 years ago it was 60!. Still a good bar though.

The girl by the whirlpool is looking for a new fool..don't foul leaders/ watch your parking meters (Dylan)

  5. On beach road there is a nice bar with live music and bear is around 60-70.

That's disgusting and a bear could kill you with one swipe if you're not careful.

Big spenders in here tonight arguing the toss over 55 baht beer or the mind-boggling price of 80. Or throw caution to the wind and shell out a whopping 150 baht for a cold one.

I'm willing to accept 250+ baht a drink to avoid half of you lot. The higher charge keeps most of the riffraff away.

Bet you're a bundle of joy out on the lash.............

What draws that conclusion? I am a generous individual and you won't find me bemoaning the price of a beer. I prefer to spend my time socialising.

Am I not allowed to avoid falangs that worry about a +/- 5 baht difference in the price of a beer.

Drink at home if it's that important.

Of course you are. You are "generous" but not enough to buy a cheap-Charlie a drink or even sit at the same table, is that it? Not all of us have tourist incomes and inflation is a real concern.

So go drink in Bali Hai with the 300B beers and "quality" Russian hostesses. Someone has to do it.

  6. Violent night. Around midnight there was another shooting - this one just 50m from the gogo bar in Jomtien.

Victim on motorbike quite dead with a bullet hole in the head visible. Not sure if the two stories

    are connected.

    this one? http://www.pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/127081/thai-american-killed-in-jomtien-road-accident/

No. This was a shooting in front of Jontien Beach road. I don't see any official report yet.

  7. I had an enjoyable trip over Songkran in and near Udon Thani but I noticed some changes since my last visit 3 years ago.

Development has led to a mediocre but expensive breakfast buffet being offered at the biggest hotel next to Central. My friend who lives in a farm nearby also noted the decline in quality.

Cheap hotels that were clean and decent 3 years ago are now decaying backpacker holes.

Many more Thais homeless on the streets. Some looked like they never had a job but others....

It's not the sexpats or hippy backpackers that are ruining the place but big business. However, Udon still has some charm and life left.

I'm not going to mention the other Isaan city that is still low-key and has great value-for money in food and accommodation.

  8.

The Curry Hut, Jontiem to the side of Rumpo Market is very nice.

The prices and lack of clientèle there put me off, as they do in every Indian restaurant in Thailand. Always empty, always overpriced. Will they ever learn?

I have tried their "special" for about 200 Baht. Rice, Nan and a few small pieces  of chicken in a curry.

A total rip-off as you will need to order more unless you just want a snack.  I would say  you would get more chicken from

a 40 B plate of Khow Mon Ghuy in the market.

I have also tried their mutton whuch  was old and tough.

There WAS a better  Indian restaurant up the same side a couple of years ago but nobody wanted to pay the

300 B or so for a half decent meal so they closed.

  9. Hey everyone. I Haven't been to Chiang Mai in many years but when I was there as a tourist there was an interesting Vegetarian / Juice place and health food store just in the inner city across from a bookstore I think. Some vegetarian women ran it. Is it still there?

What about places like we have here - believe it or not - that offer "detox" juice treatments at expensive prices ? Or in nearby Pai?

I am not talking about junk vegetarian stuff here like noodles and other carbs but healthy alternatives like eggplant , goat milk and other, unfortunately more expensive, options.

    Cheers.

  10. This thread has become very boring for the vast majority of readers, I suspect.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

But the food is great. And it's about damn good food. thumbsup.gif

Well, in Pattaya we have lively, witty, fearless and interesting threads and posters on Thaivisa :) . Unfortunately , the 2 or 3 German restaurants

that were here 10 years ago have long gone and most of the food now sucks.

  11. There aint a decent Indian curry in Pattaya or many parts of Thailand...after wasting much money on overpriced rubbish...with the exception of a few times then the chef changes....I refuse to waste another ruppee on crap that I or my wife can cook ten times better at a fraction of the cost than these supposedly Indian restaurants can. Take my advice get the cheap train or an Air Asia flight to Penang and get a tikka masala, rice and fresh naan from a clay oven for 9 Rinngetts (85 Baht)..best in the world, great portions, cheap and worth the trip. Heard there is yet another indian opening in Bang Saray...certainly wont be bothering travelling to try that as can gaurantee it will be cooked muck.

I would add that even Siam Reap had a good and cheap Indian place. You could smell it was good from outside.

You said "many parts of Thailand": Is there anything good in Chiang Mai?  The standards there are somewhat better than here.

  12. We have a problem then. THERE IS NO MENTION OF 7 PERCENT ADDED VALUE TAX anywhere in the menu. But I sure got it added to my bill today. To be sure, I double checked with the waitress who understood and seemed embarrassed and when asked said "the boss said to do it".

This is unethical and possibly illegal - even in Thailand.

And you paid the extra even though it was not indicated anywhere that it would be added to the menu price? In your shoes I would have refused point-blank to pay a satang more than the price indicated on the menu.

Legally I am sure I could have but I didn't want to get the waitresses in trouble(they were kinda cute).

  13. Why not include the 7% vat in the menu price?

Because not including it makes the menu prices appear to be lower than they really are, thus possibly deceiving the uninformed into eating there. Is that dishonest? Of course it is.

The same applies to any obligatory charge/tax/addition.

Absolutely and completely rediculous! Provided that it is clearly and conspicuously stated that a charge of 7% for VAT will be added to the check there is nothing dishonest (or unethical) about showing prices in the menu that do not include VAT. Anyone except the mentally infirm can calculate and add the approximate VAT charge mentally before deciding to eat in a restaurant that does not include VAT in the menu prices and when deciding what to order. All that is required is that diners be told clearly in advance that VAT is not included in the prices shown -- full stop. And, in the worst case, we're talking about an additional 7%, which is hardly the basis for deciding to eat in a particular restaurant or not. On a B1000 bill, the bill would be increased by B70 due to VAT -- if you are that easily deceived or that concerned about paying an additional 7% if you fail to notice the warning about VAT being added, you should not be eating in restaurants. If I was a restauranteur, I would want my customers to know how much I was charging for a meal and not have that inflated by VAT -- let them see clearly and separately the government's take. In the US, sales tax is always added to the price at the time of sale, it is never included in the price, as it should be -- it is too easy to forget/ignore the effect of tax on purchases when it is buried in the price. It should always be separate so we see and remember that the government's hand is always in our pocket.

I do object to a restaurant taking what should be a discretionary charge (a tip or service charge) and making it obligatory -- that, IMHO, is wrong and defeats the purpose of the "tip" -- to motivate good service. I try to avoid restaurants that do that, but in every case the amount added to the bill is netted out of what I would have left as a tip. The problem comes, of course, when service is poor and I would not have left a tip or I would have left a tip of less than 10% (assuming that is what they add to the bill). And there have been a few occasions where i did not notice that a service charge was included in the bill and left a generous tip -- my mistake, I can live with it. It is in my view, a bad business management technique, but dishonest? As long as I am told up front that a service charge of x% will be added to the bill, absolutely not. You really do need to grow up.....

I added the emphasis- hope that does not violate rules.

I will not review the meal I had because of this. This bugs Jack Baron!

  14. The first week of May is vacation season for many Russians and temperature in Dzalinda Siberia is still just -11C.

Therefore I wouldn't expect an exodus of Russians until at least mid-May.

In agreement with the observations of previous posters, Jomtien Beach Condo

is still full of Russians. I observed this by the swimming pool yesterday.

And it took 2 hours to go and come back by Baht bus to Foodland . Horrendous traffic.

    No relief yet.
