Lift plummets from 32nd to 15th floor in Bangkok condo (video)
Gaccha replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Right. I read an article A few months back on all the typical safety mechanisms. Reassuringly two of the safety mechanisms were not electronically dependant. In addition to the counterweight that you mentioned, the sheer air resistance in such a tight space would have dramatically slowed the lift down as it reached the ground and it would have just plopped to the bottom. Although terrifying almost certainly it would not be causing any injuries. In any event, there are typically giant springs at the bottom for the lift to bounce on. -
George, I was baffled. I could't see any RSS icon or anything else. The bottom of the forum and any forum or even the home page looks like this: But I forced my mobile into desktop mode and found it. Thanks!

I'm confused. Does anyone have the feed location? The App I use can't detect any feed but if I have its precise address then that should help.

@george Any progress on this?.....

I'm sure they are linked,I did a online report 20 days prior to my new report date window,it was rejected for being outside of the 15 day window. I'm inferring from what you wrote they established you were attempting the notification earlier than 75 days after entering the country. But that is very unlikely to be the case. All people who were excessively beyond the notification time receive a notice from the immigration office saying that after a trip abroad then notification must be done in person (you will see several examples of the exact wording above. It is the notice I received.). It is more likely that they simply looked at your notification attempt and assumed you were on your old schedule. The reason I think this is because they will automatically reject your notification if it is an attempt after re-entering the country, so logically they have no reason to reject your notification for any other reason, such as being outside the notification period. But then again logic is not their first priority. And neither of us really know how the mechanism works. The only thing I know for certain is that the 90 days notification is not linked to the visa extension data nor is it linked to passport number changes despite being in the same office (the Immigration Officer told me this). So I find it difficult to believe it is linked to some remote border entrypoint.

They've changed the rule. I discovered this several months ago (see my shock discovery a couple of pages back). I was forced to attend in person. I spoke to the Immigration Officer and she said the rule was deeply unpopular (the rule change was early this year and came from the top). There are now massive lines at Chaeng Wattana when previously you could turn up with just a dozen or so in front of you. The change is because presumably the old regime effectively made it impossible to track foreigners'residence, since it was always possible that the lack of notification was due to exiting and re-entering the country. Clearly, this lacuna in the tools for tracking foreigners could have been filled by coordination of Immigration entrypoints data being linked to Immigration's 90 day procedure, but that would require work on their part (every border, including little rural ones, would need new computer software and training). It is far easier to lay the extra work on us...

Thailand Advances Toward Legalising Casinos to Boost Tourism
Gaccha replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One of the major reasons for these casinos was to put an end to the underground casinos across Thailand. But since the plan is to severely limit Thai access to only those with large enough bank accounts so the underground casinos will continue. Which means the corruption will continue; think of all those "unusually wealthy" police officers. -
This is an obscure one. The "original poster" of a thread in an internet forum is called the OP. The Thai is clearly an initialism but what do the initials stand for?

Outrage Sparked in Thailand Over Apple's 'Out of Office' Advert
Gaccha replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There is a comment on a famous forum for Thais (written in Thai but I've translated it) which is a nice retort/addition to this. "Don't worry too much, it's fun to watch, it's hilarious to watch. Nowadays, foreigners are not stupid enough to watch advertisements and imagine that Thailand will be like this. Most apple users know how to search for information on the internet. Our country is not as small as a barbaric forest country. There is a huge amount of information about the country. And we are one of the top countries that foreigners even want to visit" -
It's always so cute watching Americans take seriously the propaganda that the latest election is always the most important election ever. "No, no... But this time it really is..." Ok. You sweet summer child. Every Republican candidate since the end of World war II has been called fascist. Every administration since World war II has been neoliberal, right-wing and imperialist. Despite the incredibly irresponsible denunciations of Trump as "literally Hitler" by senior Democrat Party members, as soon as Trump's ear was scratched, they turned on a dime and spoke of unity. They don't believe any of the silly political kabuki theatre. When Trump just slightly hinted at the fairly bland idea of isolationism for America then the entire establishment turned on him. Only one policy is acceptable. Trump now knows this. Trump has dropped all the crazy and fun rhetoric from 2015. No more talk of building walls and no more talk of Mexico paying for them. No talk of a Deep State. And in case you didn't notice the overwhelming signs of complete capitulation and moderation, an insistent and repeated disavowal of the Heritage Foundation's 'project 2025'. His language now is pure tedious moderation. Whichever party wins it will be remarkably similar to what every other party has done in government in the last 20 years. But you are spoonfed an exciting diet of Boomer News to give you that emotional catharsis that you matter, that every vote counts, that you live in a country where you choose your government. So that after you vote you can go back to your state of blissful ignorance. Good night America and good luck.

UK passport waiting time.
Gaccha replied to baneko's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did it in October (at Trendy). It took 9 days (!) from the moment I handed over my old passport to the moment I was notified the new one had arrived for collection. -
The western section of the Orange Line has an update of sorts. The location for the planned Siriraj stop is inside on the lower floors of a planned new hospital building on the exact spot of the old Thonburi railway station from 15 years ago. Until 2 weeks ago this land was simply being used as a car park as can be seen in this Wikipedia photo: But it has just recently been cordoned off by a high metal fence. On the fence, the building plans are posted. It would be reasonable to speculate that the construction will commence soon.

Recurring bouts of high fever with no other symptoms.
Gaccha replied to how241's topic in Health and Medicine
I'm in disbelief. You obviously did not read the link that I provided to the gold standard of medical care. "People who have any warning signs should see a doctor right away. Such people typically need immediate testing and often admission to a hospital. People without warning signs should call the doctor if the fever lasts more than 24 to 48 hours." You have long surpassed 48 hours so you should already have seen the doctor. One warning sign is a fever of 40° C. You were 0.2° C short of that. You should treat your case as urgent. The fact that you are old complicates matters, and there is a special section in the link I've provided to tell you more. -

If you want to know the full extent of possible reasons, especially the unusual ones that are not detected at any future preliminary screening then read this Merck medical manual link; this is the gold standard. Doctor's often use the Professional version. -
Nobody makes phone calls nowadays; that's just a boomer thing. An online chat is much better because the evidence of the parties' interactions is clearly laid out, and it's very easy to minimise disputes, simplify matters, reward good businesses, and punish bad customers etc.

I'm not sure if you are a scholar of history, but the link I provided is a response to the very attack by the dancing monkeys of the American government that you quote, and he still in that response dismantles the Swedish case. But you would have known that when you copy and pasted the Wikipedia article. Instead of writing scurrilous apologetics for the CIA, I recommend reading his book published in 2022 which utterly demolishes any suggestion that Sweden was interested in the rule of law or justice.

Violence Erupts Outside LA Synagogue Amid Clashes & Attacks on Jews
Gaccha replied to Social Media's topic in World News
At the land sale meeting at the synagogue, one piece of land was in the illegally occupied West Bank. This is a remarkable provocation. Assisting in the occupation of territory illegally occupied under international law and doing so, so brazenly in a time of war, where Israel has destroyed vast swathes of Gaza, is truly bad taste. But more important than bad taste, Israeli civilians in the West Bank are occupiers, and it is part of Israeli military policy to use Israeli citizens to assist in the occupation. This means they can be designated as military targets. Obviously synagogues, in contrast to churches, are more like community halls rather than simply places of worship*. So a land sale meeting there is not particularly surprising. *For the less sharp readers among you, of course I recognise that synagogues have worship in them. -
Hopefully buys him a bottle of champagne. How can you possibly be a "traitor" when he is not an American citizen and not part of any military or an alliance network related to America... The sheer arrogance of Americans to pin this label on him makes them all the more revolting.

This is genuinely fantastic news. The sheer malevolence and cruelty of the American Empire was displayed in the treatment of this man. He simply showed the world who America is, and America did not like it. Americans have been subjected to years and years of propaganda against Assange, so they will recoil at this news. For everyone else, this is the day where freedom of speech has actually triumphed.
