"Army must always stay neutral in politics while continuing to maintain peace and social order"
I thought that was the Police job.
Errr, well, I mean in other countries, where police actually *does* something.
Then , still in other countries, do we have the army's top brass showing their faces and commenting on politics each time people protest ? Like when the 'occupy wall street' movement camped for weeks in NY, same in Spain and other EU countries, did army commanders keep coming to reassure the electorate there will not be a coup d'etat ?
Thailand does have different ways to deal with politics obviously, not even mentioning *maintaining peace and order*...

About som tam : it's not really down to how often you eat it, but more to how much chili you like to have in it !

Seems like it's not office time yet in the west : we haven't seen all these new accounts red shirts supporters rushing here to flood us with their bs.
Always a problem when you hire PR from a different time zone and don't want to pay for extra hours.

Sad story.
These Burmese workers go through so much hardship, harassment and abuse, mistreatment and scams, whether in their own country or here in Thailand. Their misery is so great that 200B become such an issue as to cost a life.
We will not know here why they were so important to that Mr Than, who will now end up in jail for more abuse.

in fact I am sure the whole thing is about getting me to buy the land.
Light sometimes finds it hard to make its way to dark places.
First thing people do here when they buy land is land-fill it and fence it off with a tall concrete wall. Serves no purpose most of the times, its just a cultural thing.
-
Should have bought that land
Nothing you can do now...
I 'liked' that message, not because I like the content of it, but because the content of it is unfortunately true.
He bought the land and therefore can do whatever he wants (within limits of the law) with it, including building a wall. As it's been said, if you liked that view you should have taken preventive measures, now it's *way* too late.
Btw, the title of your thread is misleading : your neighbor doesn't build that wall to either bother you or extort money. I don't know where you could get these ideas from. He's fencing his land just like everyone does here. It's in the culture, be it right or wrong to do so.

I'm supposed to go to Bangkok on thursday and stay there for 4 nights. Should I be worried and cancel my trip? I'll lose substantial sum of money but if its not safe then I would have to do it. How bad is it really?
So far so good. Hard to see what it will be like a few days from here, may I suggest you ask a Thai relation for a good predictor ?

No sign of M39 grenade launchers yet ?

the plants are hanging upside down as they are meant to give more fruit that way and the branches need less support.
Wow. I'd be curious to see that, any pictures please ?

Hi Guys,
Need to renew the Thai wife Non-O 1year visa in a few months.
1- My wife knows this officer in Bkk immigration, and he said I just need to show 400.000 bahts on my account for 2 months prior to visa renewal. Wasn't it 3 months ?
2- is joint account acceptable (with my parents), or only in my name ?

a bit of a ridiculous poll :
Spending so much time at school everyday, what else can these kids say ?The survey of Thai youth aged between 9 and 18-years-old in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Chon Buri and Songkhla found that 30.8 percent of respondents said schools, universities and and academies were a major source of drugs .It's not as if knowledgeable people did answer the question . . .

^^ Ooops, my mistake. Of course they can't stand limestone, so no *alkaline soils for them, and preferably rainwater (not stored in concrete tank) ...
-
^ these will not grow here : too hot.
Teak trees cannot be "trained out into radial 'arms' like a parasol".
Check these :
Delonix regia (light shadow ; medium to large size)
Albizia saman (deep shadow ; large size)
How big in m2 is the area you'd like to cover ? Now many floors is your house ?
-
^ careful with the Ph, these can't stand acidic soil at all (no limestone ; avoid tap water)
US judge rules NSA mass phone surveillance programme to be 'unconstitutional'

Has NSA ever cared all that much about trivial things like laws or constitution ?
NSA could find insightful inspiration from the Thai way to do things : Mai Pen Rai, business goes on as usual.
Would be a golden chance for YL to take the microphone and share the most efficient Thai ways with the world. A bit like what she did during the Democracy forrum in Mongolia...
