  1. How did they find about the extra retail space that they weren't paying rent for?

It came to light when Swampy opened and there weren't enough restrooms to go around. The architects checked the drawings and discovered that there are indeed more restrooms on the blueprints than existed on opening date in the airport.

Further investigation revealed that King Power had built over the front of the entrances to many restrooms to get more retail space. Making money on the backs of poor bladder-bursting passengers who've just deplaned.

    Busted!

    That's 'beautiful' :)

  2. Meanwhile the Indonesian Ministry of Environment said it would not hesitate to arrest the perpetrators of forest and land fires and sent them to prison after the issuance of a new environment law in September, Antara news agency reported.

Its Minister Rachmat Witoelar said the new law, which would be effective from September 8, would give the authority to coordinate with other relevant authorities to arrest those who burn forests and land bushes.

He said his office would directly fix police lines at the areas affected by fires and handcuff the perpetrators before imposing jail sentences upon them.

    It's about time ! There's almost nothing left :)

It's also about time they do it in Thailand too ! What are they waiting for ? That nothing's left out of the National Parks ?

  3. Nepalese caught smuggling heroin

A Nepalese man was arrested Monday for trying to smuggle a kilogram of heroin to Bangkok from Chiang Rai. Following a tip-off in Mae Chan district, a police checkpoint on Mae Chan-Khew Phrao-Tha Khaopleuk road stopped a suspicious looking pickup truck, and arrested the passenger, 22-year-old Dijai Kumar, and the Thai driver, 44-year-old Chatree Sribanprod. Kumar's sandals were found filled with bars of heroin.

Investigators discovered that Kumar had picked up the heroin bars in front of the Mae Chan supermarket and modified a pair of new sandals to accommodate them. He then had Chatree drive him to Chiang Rai Airport for a flight to Bangkok.

These stories are so stupid it defies belief.

You want to smuggle heroin and you actively search to get on an aeroplane??????????? :)

He clearly was used as a decoy : given the plane ticket while the cops were being tipped out.

22 years, poor guy. What will Thai jails make out of him ? :D

  4. @Zzaa & PaddyThai : got that right. I enjoy being on my own, it's just that too much is just too much. I'm fine with locals, but just not enough occasions to meet, and language still a limitation. Getting better, but still a long way to go. The thing is just that for such a big city, there really isn't a thing to do in KK.

@Dave : a bit busy, and going to Europe for some time, but will probably give it a try when coming back

@MJP : a bit busy, and going to Europe for some time, but I keep it in mind to give it a try when coming back :)

    Cheers all :D

  5. A lot of wishfull thinking : it's impossible in such a short time-span.

BUT, it is now on the table, by the PM from a major country in the Asean, and THAT is a good start. It's also a good way to put the pressure on Burma, smooth Thai style.

I just wonder how to link this statement with the "temple situation" with Cambodia. Unconditionnal surrender by Cambodia ? :)

  6. Wait till there is a fire and see what happens. Look at LA and of course OZ when they get alight.

Great if you have a couple of Koalas !!!!

You get roasted koalas ! :)

Jokes aside, the article quotes the officials a basically saying that eucalyptus is good for economy, but didn't give any other fact that would counter balance the disatrous side effects mentionned at the beginning of the article. Basically : short term money is better than long term healthy land.

Back in France, I remember following a debate after Spain had decided to plant eucalyptuses on a large scale in dry areas. The outome of the debate was not in favor of doing so.

I personally enjoy seing a few of them here and there, as their trunks look stunning when they get old, but find it depressing when seing parcels of land covered with the thing. I wouldn't plant any.

  7. indeed, but if you get at the airport at midnight, it could be a bit short to get the last one in Mor-Chit. Especially without a pre-booked ticket (i don't think they offer the service).

The good thing is that they leave from Mor-Chit 10-15 minutes late on their schedule. I managed to get mine a few times this way, even though I was late ! ^^

01:30 should be the very last one.

  8. thanks for this! i wanna check out this bar, but would anyone know how to get here from BTS? and would rain dogs have any gigs on saturday nights too? :)

Seems the best of times to check the place up. Might go there as well, btu haven't been out for so long, that I feel a bit shy to get there by myself.

Could pick you up on my motorcycle if you're not too far ! :D

PM me tomorrow if you wish :D

  10. to come back to the topic :

Would anybody have more info regarding legal alcohol (not only whiskey) production ?

For instance, is there any notion of the quantity produced before regulations applied ? Just wondering if it was autorized to make some for yourself as a hobby.

Back in France, we used to make some plum or pear alcohol on the good yielding years. I wonder what it'd be like to try it with pinaples, papayas, or whatever ... I'm experimenting with making jam now, using these wonderfull fruits, and the result is just fantastic !

Is making a bit for your own forbidden ?

If so, is there a place where we could bring fruits to be processed for a fee ?

Note: pls, don't delete the whole thing if I stepped out of the forum rules : send me a PM and I'll edit . . .

  11. King Power is a disgrace to Thailand. Thailand should sack King Power, and allow DFS of Singapore to run Bangkok Duty Free.

While doing that, they should also sack AOT, and allow Changi to run Bangkok airport as well. How about that.

OMG, you are SO right !

This is why I came here in the first place ! :D

They should also change their government in a protocratie like in europe, change the citizens to farang citizens, and change the name of the country to Ameriland. :D

    :)

  12. @Falcon : when one doesn't know what he's talking about, he'd better not make so much noise. There IS a seaside in Bangkok, and a nice occasiob for a day trip in the mangrove forest.

I doubt it's what the OP's got in mind, though. Not too many accomodations there.

  13. Sounds like the Korean movie with Thai dubbing that we saw about the same time. Some subtitles in English. Fuzzed out photos of ten inch erection in his pants.

sorry, but not my kind of movies. I'm not talkin about a gonzo.

I'm talking about a THAI movie, with THAI actors, speaking THAI. No english subs.

It's a real movie with a SCENARIO, a PLOT, DIALOGUES, TRANSITIONS, etc etc...

I expect better from you Blondie, especially being a moderator :):D
