Rosemary does well in dry Isaan areas. I've seen european basil working really well.
I failed a coriander tryout in Bkk, but will try again with different soil

Was in Carrefour Ratchada this afternoon, but they didn't have any. So well, I got some zucchinis to cook a ratatouille to keep me waiting, and I'll find some time for the Holy Witlof Crusade later on !
Cheers all !

Oh my !
Who could imagine this humble and cheap vegetable would have to travel across the earth, doubling its farang price in the process, before reaching the Thai golden temples of consumption . . .
geeeez . . .
but well, it's a craving, and I rarely give in to them... too bad for my wallet and my carbon footprint, I'll ride across Bangkok on this holy crusade ! Hooray !
Cheers all ^^

My only question is and always has been if you have a swimming pool, and do as per link, you could never convert back to swimming pool, if you needed to sell your house in years to come, which would be a selling point ? own swimming Pool, or Big fish pond.
convert it to a swimming pond, also known as natural pools

Hi Whiterussian,
Too many trees to mention here. Try to use local trees as they are tougher and require less care than 'ornamental' ones (fancy flowers types of trees). No need to buy them too big : young ones have better chances to remain healthy, and will grow faster.
I'd advise you to take care of planting the trees in the way that they provide shadow to your house, to help cool the temperature down. Then, fruits trees will always make you happy when they provide fresh tasty products fr your kitchen
Many ways to use climbing plants too, with or without kitchen use. Bamboo structures are cheap, but will not last long. Remember not to block the air-flow, also to help keep the house cool.
Hope it helps

A piss-up sure sounds good, if the date is right !

It's the Juniper Tree, or Juniperus Chinensis.
Still couldn't find any information about the white spots on the tree. Also, the lower parts of my trees are missing the needles on one side.
could you post a few zoom pictures of the white spots ? Then one of the tree in its environment ?
Might help to identify the problems

I'm impressed at how this government is finally pushing quite a few issues forward. A good thing for Thailand that things are getting a little more serious here.

^ exactly, this is a clear cut case of discrimination against hard working officials !

while about 900,000 of them are suffering from dementia or cognitive ability loss.
I guess nobody can really tell how many of the non-senior thai citizens also suffer from these illnesses...

Beach nuisances got so bad in the Philippines once that a Scots guy made himself a cardboard cut-out vulture, painted it black, and placed it next to him whenever he wanted to sunbathe in peace. I don't know how well it worked, but it was good a for a laugh.
Overpopulation plus economic decline = poverty = more touts.
You see this all over now, not just in Thailand.
How about a crackdown on having more than one baby?
How about a large tax on families with more than one baby?
How about a large tax break on families that decide not to have children?
Just some thoughts.
I'll second that.
A large tax break to these who decide to cut their genitals too.

would certainly prefer to check the news anywhere else than joining so called "social networks" that sell your private information.
There's going to be plenty news available from other sites based abroad.

theses truly are good. Won't last you too long before the consistency changes and you have to replace them, unfortunately.

My visa :
Non-O, 3 months, Multiple entries
Sorry for posting this, just a bit confused between different answers :
I have to go abroad next week, I've been reading I must go to the immigration previous to departure, and fill a special form...
Is that really so, or do I just proceed through border crossing as usual, and fill whatever forms there ?
-
They give non-O easily in Laos, with a proof of marriage, but I wouldn't try it without the bank statement.
Up to your gambling mood !
PS : They gave me mine while my bank statement was still fresh (money just arrived), if that may help...

You might want to get in touch with some of the forum's farm owners (farming forum) : their introduction would be precious to get in touch with the locals.
Living directly with the farmers (if only for a few days) would prove quite an experience...

I kinda doubt laurel would grow here : it's endemic to mediterranean climate, with very dry weather.
But if it does, let us know, I love the taste of it !
Which Tree/bush Grows High Fast?
in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
Posted
^ personaly don't have much feeling for them, but they do the job !
Now, if you need to get to 12-15m high, the fastest would be bamboo. If you have enough volume, and planting space for the roots, consider trees. Very narrow space, then go for structure + climbing plants. Lots of money, go for vertical wall and PM me
And no matter what you plant, you will have to deal with the leaves (but bamboos certainly are proficient...), and a bit of maintenance once in a while, which is not unpleasant.
