  1. Sadly this it is commonplace to be attacked like this, but it very rarely gets reported as it is generally accepted that will be done by the police.
BS : it's very rare in Bkk. even in Phuket or Samui !

much rarer than in the west, where you really must be on your guard at all times.

I feel sorry for the OP. As you said, the guy was probably high on a Ya-baa binge. Hope you'll feel better soon, and that it won't prevent you from doing things now. Don't be scared, it was just the wrong place at the wrong time, you will be ok now :)

  2. I got a Yamaha Nouvo 'Elegance', here in Bkk, and gonna reach 10 000 km with it this WE. I loved every single km done woth it ! Just an amazing little bike, that's got enough power to give you goose bumps if it's what you like . . . :)

Bought it at 3 500 km for B45 000. With your budget you can get a brand new one. You may even get a bigger 2nd hand bike if you'd prefer that.

I put mine in my wife's name, but I think you can have it in your own name. Check other threads about this (plenty info already here)

    Enjoy ! :D

  3. Now I simply plow HEAD-ON into those who are blocking the doors -- love the astonished 'how dare you' looks I get. Then bloody get out of the way!

At least I am not (YET) stooping to what one Thai-fluent friend does: in Thai, he says to them, "Did you leave the jungle yesterday, lady?!?"

no wonder the Thais can't appreciate farangs living here with this kind of morons hanging around.

    get a life.

Tell your friend to get one too.

  4. I use the train everyday, and the way Thai's just push pass you to make sure they get on before you, this kind of thing was always going to happen at some point!

Thai's are just soo ignorant at times! No manners, whatsoever!

    Hope she recovers soon!!

I guess you never tried to take public "metro" in Paris. Rush hour or not, it make the Thais seem like the gentlest people to be 'racing' for the door with.

I remember taking the bus in China, and that was just a happy but nonetheless serious pushing fight. Fists not allowed, but still, a fight.

  5. Maybe it is finally beginning to dawn on these clowns that the visitors from the EU and Australia were not so bad after all. Last year they were making pronouncements about how the asian and middle eastern tourists were going to save the tourist economy. In the process they chased off the more socially conscious western visitors. Now what do they have? Middle easterners that back home persecute and kill transgenders, but who gather in Patong to socialize with them, and asian tourists that flock together and will not leave the hotel or escorted bus tour.

Whatever the faults of the western tourist are, at least that tourist went into the Thai operated businesses, at least those tourists for the most part had some modicum of respect for the locals and at least those tourists were the ones that were bringing along parents and children. You don't see too many visitors from Japan, Korea, China or the Middle East with families do you? The only "new" group of visitors that brings along grandma and the kids are the Indians and that may have more to do with the fact that these Indians have more in common with western visitors than they do with the "other" group. Once they are alienated, they will react much like their western brethren.

for once i do agree with what you say :)

  6. Payap Thaksin makes sense here. Yes, I think the correct thing to do if they rule that he enriched his company unlawfully is to apportion the seized assets. And I'm pretty sure they will given the stakes and sensitivity.

The money he earned before becoming PM ought to be immediately returned (though I'm sure in the current political situation there would be some excuse to delay this given what Thaksin would likely do with the money).

The value of money earned through improper policy decisions (ie 'unusually rich/profitable), ought to be seized and returned to the state.

The rest of the money (ie what Shin would have nominally earned during average growth over the Thaksin administration era) should be temporarily seized until it is determined what a fair fine would be abusing his position as PM.

Taking it all away, especially that amount earned before 1999 is sure to rankle a lot of Thaksin's wealthier supports and give the UDD plenty of ammunition.

Promising to give some back, but after lengthy consideration will be a good motivation for Thaksin and the UDD to behave themselves and become more conciliatory, pending the outcome.

Of course, Thaksin will have none of this. He probably wants it ALL back and will fight politically to get an eventual repeal of the whole trial some time down the line.

The comment from Payap that assets should be returned and then the state sue Thaksin for the amount that they were allegedly deprived of is nonsense. Thaksin was PM and therefore should be held accountable.

    Meaningless blabbering.

Just seize directly the amount to repay for the public cost of his offenses. The 70 something billion will probably not be enough to cover that.

  7. practice known as the black money scam.
    lol

i'm happy to see 3 more quality afrcian tourists off the streets. i wonder why these africans get the visa on the first place. is the thai govt too much afraid that they would shout racism if denied visa, or they just want the money they bring in, no matter how dirty it is?

How do you propose the authorities differentiate the African fraudsters from general African visitors? Is there a test imposed upon those of a fairer complexion that could be used, or are you discreetly suggesting much like a bull that walks delicately in a china shop that people of colour just be excluded?

They could still do like the US immigration, and give out a form to fill :

    - do you have aids ?

    - are you a criminal ?

    - do you intend on committing a terrorist act ?

    etc, etc . . .

  8. Quote : I have enjoyed quite a number of comfortable, well-maintained buses, driven in a safe and sedate manner by experienced, skilled and considerate drivers.

    So have I.

The odds are about 1 to 5, but on a large number of trips, the number of 'comfortable, etc...' is quite high.

    Just statistics and probabilities...

Edit : to enjoy a 'safe and sedate manners' change the odds from 1 to 5, to 1 to 10.
