  1. easy : get a cop in every car, just behind the driver.

I'm not sure it will increase safety in the first place, but at 200 baht per driver mistake, they will finally make a decent living. In the meantime, that's so many wages that won't have to be withdrawn from national budget, and that can be invested in the 'hi-tech' equipment they're craving for.

Or go in the deeper pockets . . . :)

While I will let most TV members debate on whether Iran's got nuclear capacities or not, am I the only one to think that it could well be a set-up to discredit NKorea + Iran, while bringing 'face' to Thailand ?

That wouldn't surprise me the least....

  3. The global warming denial is a very interesting psychological phenomena. Imagine how few global warming skeptics there would be if the vast majority of global scientists and world leaders determined that eating a peanut everyday increased penis or breast size. They deny because it is bad news and asks them to give up stuff for vague future results, not because they really believe the vast majority of scientists and world leaders are wrong. This time China is the biggest spoiler. Note that the Chinese officials are NOT denying man made global warming. They have much more immediate concerns, the poverty of most of their people which can be helped with dirty coal energy, and the potential revolutions against their government if they can't produce more results. Therefore, they just won't go for the current deal.

From what I have seen JT, theres no denial that the world is heating up, most people agree the globe is warming, its just what is causing it that people don't agree on.

This planet of ours has been heating up and cooling down, long before we started pumping polution into the atmosphere. :)

how dumb are people not to understand that when you light a fire it actually heats its environment ? Why has man made fires throughout winters since the dawn of times ?

When the fire gets bigger, let's say like in a factory, it heats more. Doesn't it ?

When you multiply people, you increase the number of plants and factories. When you multiply factories and plants, it brings the scale further in the heating process.

What cooling does man bring in exchange ? Fridges and coolers produce even more heat with their mechanisms.

is that really so hard to understand ?

should we suggest people to leave their fingers on the stove and check whether it's heating or not ?

    stupids.

  4. Images yet? The 2 baht coin was an interesting approach resulting in changing the colour after a short while in an attempt to more easily differentiate it.

    Regards

They should renew the fun : make the 20B coin the size, shape and color of the 5B one, and the 50B coin similar to the 10B coin . . .

Then change them again after a few months, they just don't have anything else to do . ..

  5. Considering their history and fundamental differences, ANY progress is positive.

definitely still a very very long road for members to travel together. But hasn't any iconic figure, considered major in the Asean said some 2 millenia ago that :

"what is important is to travel, not to arrive" ?

    Answer :

  6. "South Korea and Thailand are aiming to become the world's premium tourism destinations by focusing on promoting themselves in creative ways and boosting the international cooperation."

I don't know South Korea, but Thailand is already promoting itself in creative ways :D

    I'll second that !

    (planting let another nail-in-the-coffin-of-the-hub-of-crackdowns-on-smiles ? :) )

Anyways, China is being foreseen as replacing France as the primary touristic destination in the world within a decade or so, but I haven't seen any report mentioning Thai or Korea moving dramatically up the ladder.... Another post-karaoke pre-sobering announcement from TAT ?

  7. Credit where credit is due, here's a move I LIKE a LOT!! It makes a lot of sense because April 16th is a Friday. So you create a larger holiday period. :D

( AND they managed to announce it in advance, instead of like the evening of the 15th to announce that 16th is a holiday. :D )

I enjoy Songkran a lot, too. BTW, a longer holiday period you can actually fill in as just that, an extended trip to Phuket or somewhere else where people don't celebrate for more than an afternoon or so.

Why all the negativity? Are you (you in general, you know who you are) really so depressed to not want to see others having a longer holiday?? Please.

i'm glad to see that even the 'reds' supporters enjoy songkhran ! :D:D:D Just hope everybody'll keep their coloured shirts in their cupboards and won't spoil it next year ! How about some nice flowered shirts with flowers garlands instead ? :D

(i didn't care much because I was in Vientiane last year, and had a helova GREAT time, but I'd like to stay in Thailand this year !) :D

    :)

  8. Why is everything a 'War Room" here???

That's clearly another nail in the coffin of the hub of the war rooms. I can feel a crackdown coming ! :)

It's sad to see that inspectors cannot (or may be should not ?) locate the leaking point. What about they just shut down the place until they locate the leak. That would surely motivate the industrials to help !

  9. "Nostalgia tourism" must surely mean older men visiting Pattaya and reminiscent about how fun it was when they meet 'Ling', 'Nan', 'Nuch', 'Noon' or any of the other girls that seemed to love them or others going to BKK and dream back to 10 years ago when going out and being able to dance all night in many different locations wasn't an unusual thing...

Well easier said than done. From my experience which started by visiting Bkk for 7 years starting in 2000 and living over here for past 3 years, Thai are trendiest people I know. Like to copy western more the any one I knew. "Nostalgia" is not what Thai like to do

I see what you mean, but kinda disagree on one point. Copying western trends doesn't make you so trendy : you just follow the creative ones. :)

Now I really sense that nostalgia in my conversations with my younger Thai friends, especially from Bkk : they understand that Thailand has been deeply changed in less than a generation, and they long to live experiences the same way than in the stories their elders tell them.

Just have to see the number of Thai movies telling kids stories in the ideal 'typical' village. Every Thai I know from the city dreams to have lived this 'perfect countryside' life, and identifies with it, even though most of them know only about concrete and TV.

  10. It would be very interesting to see what you don't blame on dear old Takki

Personally, i wouldn't blame him that much : he just hasn't reached enlightenment, like me and so many of us. 'May the one who never sinned throw the first stone'.

It's just over annoying to constantly hear in the media of his slightest moves, especially when this guy who was prime minister of an important country now behaves like a street thug. My punk friends behave with more morality than he does. I've known drug adicts with more insight. And not content with having fallen victim of guileless greed and boundless corruption, causing havoc and great misery to innocent people, Taxin doesn't seem to be willing to look at himself, and improve himself the slightest bit.

So I complain when the media keep focusing on a man who became such an un-deserving character. So much focus just prevents this guy from having time to think properly about what he became. Lets wish that he will be freed from a great burden after his money gets blocked (if it is...).

  11. The headline is a little misleading, but then I guess most headlines are. There is nothing mysterious about the death, the mystery is who did it and why.

The mystery rather lies in what will the Human Rights Commission do about it, since its board has become so controversial, and apparently ineffective.

  12. The dam_n shame is these problems were more or less eradicated world-wide with the use of DDT.

DDT was outlawed by false claims originated by a long since deceased early day enviro-wacko Rachel Carson.

Bring back widespread use of DDT in the tropics and virtually all of these diseases will be eradicated again.

Just another example of the law of unintended consequences. A bunch of well-meaning but self-righteous nuts, through disgraceful use of the courts, cause the unnecessary suffering and painful deaths of millions of fellow human beings.

    It's a travesty.

go back to your vietnam war, and have a taste of it, if you even dare :)

  13. I happen to have drunk it for some periods of times (10-15 days in a row), and i'm still here. It tastes ugly, and usually sends me running for the toilet when I start drinking it, before my stomach gets used to it after a couple of days.

But as was said, the problem comes from the pipes themselves. Better let it run for some time before drinking it, especially if the pipes in your house/building are exposed to the sun. Heat is a perfect vector for bacterii to devellop.
