Let the ladies have fun. Don't worry it is not that bad today as on sunday.

Well yes, just hope they have fun and not end stuck in floodwater. Anyway no help in trying to persuade the ladies to postpone their gathering in Phuket so they are well and truly half way to Phuket. On the plus side, I heard earlier today from a local acquaintance in Phuket that at least at that time it was fully passable on Thepkasatri road, but of course that could change either way depending on the weather!

  2. Thanks for the answers. Rain is no problem the ladies tells me because they have plans for activities other than sunbathing???????? Good that the flood waters have receded, but how is Thepkasattri from Talang to Phuket town. One of these "old charming ladies" is the driver and a Honda City is not exactly the car for "river" driving!

  3. Are there any local residents of Phuket who are in the area right now and can tell a bit about the flood situation so far today. I ask because I have a wife who has been planning to meet some friends tomorrow for a long time planned, two days midweek hotel break and I am trying to persuade them to postpone this, but as you know ladies who have made up their minds can be difficult to make change their plans????

I disagree, the beach at Hua Hin is spectacularly good, it goes forever and you can walk forever without encountering a hooker, a beach chair or a drunk.

The beach is ok for sun bathing and walking but the water is some of the worst in Thailand. Chao Praya have cleaner water.

The only thing with 2nd hand vehicles here is that there is no real consumer protection in my opinion.

The above said, if your mechanically minded or know someone who knows a little about cars, you should be fine.

I was going to buy second hand, but opted for new 7 years ago and have no regrets, what made me go new was the fact that the brother in law purchased a 2nd hand car from a (2nd hand dealer), I believe he had 3 months warranty, not sure as it was a while back as I mentioned above, anyway, blew the motor in the 4th month, didn't drive it often ust for going to the shops, looked straight and clean and had low kilometres.

Another was a guy who flew to Bangkok to pick up a year old car with low kilometres from a 2nd hand dealer, said he was saving at least 100k from buying new, all he had to do was drive it back to his place, some 10 hours.

He has had nothing but small problems with it since, took it to the dealership that makes them as his speedometer stopped working and when they looked at it, they said it was not the original, it had been replaced, so who knows how many kilometres it had, anyways when his registration was due, they were charging him for commercial use and he said no private, but the car is registered to a courier company sir, no, no it should be changed to my name by the dealer, so a few phone call later and a few days later he went back and changed it to his name and for private use to reduce the registration costs, I said courier, hmmm, they do a few kilometres don't they, so his 15,000 kilometre one year old car could have had 100,000 kilometres on it as far as he was concerned, that said, sometimes it's better to buy new, depending on your budget, but if you know of someone selling, has a good service history on the car, or know someone who knows about cars, take them along.

Only ever had 2 new cars, one here and one abroad, the rest where 2nd hand when I lived overseas, but there we have consumer protection laws, and if you change a speedometer or flip the kilometres back, you would wish you didn't, regardless, the dealer he purchased the vehicle from said he had no idea, he bought the car like that...lol

    Good luck regardless.

Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately I have little mechanical knowledge, having said that I have owned both large bikes and some cars abroad. But as you say Thailand is altogheter another story. I have actually owned 2 cars here, bought new, but what made me instead choose to rent car when I needed it instead of owning a car was at the time no possibility of garage parking and not least see my car month for month worn down by weather and wind as well as, in my opinion, by other road users and others' carelessness in relation to other people's possessions. Now things have improved somewhat in recent years, but if you are a precise and picky person... it still is ????
As for the aforementioned City, there is a relative who is "thinking maybe" to sell and buy a newer model. Only one owner/driver from new however in no rush to sell and I am in no rush to buy. But even for an 8-year-old car, I must admit it has been kept extremely well, but as this relative works in biological research, and by that drives quite a lot, so one week could be in the North and the next in the South, so the car has 130,000 km on the odometer. Is it too much, do a car start to break down when driven that milage, engine, brakes, etc.,? I don't know, but what I have offered for now is that I pay for a full check of the car at a mechanical workshop and if they don't find something that needs to be repaired and is expensive beyond normal small parts then Im still a possible buyer. If it turns out that there is a need for thorough replacement of engine parts, the brake system, or major rust damage on/under the car, I will still pay for the car inspection, but that will be it. Why Im interested in a old car well I hardly drive except one t/r south in the cooler months. I have had some rental cars for longer periods the last years and when seeing less than 200km monthly on the teller well then there are no good argumentation to buy a Thbmillion car IMO.

You could open taladrod.com and search... that's the second hand car sales site. Once you choose a car, it will show (near the bottom of the page) the price ranges of different variations and ages of that car model.

If you can't read Thai, open the page with Google Chrome and right click into a blank space, then choose Translate to English (or click on translate icon in the website address field).

Example for first car that was listed on New cars today... a Civic:

I just checked on One2Car. com Yesterday i went to Nissan to enquire on buying a new car, I have a Nissan juke that is 8yrs old and only 64,000klm, i have cared for it and love it, they offered me 170k in exchange they are being sold for over 300k bye bye nissan i won't be up-grading a new car from you. I will get rid of my old NV and give the juke to the missus to drive. Tossers.

So is what you saying that the dealer takes some 57% from the seller in profit when they sell it again????? On the other hand, but selfish thinking its maybe good to know because I have an offer on a Honda city 2013 private owned from new, want 310K so following the above room for bargaining.

Re torn meniscus, this is apparently very common -- ~40% of randomly selected men 60-69 had tears (usually asymptomatic), and about 6% more meniscal "destruction":

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2897006/

Re surgical treatment, you can track down the long-term studies -- here is a good starting point:

    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27712957/

Bottom lines are a) lots of people are walking around with torn menisci, and b) it's not clear that surgery is a win long-term if it can be avoided with more conservative treatment.

I'd think that MRI or arthroscopy (without committing to repair) would be your next step if the pain is really out of hand, and if it won't heal if given the chance (see next).

I looked into all this after what was almost certainly a meniscus tear mid-60's (from running).  Knee would not bear weight.  I prescribed myself RICE, plus Celebrex 200mg daily for a while.  Took about 6 weeks.  I did some light rehab (e.g. spinning with little or no resistance) along the way,   Seems ok now, but I power-walk rather than run, and ice and/or wear a tight knee wrap (the velcro strap kind with sewn-in side struts) at the first hint of any inflammation.

Oh -- if it helps, you can get diclofenac gel (e.g. Emulgel 1% most drugstores, or 2% via Shopee) or piroxicam gel (Neotica, also  OTC).  This is the safest NSAID route.  Otherwise, celebrex 200 appears to be safer than oral diclofenac, see e.g.

    Good luck!

HA injections can be given at any stage though benefit will be more if things have not advanced to to the point where it is just bone on bone.

The best way to get an answer specific to your situation to that is to consult a specialist. Which you will have to do anyway in order to get the injections.

Yes, I understand that I have to have a consultation with an orthopedist first and hear what he thinks. Incidentally, I found out that when it comes to PRP injections Samitivej has more reasonable prices than Bumrungrad, but so far I haven't found anything about Samitivej offering injections with Hyaluronic acid, maybe you know more about this!

But  I can't see why he is doing this.. Rather weird, isn't?

Why weird? He may be retired and probably likes to do something during the day that not only benefits him but also the neighborhood. I would love to do the same myself, but all these stories about immigration who on a bad "hairday", even for innocent simple work like mowing the lawn can get you into trouble. I live in an apartment where they keep order inside and out, but the grass cutting stops at the last centimeter of the land they own and there it is actually a sidewalk that has not been visible since the building was new. As it is now, pedestrians are directed to go out onto the road and we all know how dangerous it can be here, or through half a meter of high grass.

  11. Thanks Sheryl. Doctor fee for the injection is listed as included so are medicine (guess that is the Hyaluronic acid) and OPD facility and service charge but not doctor consultation. Listed in the package down right in the link.

Anyway I keep asking myself if a injection with either Hyaluronic acid or PRP is for me! I mean is it for they who still are relatively activ and can do regular excercise included running or is it for they who are in so much pain that this is the last stage before knee replacement!?

Do you  know approximate cost for Hyaluronic acid injection at Bumrungrad  or Samitivej?

    Felt

Sheryl. I found the price in this link https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/centers/joint-replacement-surgery-sport-medicine-center-bangkok-thailand

However maybe you can help me out with which one is most preferable of this two: Hyaluronic acid injection_Ostenil single short (3 sessions) or this: Hyaluronic acid injection_Hyruan ONE 1 Session

Do this mean that the "Hyruan" is preferable and only one session needed but cost a bit more?

    Thanks

I had a course of HA injections back in New Zealand when I had some and cartilage and bone fragments removed from my elbow, and I still wanted to play tennis, and the surgeon said at the time it was perhaps a little experimental for my condition, but it wasn't that expensive so I went ahead and had a small course of injections over a few weeks.

Well there was no pain and I was delighted with the result, so perhaps worth a try in your case?

Promising, thank yor for the reply.

As I said, the use of PRP for OA is at best experimental and many studies have failed to show benefit.

I would suggest you just get HA injection to start with rather than undergo the pain and considerab;e expense of something that may not even help.

Do you  know approximate cost for Hyaluronic acid injection at Bumrungrad  or Samitivej?
