https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SangSom ""SangSom Special Rum", as it is called on its website, is distilled from molasses. Its alcohol content is 40 percent by volume. It is aged in charred oak barrels for five years before bottling." Wonder how much this version costs here. I use the non-special version to kill insects in shoes left outside the house, and spray on gate posts to discourage the neighborhood dogs from their morning peripatetic pissathons.

Maharaj Hospital (Suan Dok) and Sriphat admin unit ... emergency room ?
orang37 replied to orang37's topic in Chiang Mai
Thanks, No Thai partner. -
I am told Sriphat has no ER; but, the main hospital, of course, does. I have had eye surgery in March through Sriphat, as well as seeing specialists for other problems. So, while my eyes are fine, other issues NOW really require emergency evaluation and treatment, possibly hospitalization. Appreciate any guidance on what happens if you go to Maharaj ER with your Sriphat id number: will they have access to all your Sriphat records, test result, etc. ? Any other comments on other hospital's ER units very appreciated ! thanks !

After successful eye surgery, yours truly had some bone-cracking falls, and I am housebound. I am interested in knowing of any resources. I live in the Nong Hoi area. Usually, I buy all my food at Rimping Nawarat, and Talat San Phak Koi, and Makro. thanks ! p.s. I used to buy a Chineses made expectorant in the 7/11 or pharmacy useful for clearing mucus in the polluted season ... name ?

Chiang Mai Removals, an excellent local company run by a friendly and helpful English man, click -
So, why are you paying attention to those who are "unhelpful" ?

There is good information in responses here which also include mocking you: if you respond to the mockery, you encourage more sarcasm. Chiang Mai is usually hot as hell in March and April, and air pollution often dangerously high. Your experience of heat/pollution will vary depending on many factors: location, time of day, traffic, etc. You will need an N95 mask. Anyone who asked me about visiting Chiang Mai in the next two months, I would advise not to come. For the (solar) Thai New Year, April 13 celebration, I might say: if you are young, wild and crazy, and like water-throwing, love ultraviolet radiation, and have superb lungs and immune system: okay. Late January, and up until now, we have benefited from a south Asia wide unusual cold spell. There is a new high-end train in service between CM and BKK. I join with other posters here in suggesting you do more online research.

Sources of any new actual information in this post ?

Where to get a decent accomodation in CM right now?
orang37 replied to miancina's topic in Chiang Mai
you really need to add some details like: how long you intend to stay; what type of rental (room, apartment/condo, hotel, house). what do you intend to do here ? what are your needs for transportation ? -
Sent the first 7162, got a second notice to send another. and sent it, got a message about benefits for 2023 ... believed i was dead because i had no notice of benefits continuing ,,, surprise: SSA => $ today. how can i re-animate my corpse ? if i'm alive today, will i still be alive in April ? could i be, now, like a Schrodinger cat, both dead and alive, depending on who opens my mind ? these questions make sleep impossible !

short version: want to talk to a local travel agent/guru who is aware of what flights/prices might be available in the next months for CNX <=> US travel. ,appreciate your comments ! I am helping a US friend plan a longer visit to Chiang Mai in the next few months ... maybe 5 weeks to 12 ... I have warned them about the very hot weather and possible intense air-pollution. Right now, fairly low air-fares US<=>CNX are available, but, I am concerned that if my friend needs to go back earlier because of the air/heat, or whatever, they might not be able to change if the tickets were purchased at a lower rate. Of course, no one can predict the extent/intensity of air pollution here this year. I read 2022 hot season did have less pollution on average than the last 2 years. global climate change could be a factor ... as it is in the current unusual S.E. Asia/China cold shape. I have been researching flexible date air fares: policies on different airline: the vary by types of travel. lots of offers of flexible departure date, very little info on changes to return date. Buying a one-way ticket to come here and deferring buying the return ? risky ? maybe return desired on is very $$$ ? while the odds are (?) that intntl. tickets from Thailand to US will be lower cost in April/May low-season, still a hypothesis.. thanks, ~o:37;

the birds that roost at dusk, and "sing," on Thanon Suthep
orang37 replied to orang37's topic in Chiang Mai
What sounds do you make when you roost ? Since I was a mynah in another life, I know they are making joyful music about coming home to the safety of the roost, about dusk, about the wonder of surviving another day, and finding food. -
wishing you the best ... i am A negative, but, here, they won't accept a donation from me (not even platelets) ... too old by many years, health history, etc. a certain English language newspaper in Bangkok has several stories about Thai blood donation requirements you can easily Google. ~o:37;
-
i found a recording of the sing-along: they sing ! but, have not been able to find the species name. there are other places i know of where they roost, some on very heavily trafficked roads. thanks ~o:37; p.s. could they be nok iang (Mynahs) ?

Are you suggesting the official government Chinese tourism news as published in major newspapers does not apply to this Lunar New Year ? uhhh ... okay ???? As I said, perhaps I was not in the right place in CM to see any evidence of the kind of tourism I have seen in previous Chinese Lunar New Years.
-
Assuming you are not just trolling ... implying "racism:" You imply that any Chinese would arrive here only on direct flights ? I am talking about Chinese tourists, including tourists from HK, Malaysia, etc,. who are culturally Chinese. Coming in via BKK or other. "spot:" ? : i'd look for the same kind of groups I have seen here for the Lunar New Year in other years, I'd hear Chinese spoken, particularly the distinctives cadences of Cantonese, As in other years, I would ask at the Duangtawan, and maybe get a response.
-
Saturday, I was at a friends' gem/jewelry shop on Loy Kroh, near the Wat: about 5PM: walked to the Duangtawan/Centara to use the fitness center about 6PM ... Very little traffic on the street, few pedestrians; the Duangtawan had a few people in the coffee shop, and I almost had the fitness center to myself. Reclining after a red-hot sauna on a lounge chair by the pool, looking west, in the clear night air, at the temple lights on Doi Suthep: about 8PM I saw a single powerful firework from, maybe, the Thapae Gate area ... but no more bursts. Later, the Night Bazaar seemed relatively quiet. Hypotheses ???? 1) I was not where the supposed influx of Chinese tourists were 2) the Chinese tourists were somewhere else in Chiang Mai, partying, celebrating, staying wherever. 3) there was no influx of Chinese tourists here. But, a big daily (English) Thai newspaper said, today, that Chinese tourism for this lunar new year was reported by the usual infallible official sources as exceeding pre-Covid levels. I conclude: the one firework I saw was a message.
