  1. So if I live off my capital and don’t bring any income in to Thailand, or earn any income here, do I still need to fill in a tax return? no taxable income to declare will be a nil return if so
  2. What happened to the mantra of “quality” tourists? the average student, Muay Thai, cooking etc, and digital nomad is pretty young and living on a limited budget.
  3. And if the victim is dead with no relatives to complain?
  4. Once out of intensive care, that’s probably a good idea. For one of them anyway.
  5. Thanks for the particularly impractical and convoluted suggestion. it shouldn’t be hard to work out why someone would want a post pay SIM card over a pre pay, but you seem to be having difficulty. just think about it a little longer and see if anything springs to mind. Two sim phones. SMH
  6. Why would I do that and to whom should I have mentioned it?
  7. You are flat wrong when you say that there has never been a requirement for a work permit in order to get a SIM card, IF the SIM card is post pay. Prepay has never been a problem. whether the situation has changed, I don’t know but for sure in the past a post pay sim needed a work permit. i guess I will update my knowledge by checking with the phone company
  8. Is that for a post pay SIM card? Pre pay has never been a problem.
  9. Same problem for me. Bank account in my name, but sim in Wife’s name for donkeys years. Because the phone company won’t give me a postpay SIM card as I am retired and hence don’t have a work permit.
  10. And what work did he do with immigration in Koh Samui?
  11. It won’t go back underground. Buds will be there alongside all the other plant parts and a regular pay off to the police will ensure that there is no issue. your bell analogy is so true.
  12. Exactly the point I have made several times. Thailand isn’t ruled by law, it’s ruled by social influencers. Once they get involved, the police, local authority, government, will start to take action. Without a social influencer preferably backed by a video from a mobile phone, nothing gets done.
  13. You’re wasting your time. Gottfried is from another planet.
  14. Russia and Ukraine? You are wrong on two counts: 1. Prior to the recent conflict and certainly prior to the annexation of Crimea, a lot of Ukrainians and Russians regarded themselves as “ brothers” with a lot in common, Holomodor notwithstanding. 2. After the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, there has been outright conflict between the two nations. How is that like Thailand and Myanmar? Perhaps England and Scotland is a good example, but Russia and Ukraine never. Their relationship has been at the opposite ends of the spectrum, but not in the middle where ancient hostilities have been overridden by economic necessity. Just ask my Ukrainian daughter in law. She’ll fill you in.
  15. Overall, taking urban and rural schools, education is clearly, on average, better in developed Western countries. That is a simple fact.
  16. Likely from well to do ish families don’t you think? Kids of poor people in rural areas barely make it to age 14 at school. But they can ride a motorbike at age 8.
  17. According to the BBC the passenger who died did so from a heart attack. which has the better quality reporting? This site or the BBC?
  18. I suspect this may be one of those things that varies Amphur by Amphur. Well worth trying without the translation. If you then need it, oh well. btw, I recently found out for other purposes that a certified copy of my passport by my country’s embassy in Bangkok, could then be translated into Thai by a local translation office in Udon, and then that translation office can arrange to have the thai translation certified by the Thai ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok. you have to pay for the MOF certification of course, but it’s cheaper than going to Bangkok yourself. Good Luck!
  19. The nationality is irrelevant. The facts are relevant. viz: drunk driver kills people on motorbike by speeding into them from behind. Vehicular manslaughter every day of the week.
  20. I often wonder how the police identify suspects via cctv. CCTV doesn’t show the names of people depicted, so is it that the police have prior knowledge of the individuals and recognize them when they see them on cctv, or do they wander the streets after the incident and look at peoples faces until they recognize them?
  21. If a free vaccination program run by the government was in place, I would probably get vaccinated again. I shan’t bother if I have to pay, just as I don’t for influenza. having said that, I don’t have any underlying health conditions and exercise each day, so am not over weight. It’s not bullet proof, but it’s better than nothing.
  22. I don’t think it’s an issue of blame. Clearly stabbing someone isn’t a blameless act even if provoked. It’s a question of common sense. Thailand in the early hours of the morning can be a lawless and dangerous place. There are locals who have no sense of restraint or civilized behavior. Getting into arguments with them can and often does lead to a farang bleeding on the floor. So stopping arguing with locals is good advice. i’m not blaming Thais specifically by the way, most large cities have areas where such stuff happens. Patong is hardly a big city, but farang arguing with locals at early morning hours is asking for trouble.
  23. It’s taken a week to report his death. Don’t rush them.
  24. I think you mean EVENTUALLY taken action to prevent …..
  25. The flow of entertainment for all those high class tourists just never stops.
