I'm the same, make batches of 4 individual meals for freezing, pies, soup, curries, etc. I get what are plastic takeaway boxes with lids from Lazada, usually come in packs of 100, which are great for stacking and not wasting space in our two freezer compartments. Inbetween is usually loaded with various breads that I've made.

Perhaps/probably wrong, but the Bangkok Post is perceived as the most read of all the Thai based foreign language news sources. Given what is happening today, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the BP is being deliberately taken off air to minimise international condemnation of what is flagrant abuse by those in actual power here and any potential suppression of unrest. I'm sure that it won't be long before Reuters etc get this out there. Thai social media is already alight with the news.

I've always enjoyed cooking, tailoring the dishes I made according to what was available wherever in the world I happened to be, from Africa to Russia. Great choice of ingredients here in Thailand, and if you can't actually get something locally, you almost certainly will on-line, including various meat and fish. I make all of our breads now, whether it's a sandwich loaf, baguettes, bread rolls, bagels or bao buns. Today's lunch is some spicy pulled pork that I'd made, on an homemade bun with homemade garlic mayonaise, topped with homemade hot sriracha sauce.

There are a few good resorts between Sarasin, along the 3001 rural road up the 20km or so to Thai Muang, however, they're all in the 3000baht+ category. Also, apart from the hotels themselves, limited in food options apart from the occasional stall. The beach road just north of Thai Muang has a few restaurants and some camping next to the national park at the end. The sea isn't recommended this time of year though.

I would recommend Phang Nga province, but away from the Andaman coast (some good resorts there, but you'll pay for them). Closer to Phang Nga town, there are numerous natural attractions, virtually nil farang tourists, and easy reach of the northern most areas of Phang Nga Bay. I've cycled quite a lot in that area, and the roads are good for two wheels, whether powered or not. A quick Google gave me this, with a reasonable span of cost options. Less than one hour from Phuket airport. https://www.google.com/travel/search?q=muang phang nga resorts&g2lb=2502548%2C2503771%2C2503781%2C4258168%2C4270442%2C4284970%2C4291517%2C4429192%2C4597339%2C4757164%2C4814050%2C4850738%2C4864715%2C4874190%2C4886480%2C4893075%2C4924070%2C4965990%2C4990494%2C72248281%2C72264422%2C72281254%2C72286089%2C72288621%2C72296744%2C72300991%2C72301168%2C72304078&hl=en-TH&gl=th&ssta=1&ts=CAESCAoCCAMKAggDGhwSGhIUCgcI5w8QBxgKEgcI5w8QBxgLGAEyAhAAKgcKBToDVEhC&qs=CAE4Bg&ap=SABoAQ&ictx=1&ved=0CAAQ5JsGahcKEwi4u5v-0YCAAxUAAAAAHQAAAAAQCw

Very poor factual reporting. The scumbag is the boyfriend of the deceased's 31 year old Aunt (he is 29 years old). She had been living with them since being abandoned by her own family, and was apparently always in trouble. This occasion they caught her stealing dietary supplements that they were packing for sale, so he decided to beat her to death with a baseball bat.

Car interior headlining replacement ?
pagallim replied to turgid's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Must be around 4 or 5 years ago, the same thing happened to my wife's Honda Accord. Not unheard of, and the cause was attributed to Thailand's humidity levels, which as those of us who actually live here are aware, destroys adhesive (don't know how many pairs of my shoes have lost their soles because of this). Honda dealer wasn't very helpful, but a shop that did seat and trim recovering were great. They actually got hold of the exact same material (leather look alike) that Honda use on the door trims, and much better than the original. A really professional job, you'd think is was the original installation. Can't help with location as this is in Phuket, but I'm sure there will be something similar where you are. -
I believe that these people also do tempered glass: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Chalong+Glass+Aluminum+Co.,+Ltd./@7.841564,98.3492412,18z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x30502fadaf1d55a9:0xbb0ba09ba35b7cf1!8m2!3d7.841599!4d98.3496033!16s%2Fg%2F1hc3g1l5d?entry=ttu

Usually these cruise ships, although the vessel itself may be on location for around 12 hours, the actual time for passengers to spend onshore is circa 8 hours. What tours or excursions could Pattaya offer within that kind of time frame, other than trips to malls and a daytime visit to Walking Street? Remember, these vessels will almost certainly have come from Singapore, so shopping other than topping up with essentials, is very low on the list of things to do. In the couple of years pre Covid, on two occasions friends of mine were on cruises that included Phuket on the itinerary, and I collected them from their coming ashore at Patong and spent the few hours that they had with them, so I'm reasonably familiar with what takes place.

Possible return to the UK, without any money.
pagallim replied to Terry2905's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Returning to the UK is the only sensible option for the OP. His reserves of savings have been decimated by health treatments, and has no other source of income. There is little point moving to adjacent countries such as Cambodia/Laos/Myanmar/Vietnam if you don't actually have any money or income. At least in the UK can obtain free healthcare and come under their social security umbrella. No, it will not be easy, and no doubt much anguish and soul searching along the way. However, in general, the UK population is a compassionate one, and he will stand a much better chance of getting himself back on his feet there than anywhere in SE ASIA. He has literally and metaphorically nothing to lose. -

What was your UK working background? Were you a member at any time of the armed forces or any other government occupation (local council, civil service etc etc). These entities have charities and benevolent funds that may be able to help. I think the very first thing you need to do is at least get an address to be able to register for NHS treatment, and Social Security. Wherever you might end up, there is likely to be a Citizens Advice Bureau that will offer perhaps not solutions but a reality check of what options and help is available to you: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/ I believe you can chat on-line so would be able to touch base with them before you leave Thailand and perhaps help you formulate a plan. One thing is for sure, you are not the first that this has happened to, and certainly won't be the last. -
You're right of course, I meant Watt rather than HP. Here's the actual pump and specification: https://www.hitachi-homeappliances.com/th-en/products/water-pump/shallow-well-tank/wt-p250gx2.html

The '250' in the serial number refers to the HP. 250hp is probably the minimum you need to service a two storey house.

A all too familiar story. Although our village doesn't get its water from the local water authority (it's a private lake which we pay via a meter each month), the same problem, going back a few years. Low to non existent pressurer most of the time causing problems with washing machines, solar hot water system etc. Enough was enough earlier this year, see this thread and post:

Looking at some of the comments, the responses are about holidays etc, and how much better places such as Hua Hin and Ao Nang were. Think these posters are missing the point. For whatever reason people choose to live in Phuket, whether it's for employment or retirement, the key draw are the facilities, infrastructure and ease of day to day living. Good supermarkets, restaurants, an international airport, clutch of hospitals both national and private, beaches galore, surrounded by stunning islands, and even the Immigration people are sensible. Hua Hin, are you serious? The Thai equivalent of Bournmouth in the UK with the beaches completely empty because it's boring and mediocre restaurants and a bar scene that apparently runs parallel to the UK pensioners bus pass app. Ao Nang is not a place to live, unless you're running a business there, and certainly not recommended for retirement. The ambulances are long tails, which tells you all you need to know.

How on earth Karon on Phuket got onto this list is a mystery. Nothing but a few resorts and low level shops and restaurants. Lanta Town (obviously on Koh Lanta) is worth a wander around for an hour or so (too small for anything more).
-
Not really, though yes, it can be found. Problem it's geared to tourist rather than Thai tastes. You don't see many Thais in Patong restaurants (unless they're with their boyfriend). For getting to diving or snorkelling activites, Rawai is much better than Patong, either from the beach itself for snorkelling trips by longtail, or to Chalong Pier for deeper water actual diving. Nothing wrong with Patong if that's what you want, but it's not an activity or foodie destination for sure.

It would appear that the market in part is being driven by wealthy Russians being denied access through visa denial to much of their previous favourite boltholes. 10,000 US Dollar equivalent for renting a fairly normal house in the upmarket areas of London is not uncommon. For these people, buying assets, be it property or such as boats, runs the real risk of confiscation (although unlikelly of course in Thailand).
-
Seems like you've got the wrong type of property if you can't control who gets access to it.
