  1. It appears that they are preferred by Stateless expats, who lack the funds to make a trip to where they came from occasionally, and pick up some decent clothes. Also, a number of trashpackers, on the accelerated road to poverty wear them. Guess who is going to be the first to piss in the bottle, when the BiB show up?

I'd never considered myself as a Stateless expat who lacks the funds to make a trip where I came from - my passport and bank balance must be lying to me ;)

  2. I'm happy to wear them around the house - nice and comfy and as previously stated once you tie the correct knot they're secure

I'll occasionally wear them if I'm popping round the corner to the 7-11 and I can't be bothered to change into shorts - seeing that some locals wear their pyjamas to 7-11 I don't feel too underdressed ;)

  3. Could this by chance be another post by a Brit, now letting us know the "proper" amount of doctors offices for a city street? Get a life, dude. Having a good selection of doctors is a good thing. Unless you have some serious illness, having a couple of different physicians to see, when needed, makes a lot of sense. They do take vacations, have babies, retire, or even die, let alone they don't work 24/7. I've got 6 hair stylist withing 500 m, hardly worth complaining about.

I am very pleased to find out that SLAPOUT is now a BRIT! I wonder if it was a painful experience to change nationality? Maybe the OP has even become a Scottish Brit

Why do people jump to totally unfounded conclusions about TV posters without making any attempt to check the facts. I am also not quite sure what the connection is with 'Brits' in this context!

A certain poster may have a chip on their shoulders about Brits - maybe one stole his girlfriend ;)

  4. Don't forget the letter from your consulate/embassy requesting that Immigration perform this service.

If you arrive in the country on your new passport (I.e. You already have an arrival stamp in it) then you do not need the letter from your embassy / consulate

You only need the letter if your passport was issued to you in Thailand by your embassy / consulate

The stamp transfer is done at the BOI extension desk - I initially tried to get it done at 11:00 am on a Friday and they couldn't do it for me. Went at 7:30 am the following Monday and was number three in the queue

Sorry, thats not correct. I just arrived back from UK with my new passport a couple of weeks ago, arrival stamp in new passport but I was still required to get the letter asking Thai Immigration to transfer the Visa stamp into the new passport.

Perhaps another case of differential info based on who you speak to at Immigration?

Possibly - I picked up a form from immigration that asked for the stamps to be transferred and initially they asked for a letter from immigration but when I showed the arrival stamp they apologised and did the swap for me

  6. have you chaps ever thought about home brewing? still in OZ atm but looking to move in the next few years and I would like to bring my keg fridge, nuthing like your own beer on tap.

Not legal in the land of the Thai. sad.png

I think it's legal if you get a licence - not sure of the cost or availability though

  7. You can sync iPhone data to iTunes on computer .One, you need to enable iPhone connect your computer. Two, download iTunes and install iTunes on your computer . Three, open the File menu and select Devices in the menu. Four, you can easy to transfer iPhone data .

    Thanks for the reply

The iPhone is already synced this way to iTunes one computer

If you try and sync to iTunes on a second computer the second computer wants to wipe your iPhone first as you can only be synced to one computer at a time - this is the issue I am trying to overcome

  8. Thanks for the reply BV but that's not quite the scenario I'm looking at unfortunately

I'm keeping the same device (iPhone) - I need to sync it with iTunes on a new computer

iTunes will only allow an iPhone to be synced with one computer - if you try to sync it with a different computer the new computer will force you to clear everything off the iPhone first :(

  9. I need to synch my wife's iPhone to iTunes on a new computer

When I try and do this I'm getting a message something like "this device is already synced to another version of iTunes, syncing to this iTunes will wipe the device"

Can I do an iCloud backup of the phone, sync it to the new computer (which will wipe it) and then restore the iCloud back up and continue syncing using the new computer? Or will doing the restore cause the phone to "forget" it has been synced with the new computer and bring up the wipe it message again?

All her photos are backed up so I think the only thing I really need to keep on there is all her line contacts, groups and chat histories so if there is a way to restore these after the wipe other than the iCloud back up I'm open to suggestions

    Cheers

  10. I understand one of the potential reasons why the office space isn't used for the people making their extensions is because when people start nattering the acoustics of the place amplify the noise causing distractions to the staff and slowing everything down

If that is the case does the layout of the new office allow for say a glass floor to ceiling partition with doors to be installed to act to reduce the sound?

Trouble is probably out of the budget

  11. I think they've kept the more 'complex', time consuming extensions at the old office - BOI extensions always seem to be the slowest to process, and I guess marriage extensions take a while with interviews, checking maps, etc. Not sure about teacher / volunteer extensions

I would guess 90 day reports are relatively simple to process and retirement extensions require less work

The problem may well be that there are significantly more people on retirement extensions than other types of extensions

If immigration ever get the extra staff that they are due then they can add them to Promenada and solve a lot of the problems

If more 90 dayers could be educated in the options available to them then this might help reduce the problems of queueing and bums on seats - there are still the same number of reports that need to be processed so the amount of time required won't be reduced but the number of people certainly can

  12. Looks like there were 2 people per counter plus 2-3 girls at the centre desk - the lady who worked through my application also had a student helping her

The 300 desk (BOI extensions & stamp transfers?) was the slowest of the three counters - the 200 desk was at about 212 when my 303 was called and the 400 desk was at 407 I think

  13. There have been a lot of reports on trips to the new office at Promenada but I can't recall reading anything recently about the old office so I thought I'd share my experiences

I needed to get my stamps transferred to my new passport so I popped in on the off chance on Friday at around 11:30 to find out that they were full for the day

Went back this morning at 7:30 and they still had a couple of parking spaces left

There was no sign of any queues but a couple of people were sat around outside

Inside was already open and maybe 3/4 full - again no sign of any queues and a few staff were wandering about behind the counter

At around 7:45 one of the staff went to centre desk and after I explained what I wanted and was given number 303.

My number was called around 9:30 and I had my passports back and was out the door at 10:00 so pretty much 2 1/2 hours all together

The staff seemed much more relaxed and friendly at the process seemed much less stressed than previous visits

Splitting the services into two locations has improved things at the old office (only based on a single trip I know)

Hopefully things will change at Promenada to match - sooner rather later for all those who have to visit there

  14. Hi,

True have given me a humax modem for my new internet connection

I prefer to use my router to control things so with previous modems I've logged into the router admin page and turned on bridge mode

The problem is that the humax doesn't seem to have a simple setting for bridge mode

Has anyone got any experience in finding / changing this setting on a humax?

    Thanks in advance

  15. How urgent is the delivery? My wife has a flower shop and delivers but we are in Europe for the next couple of weeks

I suppose I had better declare an interest in the business just to keep things above board ;)

  16. From what I understand immigration only care if you have a visa and you haven't overstayed

It's the labour office that cares if you're working without a work permit

If that's the case then there may have been a different outcome of the raid on the shared office of the labour office had been involved
