  1. This was an ironic comment. I mean of course that despite probably being the best overall vaccine AZ is routinely savaged. And people don't complain about that.
  2. What news have you been following more like! Just 6.7% of over 60's have been jabbed. In terms of numbers that's 700k out of 10 million people old uns. Yet 30 million jabs have been done throughout Thailand. Yes it was stated old people were a priority, but unlike civilized countries it hasn't happened. Thailand took an economic decision to vaccinate Bangkok, and tourist spots. Intentions are worth nothing if deeds do not follow.
  3. Right in one sense. But Thailand is among a select few of truly dumb countries that has not vaccinated according to age (and thus need). The nations 10 million over 60's could have been protected by now and this would have afforded a huge reduction in deaths and the possibility of at least a partial reopening. Effectively, Thailand is in no better place than it was when the rollout began.
  4. Need to have 90% of adults with antibodies- this is clear in the UK, Israel, and USA. If you can't even vaccinate over 60's then there will be carnage- of course everyone knows that except Thailand.
  5. Unless it's AZ of course- it's alright to rubbish that.
  6. Yeah more vaccines for youngsters and soi dogs. There was already enough to vaccinate the old people that really needed it!
  7. Just 6.7% of over 60's have been vaccinated. In short then, by largely avoiding the most vulnerable people the vaccine rollout thus far has been a miserable, pointless failure!
  8. Try harder! It's not that difficult. Don't excuse something bad, by talking about something else that is bad. Or to give an example, if I shoot someone can I excuse that by pointing out that it's not so bad because the same happened today in another country?
  9. Don't defend the indefensible by reference to something else that is indefensible!
  10. Malaysia obviously didn't need smartphones. Some might call it a cynical ploy to disenfranchise the elderly, others rank incompetence, still more sheer miserly. Choose your own from a long list of adjectives: vile, despicable, cowardly, politically expedient, corrupt, absurd, weak, or just plain wrong. So, it would appear only a fraction of the 10 million or so truly vulnerable elderly have been vaccinated. These are the people that really need the vaccine, that can benefit the most, that will end up gasping for breath without it, while Thailand opens up to tourism, irrespective of the consequences. Quite possibly, 20 million doses or more have been dispensed to people who don't really need it, and where the return in death prevention is minimal in human terms anyway, so that Thailand can present it's usual smiling face in a few shiny locations. If there is any justice, the iniquities will be well publicized in the west, and another digital culture, the cancelling one, will come to the forefront- visit Thailand, enjoy your stay, knowing thousands of old people will be paying with their lives in the most torturous way. My adjective : evil.... will do.
  11. It's a disgrace. But it's just got to be accepted as the way it is in Thailand, ie, total mess. Utter madness to vaccinate youngsters before old uns. Blood on their hands.
  12. I don't think so. Samuii Island possibly or deep south maybe, but I'd rather be sure as this still involves an overnighter. If anyone has certain knowledge please could they let me know.
  13. How? I mean where are the centres? Is it Bang Sue Station? Do I just turn up early in the morning?
  14. Yes, I haven't been offered one yet, like many foreigners and Thais alike. I guess it would have happened in Bangkok, but I am in Surat Thani. The only opportunity is through 'expatvac' but it appears slow in this province (Surat Thani) or my registration has been lost. Actually, does anyone know if I would be eligible if I moved to Bangkok for a month or two? I've read that there are walk in centres.
  15. Spare a thought for us over 60's who can't get near a vaccine. The last thing we want is to see another spike in cases which is what will surely happen as soon as restrictions are eased.
  16. Well, certainly, just staying open doesn't work unless you want 1000 deaths a day in Thailand. Yes, though, they just defer the problem. Still, lesser of 2 evils, and I suppose now the strategy is to use the window of opportunity to vaccinate and then reopen. Thailand is nowhere near the stage when it can relax.
  17. The worst mild side effects would be a harsh flu like illness that lasts as long as 3-4 days. It can be very challenging. mRNA vaccines are not associated with blood clots, but are associated with an increased risk of stroke. Symptoms that persist more than a few days should be checked by a doctor. At a pinch I'd say you have an ear infection.
  18. You can't really open up until 80-90% of adults are vaccinated or have natural antibodies. UK is now just about able to do it by the seat of their pants. Otherwise 2 weeks after, the numbers just go up again. Without controls in Thailand it could easily reach 60, 000 plus.
  19. All good advice. I checked spam folders, SMS, call info and not a sausage. Surat Thani is a strange place imo. I'll get on to the enquiry email in a couple of weeks I guess. I'm not expecting much though. I may move to Bangkok for a month or two as an alternative option.
  20. Don't know what's better: getting a reply or getting no further message at all. I suspect my 'registration success' message was the first and last message I'll be receiving. I felt angry yesterday but, as a seasoned expat, I'm just laughing today really. I don't know if I'll either bother checking my email inbox from now on. Thailand is getting even more hit and miss these days.
  21. I don't know- it is a very tricky dilemma, isn't it?
  22. But when restrictions are lifted cases just go up again. That's the way of it.
