  1. Plus separate retirement extensions in due course IMHO if funds aren't an issue for them. Strikes me as potentially less messy than having one piggy-back on to the other as his/her dependant.
  2. Maybe said officer needs to visit Specsavers (assuming they have a branch in Singapore)!
  3. And, had you been minded NOT to follow his advice, you would almost certainly have encountered stiff resistance from IMM on the grounds that processing extension applications for marriage entails much more work for them (on account of the need to refer these to Divisional HQ for final approval) than for retirement (which can be approved on the spot).
  4. Depends on your immigration office, I think.
  5. Why not ask him if you're that bothered about it?
  6. ..which also was a public holiday, as it happened!
  7. Herein probably lies the answer:
  8. From the OP: So from where he posted it in Thailand is a red herring, I think!
  9. Just because he was able to walk the short distance from his seat on the plane to his wheelchair doesn't necessarily mean that he would have been capable of walking the considerably longer distance from the plane to, firstly, Immigration Arrivals, then Baggage Reclaim, and finally through Customs to the main concourse! I'm not defending his attitude/behaviour, though.
  10. The following link sets out how you go about obtaining a 90-day non-O visa conversion for retirement. As far as I'm aware, Phetchabun adhere to these requirements slavishly (in stark contrast to Jomtien and Chiang Mai who have made up their own rules!). https://www.immigration.go.th/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/9.FOR-RETIREMENT-PURPOSES-50-YEARS-OLD-NON-O.pdf
  11. Agreed. While you should be able to work out Barclays' charges as the SWIFT initiator and also those of the ultimate recipient Thai bank, it is likely that Barclays will route the transfer through a third agency bank at the Thai end. And by how much this third bank will add to the charges is anyone's guess in my experience.
  12. Disagree with you as regards BBL because of their inability to provide 12-month statements, as required by a number of immigration offices at annual extension of stay time, on the spot, unlike most other banks.
  13. Same is true of UK account holders (and I speak from personal experience).
  14. Well I did just that when setting up a new dedicated 800k account with Krungsri 3 years ago! No big deal, really in the long-term scheme of things.
  15. My dedicated 800k account is with Krungsri and they do the job for me perfectly well, thank you very much. In particular they are able to provide me with a 12-month statement as required by my immigration office at extension of stay time on the spot - in stark contrast to Bangkok Bank, with whom I hold my main account and for whom this is a task which takes them several days to accomplish for some mysterious reason.
  16. In my case it's only been when I've needed to renew my (British) passport renewal in person. As soon as I've done the necessary business it was back on the road home straight away since the less time I had to spend in that ghastly place the better. And next time I'm due to renew my passport (in 2032), I'll probably use an agent. So, fingers firmly crossed, I might never need to set foot in that particular dump ever again!😝
  17. Equally reasonable, I think, to ask why the EU, who are responsible for the Schengen bureaucratic nonsense, insists on this. Your tourism point is IMHO a complete red herring.
  18. It is, however, to be wondered whether anyone whose witnessed life cert is stuck in this backlog (including you, maybe?) have still had their State Pension payments stopped by the DWP - a task for which they, in contrast, probably strain every sinew to avoid any implementation delay occurring!
  19. Good point. My dedicated account is with Krungsri, and I had to make 20 Wise transfers to accumulate the required 800k!
  20. Can prove an uphill struggle, though, according to this ongoing thread:
  21. And there's no way of knowing what info is revealed to an immigration officer when he or she swipes the photopage of your passport through a scanner, as seems to be universal practice worldwide these days.
  22. Because neither of his parents are Thai! Presumably your stepdaughter's mother is Thai?
  23. Definitely complain to the CAA* if I were you. Quite apart from the general discomfort which you had to endure throughout the flight, it strikes me as blatantly illegal if you were required to occupy a seat in which you were unable to buckle up during take-off and landing (plus any turbulence encountered during the flight). * https://www.caa.co.uk then click on the "Contact us" link in the bottom right-hand corner
  24. Sadly this is all too typical of most MPs' attitude towards expat voters registered in their constituencies, I think.
