<deleted>. Its based on appearance?????
You serious. It is based on passport history and if you have the appropriate visa.
Just as well the Rolling Stones are not planning a visit
The Rolling Stones have fame and fortune; people who look and dress like the Rolling Stones don't.

You need to stay out of the country for 7 days, 13 hours and 29 minutes.
No seriously - it is pretty much up to the immigration officer. If you present yourself clean cut, well dressed and appear like a person who they would welcome into their country then you have no problem. If you have long dirty hair, are covered head to toe with tattoos, are wearing a dirty muscle shirt, shorts and flip flops then you will have a problem.
Thai immigration officers are not much different from immigration officers all over the world. They are the first line of defense keeping the scum and low lifes out of their country, regardless what the letter of the law says.

The complete inability to have any intellectual conversation must be torture after a while.
It helps if you play golf once or twice a week with other expat friends from the surrounding area. For me, that actually makes the isolation bearable if not enjoyable.

I like and dislike it. I like it because people are very friendly to my face. I do not like it because behind my back they make up stories about the farang and gossip a lot.
If they are talking about you behind your back, how do you know about it?
I too live in a small village. IMHO, people who gossip are small minded (yes I know there are a lot of them) and not worth fretting over. Its the warm smiles and small, friendly gestures of kindness that I focus on. Over time, after you have earned their respect and the "farang novelty" has worn off, most of the gossiping will go away; most but certainly not all. Some people's minds are just too small.
Or you could learn to speak Thai and turn around and catch them in the act!

What do the Americans need special security considerations for?
They've set themselves up as the ''worlds police force'' thus they should be able to contain any threats real or imaginary.
Because American men are so handsome and well endowed, they require special security to protect them from female hordes clammering to have sex with them.
You asked - I told!

The people who drew up the American constitution were wise as well as brave. Nothing is perfect but despite erosion Americans still enjoy more freedoms than most others. They recognized the need for the people to have rights that would prevent central government slowly changing things to get total control.
Maybe that's why Americans have given so much to the world in the fields of science, the arts, sports, and been one of, if not the most innovative country over the last century or so.
How can you write such a story like americans are almost holy.
American democracy sucks. You only need 26 % of the votes to becoming president. Is that democracy.
Spying on Americans and all over the world.
You need a simple majority in the Electoral College to become President of the U.S. If no candidate obtains that majority, it is up to the House of Representatives to decide.
And what exactly do you mean by "almost"?
If you win 51% of the votes in one state you get all the votes from the voting man of that state. So if you say <deleted> you to 49% of the states and win the others with a 51% majority. You only have 25.5% of all votes and still have 51% of the voting man. Enough to become the next president.
Ach if you think americans are holy, so be it. Have met many Americans around the world who claimed to be Canadian because they where embarrassed by their country.
I never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

13 British colonies were not ready for democracy in 1776 but it was implemented anyway. Over the next 200 years "American style democracy" has been severely challenged, altered, changed and some would argue fine-tuned but never overturned by a coup.
So what makes Thais so different from the American colonialists? I would argue that the foreign immigrants who founded the original American colonies were fiercely independent people predominantly from Europe who preferred to think for themselves, stand on their own two feet and be responsible for their own well being and destiny. Americans' famous "right to bear arms" comes from a deep mistrust of central government and a belief that individuals have the inherent right to always be free - even with the use of force if necessary. A point in fact is that the U.S. military does not swear allegiance to the commander in chief but rather to upholding the constitution.
In contrast, Asian culture seems to prefer a strong central government that makes decisions for the populace, rewards supporters with wealth (some call this corruption) and prohibits many individual freedoms that Westerners take for granted because it is expedient to do so. That preference probably has something to do with Buddhist/Hindu beliefs vs. Judeo/Christian beliefs. Asians want someone to take care of them. In contrast, most Westerners want to take care of themselves.
"When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." (quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson) Many Westerners truly believe that; for most Asians that thought is truly frightening - hence "Thai style democracy".

"Can you tell in Thailand the difference between a beef or pork hamburger?"
Yes; in Thailand the good tasting hamburgers are pork, the bad tasting hamburgers are beef.

Those dam Americans are interfering again. Why can't they learn to mind their own business: U.S. investment and trade will spur employment—and that's essential to ending the poverty that helps spread the disease.

If you have the money then why don't you obtain an investors visa?

The first time you transfer funds to a specific account, part of the "set up" procedure is to send an SMS to the phone number you have associated with your Bangkok Bank account. Once you receive the SMS, you input the code on Bangkok Bank's website to complete the set up process. After that, there is no need for an SMS to transfer funds.
I have completed the set up process before I left Bangkok.
You mean I can proceed to transfer without having to wait for a OTP each time I make a transfer ?
To the best of my knowledge, there is no OTP after set up but I suggest you contact Bangkok Bank to confirm.

It doesn't sound like you have the full story. My guess is that your wife was denied a visa because she doesn't have sufficient assets to guarantee her return to Thailand regardless of what she was told.

My understanding is that "notarization" is not a recognized procedure in Thailand. If you need something "truly" notarized then your only option is the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok.

My guess is that Thai banks have large losses from bad loans government programs force them to make. They need the large spreads to remain solvent.

Would you allow your child to learn German from a native speaking German with no college education who was in your country surreptitiously?
Sure, why not? You don't need a college education to speak German. How will a degree in engineering or IT make him teach German better?
I've worked with plenty of people with degrees who could not teach water to fall, let alone a disinterested Thai teen how to speak English.
So you would allow someone who chose not to get an education to educate your child? Teachers do more than teach; they act as role models for highly impressionable young ones.

He added that he felt sorry for people who would lose their businesses but the authorities must do everything right, and Thai society must change from now – “No more ‘Mai Pen Rai’ or being too flexible about everything.
brilliant
ive been saying this exact thing for years , especially when it comes to the construction business, and many peoples shoddy/non existent workmanship
Brilliant my ass - nothing left at Surin beach now - not a single facility.
In my opinion this has gone a bit to far.
