  1. Are we talking here of people who leave on a "holiday", shortly after being granted the OAP, or those who pack their bags and set off for good?

I'm fairly sure I've known of people who retire @ 65, get the OAP and then take an O/S trip, without any penalty other than the pension being stopped whilst they are away O/S.

If they spend LESS than 13 weeks away, they (I think) then need to simply re-apply for the pension to re start. If they spend MORE than 13 weeks away, the re-application is a tad more complicated but the pension is reinstated shortly afterward.

Those on Centrelink "Newstart" who go overseas come under this same less than or more than 13 week rule, thus a fairly simple re application on return for less than 13 weeks, or more complicated re application if away for more than 13 weeks, even one day over!

I'm certainly no expert on this and Harry, you seem to have distinct knowledge of the subject. But if what you say in the few posts above is true, it's without doubt a real and definite denial of normal human rights, even allowing for the fact that Centrelink is involved.

If they have been in Australia constantly for the two years before they apply they may leave otherwise they have to wait 2 full years..restarting at each break.

  2.

Thanks tod_d..... From what I've seen posted recently I do believe you do really know what your talking about in these matters.

I'm not currently in that crowd, but as the Bible says," Those that have eyes, let them see; and they that have ears, let them hear.". Having both of those facilities myself, I can predict that it is very likely that in a short while the requiremwnts for ED visa will be strictly scrutinised, and followed to the letter by immigration. Did all of you scuba people down in Phuket "studying" for your PADI cetificate on ED visa in Thailnd hear that warning?

Probably not, don't think they read TV that much....but maybe one or two do.

Hopefully, that's a 'word to the wise'.

One or two of them are CMULI students

  3. However, all their marketing and advertising (including their banner link on this website) directs customers to their CMU LI website. People believe they are buying a CMU LI product but they are not. They will actually be buying an ISU product run from rooms at Far Eastern University. Why isn't this made clear to 'customers' before they pay their money?

I think this a transitional move and the websites have yet to be updated fully. I am sure in future it will say FEU. It seems Matthew has been rather busy lately so the website hiccups are understandable.

As far as it being a ISU product it has always been this but with the CMU name. I took it that CMU had contracted them to run the program when I found out and felt that I was doing CMU courses probably only half true but it is the same situation.

Again Matthew deserves congratulations on his efforts to keep the program alive and take responsibility for his students...Something CMU apparently did not do.

  4. WOW The Hydro gang is on the ball now...... new noon posting and even some minutes before the hour. and up another good size leap 3.25 as I remember.

So I mark 3.25 as the level where I start getting water under my riverside fence.

Gonzo sez " Glubb, Glubb, Glubb...... :whistling:

....anybody got any updated infor on the Nong Hoi, or C M Land areas???

So people can sit in your restaurant and catch their own fish from their seat.

    Yes

    Yes

just like in the high priced joints where you select your own fish, just taken to a new dimension

    B)

Less customers higher prices.....get them to catch their own food....and then cook it themselves.

    Maybe you are turning Thai

  7. NEWS UPDATE

    THE NOTION

    17 September 2010-09-17

Ian Forbes, one of the most prominent members of Thai Visa was last week:

Struck down by the E.coli stomach bug after eating at a Thai mobile noodle stall.

Robbed at knife point in the most dangerous part of Pattaya and again when he later travelled to the most dangerous part of Bangkok

A few days later Ian was viciously head butted by a ladyboy in a Chiang Mai Karaoke bar after he could not pay the bar tab when he lost all his money on a pool game. A friend feeling sorry for poor Ian bought him 5 rounds of drinks leaving Ian paralytic drunk. He fell down in the road and was robbed of all his jewellery by some young Thai passers by.

When Ian finally recovered from his stomach bug and injuries, some high society hooker acquaintances invited him to an orgy at their home. Unfortunately Ian caught a rather nasty STD and is now hospitalised under police supervision until further notice for his own protection.

Sounds a bit FISHy to me

  8. Matthew's letter shows his dedication to running a good program and supporting his students. He is to be congratulated on his efforts. Now if only he could fix the attendance problem it would be a great improvement. I hope the association with Far East will be a good one.

I am very dissapointed though with CMU and its actions and feel this will not help its International reputation.

    Well done Mat.

  9. Remember Johnny Cash

The river has now squirted over the edge of the bank at my riverfront. Another 30 cm or so and it will be in my backyard. For those of you who know the riverbanks around The Pun Pun, here is a pic from directly across the river.

    post-22124-003447600 1284634572_thumb.jp

Down by the Rimping condo, less than half metre and it will be on the walkway along the river.

Just for the record and to fill out the ark, anybody know where I can get 2 pigeons? Can't seem to find the 2 I had.

    Gonzo

Come and get the two that are on my window ledge nesting....they wake me up with the coing ....you are welcome to them even if you do make pigeon pie with them.

  10. According to this chart the river crest at 3.7 meters at the bridge so it has approximately .8 of a meter before Mr G needs his ark.post-91169-065038900 1284632664_thumb.gi

But that is not Mr Gs bridge.....I would get mud tyres if I were him.

    His new menu

    Mud pies and Mud cake.

How about Moon Pies and RC Cola.

    same thing

  12. went into the CAT shop at Pantrip Plaza today

    USB dongle 5,900bht + 790bht a month

    Personal wireless Hotspot 7,900bht + 790bht a month

(5 hour battery life or power/charge from mains or USB socket)

I love the personal wireless Hotspot

    Speeds, down 3.1Mbps, up 1.8Mbps

    cat.jpg

Sorry didn't ask the price of the wired/wireless router you can plug the Dongle into.

My friend gave up on a TOT landline after 5 years of frustration, is using the dongle + router and thinks the CAT is twice the speed as the 1Meg TOT landline, and far more reliable (We live near Doi Saket).

My next house will have one of these in it. Fed up with TOT.

You have read the small print havent you about being slowed right down if over 4g a month.

  13. Thanks for that.

Very odd. 3 Entry Non Imm Visa valid until 10th Jan. A five month validity.

Is it possible they could have used the wrong stamp by mistake?

the stamps are all correct , its what they wrote by pen thats mixed up . its very odd indeed. i dont even know how i got this non immigrant visa anyway . i appiled for a 6 month tourist visa . before last week i didnt even know what a non immigrant visa was . i always get a tourist visa each year , just guesses it was the same didnt look at it at the time .

The five months is understandable the clerk counted on fingers August...Sept etc and when 6 fingers were used put this as the date....THey forgot that the current month is really month Zero.

  14. [To answer the OP: The fee for the 30 baht card treatment is... (wait for it)... 30 baht. Though the care provided doesn't seem to be of the same standard as social insurance for employees. (with some exceptions I guess)

Wrong....the fee for the 30 Baht card is....wait for it 0 baht. It was 30 baht under Taksin but with Ahtitsit things are much cheaper :whistling:

  15. Harry, really they can't stop your payments if you go on a holiday overseas can they? Even like a two week trip, man they are tough.

Ok so I am asking this question on behalf of a mate that is about to retire, he is just over 65 and will go on the australian OAP, He is single has resided in Australia and has no ties to Thailand, but would like to retire there.

I seem to be reading about the initial 2 years and time spent abroad, my question is if he gets the pension and within a few months permanantly moves to Thailand will they cut off His pension?, am I understanding this correctly, does a new recipient on the Aussie OAP have to spend the lion share of His time in Australia within the first two year period to avoid problems.

    Thanks in advance.

He must spend ALL of the next two years in Australia or it stops. If he leaves in the two yeas even for a day the pension stops. on returning he must apply again and a new two year period starts. Pretty nasty isnt it. Only exception seems to be if he goes to stay in a country with a treaty with entrelink and Thailand does not.

Even a One day trip and yes they are tough and No I do not agree that it is right or of any benefit to Australia.----------------------------------
