  1. a "honorary" consul has the same status as the honorary president of a football club ...but he can hang out at his office a sign board "Consulate of the UK"

For several countries a honorary consul in Thailand is simply a Thai person with good local connections

However some of those honorary consuls are doing very useful work to provide a liaison with their embassy in Bangkok to solve local issues involving citizens.

  2. I use since many years an electrical water cooker (brand name Philips Type HD 4391/B) / 220-240 V / 8.2 - 9.2 Amp

Recently I noticed for the first time that when the cooker reaches boiling point that the two pins plugged into the outlet are so hot that I can barely touch them - even the electrical cable gets very warm

Is this normal and if not what should I check?

  3. About 35 years ago I was flying with a small airplane in French Polynesia from Papeete to the remote island of Bora Bora.

From the air I could see a small island (diameter more than 100 meter) of polystyrene floating in what is really a remote part of the Pacific Ocean.

I guess that by now nearly all the oceans are polluted and that's why it is so difficult to find remains of crashed airplane floating with the garbage

If the oceans are dying ... can mankind survive this?

  4. Can you restore the original Windows 7 and re-run the upgrade?

Tiresome I know but probably the safest bet.

But will Win 7 reactivate as he has changed the MB which I sincerely doubt.

Question, does It also depends on which Win 7 he has, OEM or Retail.if it re-activates or not ?

I think you're correct, but he he might be able to get a new Win 7 key if he calls them and explains the situation.

Then he can reinstall 7 and do the upgrade.

I did not succeed to call Microsoft Service at 02 236 6888 because they send you from one click to other : I have retail Win 7 but I am afraid with new motherboard it may be considered as a new PC

However I followed recommendation by Rob13 and this seems to work ...but I need to have my PC several hours online to find out

  5. Boris Johnson the "lion of Brexit" has popped out as candidate leader of the Conservatives. I could not image how as a later PM he could make a deal with the European Commission which he compared to Hitler building a superstate. Also... I guess he did not know what Napoleon said :" A man can be a coward under only one circumstance ...when he has to run away from a woman"

  6. Since a few months I did a free Win 10 upgrade of my Windows 7 Home to Windows 10

I was happy with this until...a lightening hit my house.

My electrical equipment was all fully protected but my HP Desktop as well as the 3BB router were out of order.

As I was still enjoying guarantee from HP their technician came and replaced the motherboard.

Now Windows 10 suffers from frequent unwanted reboots and it seems with the new motherboard many drivers had to be re-downloaded and did it with professional Driver software on my PC.

I also have Re-Imagine a great tool to fix Windows but it does not provide a solution for my case which is due to hardware (motherboard)

Now I want to do a fresh installation of the upgraded Windows 10

I downloaded from the Microsoft website an ISO file with Win 10 and burned it on a DVD

Luckily I noticed on time that Microsoft would not activate a Win 10 fresh installation if a new motherboard was installed (I guess they consider it as a "new" PC)

    QUOTE
Q: What happens if I change the hardware configuration of my Windows 10 device?
A: If the hardware configuration of your Windows 10 device changes significantly (e.g. motherboard change) Windows may require re-activation on the device. This is the same experience as prior versions of Windows (e.g. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1). The free upgrade offer will not apply to activation of Windows 10 in such scenarios where hardware changes reset Activation.
    UNQUOTE
QUESTION : has any TVF member any experience with this (getting assistance from the Thai Microsoft office 02-263-6888 is hopeless)
I can format the C drive to erase all Windows traces and do a fresh installation with my old Windows 7 DVD : but will Microsoft activate this again?
  7. As you had a previous marriage you need make clear separation when you marry again :

    - contract stipulating you will keep separate all money and assets you had before marriage (in case of eventual children in your first marriage) but you could stipulate you share fully all money and assets acquired after your second marriage.

    - try to have the new marriage in the UK so that your new marriage papers will be easily understood in other countries (and also by you)

  8. You have to pay more because here Health Insurance is - as in the USA - a profitable business and they insure no people with risks except in some cases but then they have to pay more.

I guess your blood analysis indicates problems with your cholesterol and here there are some answers :

    - exercice (walk at least half hour a day)

    - fish oil which contains Omega-3 fats

    - medication

...but a good doctor should have the last word

  9. Drug decriminalization – alongside a serious investment in treatment and harm reduction services – has been proven to significantly improve public safety and health.

Of course, I am dubious of Thailand's ability to undertake the critical element of drug decriminalization – namely, a serious investment in treatment and harm reduction services.

    I'll just leave these here...

Decriminalization also kills the 'business" for the mafia's
