  1. The basic batter is easy to make but in times past I have had limited success getting them to rise properly. They often came out as flat as a rather thick pancake. If I was roasting a joint I might give it a go again but it's too much work to fire up the oven just to make a Yorkshire.

I make them successfully in a Pyrex bowl in my combo microwave, usually in the form of toad-in-the-hole. The trick is to turn off the smoke alarms and get everything as hot as possible. I also like to let the batter stand overnight.

    I use this recipe: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9020/best-yorkshire-puddings

I agree that it would be a pain to heat up a regular convection oven just for this, and I dont think that the temp settings used for roast meat would be high enough for a good Yorkshire pudding anyway. Probably best to do them separately whilst your meat is resting.

I sometimes wonder how they would come out if made in one of the glass turbo ovens one sees here. I suspect that the air movement would cause them to collapse.

Read your comments, no.... I use a glass turbo oven, table top style and they come out perfect, the fan does not effect them at all, I think however you must use good eggs that are room temperature when making the mix, also you can add a little baking soda if you want extra rise.

  2. Lots of help so far!

Go to Soi 13/1 Beach Road (Pattaya) and opposite the Wanky Tanky Bar is a Computer / photo copy shop, he has two Fax machines in good order, he can effect at a fair price.

    Regards Paul

  3. Have you ever thought that by you retaliating that you are just making it worse?

I had a similar problem, and I offered him a beer one day outside, and explained to him, that perhaps I am too loud and that you can also hear him as well and that you hope you are not keeping him awake? (Reverse psychology) Also now you realise that you are going to be thinking of him asleep and try to be quieter! With my neighbour the penny dropped and he understood, since then no problems.

I did later give him some (in my opinion) crappy sea caught fish and he seemed to appreciate this a lot!

Failing this, its time to move!

    Good luck

  4. If your pump ain't switching on and off then it is the feed from the meter to the pump/tank. If that is under ground you gotta start digging.. I have done that twice, under my kitchen floor...sad.png

I agree with above, but many times it is the below ground water tank itself that is leaking, nearly always this, PROVIDING the pump is not starting often.

  5. That should not be any problem because you can always fill out withdrawal slips at any bank branch and obtain funds with show of your passbook and passport. Just have enough money with you to take care of any airport expense/show of funds requirement.

I understand however, that you can only use the passbook at the issuing branch, (maybe wrong, but thats what my Kasikorn branch told me in Pattaya)

  6. You can Google" Mr Bag Fix Pattaya"

They handle luggage repairs. I saw them in Pattaya on Sukhumvit and Chiangmai near airport.

I have used them one time in the past.

Closed down a few years ago!

  7. Of course bending the valve stems is going to make them leak! What to you expect!

As it is both tyres, then it is very unlikly a tyre issue, more likely something you have done.

You need to get new valve stems and make sure the wheel is fitted correctly to the rim and buy from e bay or somewhere else a valve extension, so you can access the valves without bending them.

Ive never had any pressure loss on my honda pcx or my kawasaki 650 with tubeless tyres.

  8. Pattaya area ie Chonburi is very very bad, about 10 days water left in reservoirs.

Not seen hardly any rain for about 6 months, even if it did rain it will take a long time to refill reservoirs as everywhere is concrete, so no ground soak!

Thailand as a whole is in a mess ref water, second & third rice crop cancelled this year, new planting for next year reduced to one off only.

Still no one cares really!! Pity the poor!

  9. So you are a retired accountant, yet you do not even mention double taxation treaties???

If you were from the UK income at that level (unless you had significant alternative income like a full state pension or equivalent private pension) you would have little or no tax to pay anyway.

For the time being at least those who reside overseas (both those who have successfully declared non-resident status and those who have not bothered) have a personal allowance of GBP10,600*; that would mean you are not taxed on earned or pension income if in total together with investment/interest gross income it falls lower than that amount. Tax rate of 20% applies above that 10,600 amount (until the GBP 31,785 threshold between standard and higher rate (40%) is reached). UK basic rate tax is not penal by worldwide or even Thai standards, though clearly there are other worldwide locations that tempt you with minimal rates.

Even if you do end up being assessable or partly assessable to UK taxation on your Thai teacher's salary, if you are paying Thai tax then that can also be offset against any UK tax liability on that salary.

*equivalent of about $16,000 for info of non-Brits

    {retired chartered accountant, conversant with, but not expert in, UK tax}

  10. I have invested in an investment condo at UNIXX so any news on improving tourist numbers including expanding the local airport at a cost or 200 million baht as well as creating the high speed train to Pattaya is good financial news to my ears.

As it stands now the market is weak, but give it 3 years with infrastructure upgrades and an elected government in power (before the next round of violence) the property prices will be much healthier than now.

Ha ! Ha! In your dreams! Upgrades,,, what a joke!

  11. Read through the replies, not very clear or accurate!

First of all, you have to find out if Thailand and OZ have double taxation treaties, which I suspect they have.

If so, you can elect either country in which to pay taxes applicable. (The understanding this way is that you then don't pay in both countries!)

Often though is the misconception that you can work tax free? Not really so, normally, and I say normally if you do not establish taxes are paid here then OZ want there bite! (Don't forget eventually most people caught caught up with and suffer fines as well tax liabilities)

I have employed knowledge only of UK taxation treaties and UK citizens, but I hope this assists you.

  12. I really think they have, the strange part is where did their info come from and who supplied it or do they just make things up ?

If they were asking me for money I would have been on the phone already but they are saying they have a record of me paying too much tax and have set a rebate cheque to me in Thailand.

I will probably write and ask for details on the 'account' they are basing things on.

Just out of curiosity how much in a bank in UK today would attract interest of 2000 in one year?

At say 2% interest you would need around £120k

  13. I see most replies are talking about lower back pain and ways to improve your problems..

Generally upper / neck pain is posture or trapped nerves or an injury in the past?

With this in mind I feel you should be looking at your posture and your sleeping position and neck support, ie correct pillows etc, in addition a neck brace for some time might be recommended. As said though Yoga may help for posture etc.
