I thought it was terrific.

The key word there is may. That is your interpretation. I've told you previously, I don't agree with it. I think they're talking about residents, not non-residents. If you are a non-resident for taxation, you pay from the first dollar. This is from the ATO help desk. It does mention offsets and SAPTO but still says you have to pay tax on the balance. https://community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s0000002ngF/p00172380

Prosper New Aussie series. Richard Roxburgh is always worth a watch. Set in the inner sanctum of an evangelical megachurch run by the wealthy Quinn family, when their charismatic founder announces a US expansion, the collision between faith and ambition threatens to tear his family and church apart.

Again, they're proposed. If they come in, I'll deal with it.

Australian Aged Pension
I said I wont go around in circles with you. But I will say this, as other have. It's "if" the proposed changes get up, not when. You, like all of us have no idea if they'll pass, so stop talking like you do.

It's my understanding that most people in Thailand (residents) should be lodging tax returns if they earn above the threshold. Having said that, it's a bit like declaring yourself as a resident. Just hope to fly under the radar.

Giving up
Leaving Australia will only affect your portability I think. So if you're intending to stay in Australia you shouldn't have a problem in holidaying. All the best mate.

The guys who aren't lodging tax returns obviously aren't paying tax. Some should be lodging them, but as I've said previously, the ATO prioritises debt collection and tax return lodging normally on tax/debt levels. This is something I've tried on numerous occasions to explain to KH but either doesn't get it or just doesn't believe it. I've posted links previously. He seems to think the ATO would waste time, money and resources on trying to chase down small debts. Don't bother replying to this KH because we've been over it countless times. The reason why Age Pensioners haven't been paying tax is because they more than likely declare themselves as non-residents. Pensioners going in and out of the country at the moment are relevant to Centrelink, not the ATO. I think most agree to a point, people will still be classing themselves as non-residents and so will avoid non-resident tax rates. Our tax system is based on self assessment so what you put down on your tax return will be taken as gospel, until it's not. So the bottom line is, keep things the same until legislation changes. We can then deal with it then.

Mate I don't agree with your take on this. Assessable income and thresholds don't come into it IMO, if you're classed as a non-resident. That's pretty straight forward. I'm betting the people you know here receiving the OAP class themselves as residents. In fact, I would be staggered if someone receiving the OAP declared themselves as a non-resident didn't pay any tax.

Bankbook for extension of stay
It's not incorrect. It wasn't for me anyway. I guess it depends on your branch. I got a new passport last year and took it into Bangkok Bank. They issued me with a new bank book. It still had the original dates from my old book. I took both books to Immigration for my extension but they only wanted to see the new one.

Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster This was great. 150 million years ago dinosaurs ruled the land, but the oceans were dominated by a mysterious sea monster. Sir David Attenborough joins two of the UK’s most intrepid fossil hunters on their perilous expedition to excavate the skull from its resting place 12 metres up in the cliffs of Dorset.

Anyone been back to Australia for the forced 2 year exile to move pension to Thailand?
The $300 per week pension would be in top of my other income. Like you said, just have to weigh up whether it's worth doing the 2 years for an extra 28 000 Baht per month. It's 6 years away so things can obviously change.

Seriously doubt it's stolen. Peak time over Xmas and NY. Australia Post don't deliver everyday like they used to in a lot of area's. More than likely will turn up next week IMO.

I'm a Gervais fan, but this was poor. Full of old recycled jokes and just seemed to drop the"C" word for the sake of it.

Don't think I would qualify for the Dole, so it would have to be the OAP for me. You'll be fine mate. Nothing wrong with enhancers anyway
