10 years ago, Asia City Motors in Bowin loved to undercut the Pattaya dealer prices.

The owner came and picked me up, took me to the shop and I saved 10,000Bt on my Honda scoot.

    Yes that right.

I bought the very first gen 150cc PCX from them because the Pattaya dealers wanted about 5-7000 baht above the sticker price but ACM sold it at sticker price.

They even delivered the scooter to my house in Pattaya for free.

I still have the scooter by the way.

I am bored of reading comments about EVs not being green.  If you have an EV it is a natural next step to want to have solar. Solar panels have a useful life of 30 years so mine will outlast me. I charge my plugin hybrid every day, sometimes twice a day  - saving me ฿5,000 a month I would have spent on gasohol.

My next car will definitely be a full EV something like the MG Ravel R recently released in Europe. It has a 70kWh battery and Vehicle to Load so I can use the car batteries to top up my house batteries.

I have recently added a few more solar panels to the house in preparation

Awesome place you got there, setting up all that solar must had cost a coin or two but agree that's the way to go, especially when you live in the tropics.

The MG Marvel R is having some serious specs, 288PS, 0-100 in 4.9 sec, not bad at all and a range according to them of 400km.

But they write made for European motorists who appreciate design, luxury and performance, it’s part of our second generation of 100% electric vehicles! OK that the EU site, I can't see why they can't launch it here.

    Tmax 2022: 539,000 THB

    Kawasaki Z900RS: 499,000 THB Z900RS

Triumph StreetTriple RS: 490,000 THB StreetTripleRS

    Triumph SpeedTwin: 559,000 THB SpeedTwin

    Honda CB1300 :575,000 THB CB1300

Tmax: over expensive! Where's the value?

I, currently, have a StreetTriple RS and plan to buy either a Z900RS or a SpeedTwin. Personally, I won't spend 500K THB on a scooter (I already have a Nmax as well)

    Just my 2 cents ????

Completely agree, crazy price for what you are getting.

About 16800$ in the US for the old model= 550k baht so also very expensive over there.

The sold over 233.000 of them in EU since launch in 2001 so hugely popular.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_TMAX

PS: One of my biker buddies has the Speed Twin, awesome bike and with around 100hp it can move, so not just a pretty bike for show.

Sadly it's just too small for me, I look like a elephant on it, 555.

of course there are 2nd hand Honda / Yamaha bikes cheaper available than the Bajaj. But how did the owners care about them? It starts already finding one with standard exhaust. I can imagine how these relatively small bikes have been tortured with highest RPM to get the most noise, no thank you....

I agree, buying one from a young Thai man is likely a bad idea in most cases but you see them sometime at Bathsold and Thaivisa classified, so owned by an expat. I bought my big bike from an expat with full service history.

On another note, if something is wrong with a 300cc Honda/Yamaha you can get it fixed very cheap and quickly.

  5. Honda CB300F or Yamaha MT03 any-day of the week if I was looking in that category.

The Honda is under 160kg and the Bajaj is 180kg, that a huge difference, very heavy that Bajaj so not so flickalbe, slower acceleration & likely longer brake distance.

The Honda/Yamaha options got a bit more HP as well.

You can find a 2nd hand Honda/Yamaha cheaper than the Bajaj, spare parts all over Thailand, fairly good re-sale value, the Bajaj will be hard to sell again at a fair price.

I would never buy a Bajaj when there is much better options all things considered.

think the best thing you can do to a Forza 350 is to sell it and replace it with an ADV 350 when it comes out next month ....

The PCX is the poor relative compared to the ADV 150 - The Forza 350 will be suffering the same fate i'm afraid....

    Soz and all that ...

What a totally nonsense post, some prefer one design over the other.

The ADV350 It much wider, quote from below link:  the width rises from 754mm to 895mm thanks to much wider, motocross-inspired bars.

So if you ride a lot around in urban areas that will be a huge disadvantage!

Further: Selling a relatively new vehicle is money right out of the window.

My old dog PCX150 had served my well over the years and I prefer the sitting position over ADV150.

leave it plugged in all-night, unplug in the morning at 100%. Don't charge up before bed then unplug it

It's not healthy for the battery to charge to 100% all the time.

Try the app called AccuBattery, it will tell you how healthy your phone battery is and also how to charge it, highly recommended.

Your Portugal/Brazil post was quite interesting, thanks for that. However I have already Aussie and EU passports, two more passports and I'll get multiple personality disorder ???? I'll keep forgetting when my 4 passports are going to expire...

I keep hearing good things about Portugal, but they have 4 seasons,  I want 12 months in an year non stop shorts and thongs lifestyle.

I'm thinking as a plan B it could be fairly easy to split the calendar year between Malaysia/Thailand or India/Thailand, India has a good 5 years tourist visa now, can stay in places like Goa up to 180 days per year.

    Why not Portugal summer/Thailand winter?

I am thinking about doing something like that.

  9. In the newspaper we are not allowed to quote, they write that The Finance Ministry stands ready to approve measures to promote the use of electric vehicles (EV), which is expected to significantly bring down the prices of imported EVs, said a source on the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee.

This is supposedly taking place from 1 Jan 2022.

    Interesting for sure.

A carb jetted for lower altitude will run richer at high altitude.

    Yes you are indeed right.

Quote: At high elevations, an engine's performance will decrease, and fuel consumption will increase due to the air being less dense. ... When the carburetor is modified for high elevation operation, the air-fuel mixture will be too lean for low elevation use.

Anyway, I doubt it will be a problem in Thailand, Nepal or Northern India is a different matter.

    Further to this:

I have two electric cars. Fantastic! I will never have a petrol or diesel car again.

Earlier this year, I twice drove from Phuket to Bangkok and back again.

In both directions, I stopped three times to recharge to 80%. Each charge took less that 30 minutes and while the car was charging, I took the opportunity to go to the toilet, stretch my legs, have coffee/lunch/dinner - whatever. If I had been driving an ICE car I would have stopped the same number of times for the same lengths of time.

I don’t know about the availability of charging stations on other roads throughout Thailand, but Phuket to Bangkok is not a problem. Note: The online info about charging stations is not really very good and annoyingly confusing.

    Charging when out and about:
There are three levels of charging: Rapid, Fast and Granny. Granny refers to the slowest method which is simply plugging into a normal domestic wall socket. Charging can be done at some PEA offices (rapid), some petrol stations (rapid), all MG showrooms (fast and rapid), some hotels (fast), some shopping malls (fast) and stores (fast), and I even came across a restaurant that had several fast chargers. In my experience, almost all hotels which don’t have a charging station will allow you to plug into a normal domestic socket and charge overnight. Only one hotel refused to do this.

    Cost:
The fast chargers at shopping malls and hotels offer charging for free. Smaller, cheaper hotels sometimes charge you about 3 baht per unit for granny charging. The rapid chargers at PEA and petrol stations cost 4 - 4.5 baht per unit.

What EV's do you have if you don't mind me asking?

In Australia, he is known as John the Bogan.

Last year he claimed Tesla is doomed! LOL

Bogans are uncouth, unsophisticated, repugnant clowns that must be kept separate from their female offspring to prevent errant mating activity.

Probably an anti vaccine, climate change denier with a 'Trump 2020' bumper sticker on his car.

I can't stand him either, first and only time I watched him, I managed about 2 minutes and he got a thumps down and bye-bye.

  13. Bangkok hospital Pattaya have just installed an EV charging station at the front of the building, I think it can accommodate 3-4 EV's but haven't seen it in use yet.

See a few Tesla's in Pattaya sometimes on BKK no plates.

It's slowly coming and a Goggle search say about 800-1000 charging stations currently in Thailand but I can't find a map showing them, only the MG chart below.

The main advantage is local pollution, the air in BKK could be so much cleaner is say 50% of all vehicles was EV's.

I read that most MG dealers have charging stations but doubt you can roll in in your Tesla and get charged?

Not much fun sitting at a MG dealer waiting for your EV to charge up.
