  1. Is there any corner of this very troubled country that is beyond reproach, the whole place is just rotten to the core, I have never in my life come across so many dishonest people

It really is time to elevate corruption to the top of the criminal tree and deal with these people in the harshest possible way..........that is the only answer, the downside is that only the military have the clout or the possible will to make it happen and I say that with some reservation

You're not quite getting it.  If the Chinese guy was belligerent and aggressive then he would have been subject to retaliation, but the intent to kill is hardly proved at this juncture.

If I broke in to a Thai shop then I absolutely know, with 100% cast-iron certainty, that I am going to be stopped by the locals.  Whether that results in my death or injury is in the lap of the gods.

Get real and stop the Thai bashing.

you are just repeating what is supposed to have happened from the OP, most of the discussion is about whether killing the man or inflicting violence was justified, as already mentioned perhaps detaining him and calling the police might have been the correct way to deal with this but no not in Thailand where basically a gang of men beat him to death - they should all be up for a murder charge

Arrogant tosser from the sounds of it.

They are drinking in the lounge and miss the boarding announcements, for a BA flight from Germany to the UK. They get to the gate and it's closed.

Guess what ? TOO BAD for you ! The plane may have already been pushed back from the gate, AFTER a lengthy delay during which they no doubt repeatedly tried to page Clarkson & Co. and then had to remove their luggage from the plane as is standard practise.

I had it happen to me (once) when I forgot to reset my watch after landing in a new timezone. Rather than go into a childish rant and try blaming everyone else I went to the airline counter, explained my mistake and asked them to book me on the next flight. Fortunately they only charged me the fee to change my ticket and didn't charge me for a new fare.

I've also been on flights that were delayed by people who decide to wait until the "final boarding call" before trying to dash to the gate from wherever they'd been stuffing their faces and arriving just as the doors were being closed. Then more delays as their luggage had to be loaded back onto the plane.

It always makes me shake my head that people check in for the flight, have luggage in the hold, and then can't make it to the gate in the 30(+) minutes it normally takes to board. Then you see some that make it by the skin of their teeth, which are still dripping with whatever they'd been cramming into their pie-holes along with to 4-6 bags of duty free that they started shopping for after the flight had already started boarding.

Most of the people sitting around me would prefer the plane just shut the doors and go. You have plenty of time but decide to dawdle and drink/eat/shop instead of going to the gate, even though you know your flight is going to be boarding soon, then too bad. Enjoy waiting around for the next flight.

if you are in the first class lounge it is normally a duty of care and service to manage first class passengers to their flight - yes there are of course limitations

If this is true, you can see some   people who are struggling to pay

installments, their cars will get stolen and maybe broken up for parts,

it would be a better alternative to having the car repossessed, sold

and they would still be liable to pay the difference.

    regards worgeordie

    beat me to it

The headline is a little misleading and so is the lawyer - the person that took out the HP on the car is always responsible for the loan........................................but

If they have insurance then the insurance company will cover the loss

  5. firstly what has it got to do with him - mind your own business

As for Greece - the best thing they could do is get out of the single currency - it might work for Germany France and a few others to a point but for sure does not work for Greece, Greece needs to have another referendum and this time it is to either stay in the EU or leave

The gloom and doom liberals were preaching that the dollar would drop like a rock if Trump was elected. I had no idea what would happen to the dollar so I made a sizable wire transfer from my US bank to my Thai bank. Like everything else, they were wrong. I have since lost a considerable amount of money. Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming the rabid democrats, I have only myself to blame.

get yourself a dollar account with a thai bank and convert it straight back, your loss will be minimal, I converted my sterling to baht over 3 years ago at a price around 54 and converted my thai baht back to sterling at around 42 so I now have sterling sitting in my FCD Thai account which can be used for extension of stay even though it is in sterling (it is still in a Thai account) - this enables me to ride out the brexit process and fluctuations that are likely over the next 2 years or so, I can convert it back to thai baht as and when I want online with Bangkok bank

looking at GBP EUR for those living in Thailand is irrelevant. what counts are the exchange rates Sterling / Thai Baht and EUR / Thai Baht. that not for the last week but for the last year. and then you find out that Sterling is the big loser.

by the way, correct would be to state that Sterling is recovering from a low and not EUR dropping vs. Sterling.

sorry to be a pain in the àss.

the euro actually dropped in near enough parity with sterling against the thai baht after brexit referendum, it is only very recent that the euro gained some strength against sterling which has somewhat eroded in the last week

I think its two very different visitor demographics that go to pattaya and hua hin, I doubt many will need or want to go to both places on the same trip.

I think vehicle transport and even if postal services can make use of it would be beneficial to the operator.

I don't think it is about going to either Pattaya or Hua Hin, it creates a huge shortcut if you want to go on a trip further a field - I just hate having to go anywhere near Bangkok

  9. Some of you Euro users may have been amused these last few months when sterling took a serious downturn, although it didn't really affect me as I have a reserve of Thai Baht that will last me for a while changed at well over 54/GBP

But the Euro is now in a very obvious downward direction and I don't see that trend changing for various reasons - go do some reading

If you are holding Euro it might be time to get into something else right now because all I see on my radar going forward is bad news

Euro against sterling has dropped about 6% in the last week and sterling is hardly the golden boy right now

  10. and these middle men are who exactly, I wish the Government would expose these people

and also expose the people who provide fertiliser at elevated prices

If the government want to step in and provide support for farmers across the board then they need to take over two areas in the supply chain

    - fertilisers

    - milling

instead of throwing money at the farmers that ends up with these crooks

This is exactly what is wrong in this country - pay money no further action when in reality this scumbag broke the law and should be charged regardless of how much he wants to pay the victim.

As long as this continues people will still keep doing it thinking they can get away with it by simply paying money if caught, the evidence to prosecute this scumbag is plain to see on the CCTV

I laughed when i read the part "As long as this continues" You seem to think it will end at some time maybe because you have been made aware of how justice is dealt here.

It should be stated as " It shall continue because they can pay money and it is over and done with."

So life here will go on as it always has.

thank you for correcting my error oh wise one

my post meant exactly what it said - "as long as this continues" meaning - until the very flawed Thai justice system is fixed

  13. OK so lets assume for a moment that the US under Trump leadership decides to pull out of the middle East Europe and Asia...........all back home and no longer has a presence outside of the US

Several EU Leaders including Junker have already warned the US to be careful about how they change foreign policy concerning all these points of interest........so

The EU is a big place and is not without its military, why is someone like Junker warning the US about Russia - lets just talk about Syria and the Ukraine for a moment, why does the mighty EU need the USA to be involved ?, if the US decided it was no longer interested in just these two conflict zones - why can the mighty Junker and his United States of Europe not form their own policy and military involvement in these two areas without the USA, why is the mighty big mouth Junker warning the USA not to step back ? surely the mighty EU can handle things without them......right ?, Mr Junker and his ass bandit mates Tusk and Holland are very quick at throwing out threats to the West maybe it is time for them to start looking at who is knocking on their door from the east and deal with it themselves.

Oh and just to add, how long would it be before North and South Korea are in full blown conflict and how long before China is at war with Japan and possibly other countries in the region over the south China sea.

People and say all they want about the US but without them the world would be a very different place, and yes there is stuff they may have got wrong now and again but there is an awful lot they get right and the world needs a peacekeeper - go back 50 years and try and imagine how things would be if the USA had remained neutral and not got involved in anything outside USA soil......and I mean really think about it...............would we all even still be here ?
