But a toll free call is still to a landline, isn't it?

Right, a toll free call to a 1800 number is actually a landline call that does not cost anything to user. I should rather say I haven't tried making land line calls that are not toll free using the new Skype iOS version.

Did you do that using the new Skype version from an iOS device? From what I have heard, the new version is no longer capable of doing landline calls. Also, MS have stated that the no version no longer supports SMS.

I updated the Skype iOS version to latest version last night and made the toll free call to a 1800 number in US. I haven't tried calling to normal land lines or send SMS though.

I use it mainly to call people who don't have internet connection from my IOS device such as elderly relatives in other countries who may not have internet and just have a landline phone in the house. I don't use it for anything else.

I am still using Skype to make toll free calls to 1800 numbers in US. Last night, I called my US bank using Skype through their 1800 number and was put on hold for 30 minutes until representatives become available. Despite the long talk, the call cost me nothing. If I made the same call using my Thai mobile, it won't be free.

  4. Involuntary Severance

If an employee is terminated by his or her employer without any grounds (as provided under Section 119 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 (A.D. 1998)), he or she is entitled to severance pay under Section 118. The severance pay that the employee derives from the employer under this section is exempted from personal income tax for the portion not exceeding 300,000 Baht and not exceeding “10 months” salary under Clause 2 (51) of the Ministerial Regulation (M.R.) No. 126. The portion over 300,000 Baht or the portion that is more than “10 months” salary is subject to personal income tax to be withheld by the employer. However, in the case where the employee has worked for that employer for a continuous period of 5 years or more, the excess portion may be entitled to a special deduction as a “one-time payment” under Section 48 (5) of the Revenue Code, as noted below.

    Voluntary Severance

If the employee takes voluntary redundancy (e.g. by submitting a resignation letter to the employer or by signing a mutual agreement of voluntary redundancy, etc.), the severance pay or any payment received due to such termination is not entitled to any tax exemption under Clause 2 (53) of MR No. 126. Similar to above, in the case where the employee has worked for that employer for a continuous period of 5 years or more, the severance pay or any payment received from the employer may be entitled to a special deduction.

  5. For the Kasikorn Credit cards, 3% in OP is one time cash advance fee. Also need to add 20% per annum interest start counting from withdrawal date.

I found that buying foreign currency such as US$ using Kasikorn Credit Card at Kasikorn Bank Exchange booths is not treated as cash advance.

It is treated as normal credit card purchase so interest is calculated from posting date and interest free grace period is until the due date.

"The Thai Red Cross Society is campaigning to reduce HIV transmission among homosexual couples..."

So,  either it only works on the "homosexual strain" of HIV, or Thais are still in denial that "good and respectable"  heterosexuals can't contract HIV. Many a married couple had to find out the hard way that their mates weren't what the claimed be....Either with sexual orientation or fidelity.

Still living in the Dark Ages.

It makes sense to target the higher risk group. Gay and bisexual men are at higher risk because they are more severely affected by HIV than any other group. .

I beg to differ, I always use Agoda and have done over the last 12 or so years. Everywhere I have been the hotel always swipe the card and it has to be the card used to make the booking. So this has got me puzzled, surely the card was swiped on check in?

I used Kasikorn Virtual Debit card to prepay hotel bookings through Agoda. Some hotels ask for the physical credit card for damage deposit at check in time. In that case, I would pay the deposit in cash which is refunded promptly upon check out.

Perhaps because we know what we are talking about?

The Passport swap can NOT be done at a Land Border.

    Patrick

Thai people can visit neighboring countries using border pass.

    Here is how it works.

    1. Use her Thai ID to get a border pass.

    2. Stamp out of Thailand using both Foreign passport and border pass. There are separate windows for Non-Thai and Thai so it is possible to queue at both to get stamps for each documents.

    3. Enter the neighboring country using border pass.

    4. Return to Thailand using border pass. Keep the foreign passport in safe place.

  9. Is anobody here allready using the LINE pay app?

Would be great if we can pay things like the skytrain with LINE soon.

I am using the LINE pay to topup my prepaid mobile number. You can top up to TRUE, AIS and DTAC prepaid numbers.

Need to add credit card to the LINE pay app first before you can use it for mobile topups.

I see, and is it expensive to book money from Western creditcard to LINE?

With the rabbitcard you can already pay in many shops but by phone would be even more easy. Also those shops give 10% discount if paid by Rabbitcard which is also nice.

If you have a business in Thailand you can get discount if you start using the RabbitLine from the beginning.

I don't know much about charges on using western credit cards with Line Pay. I am using a Thai credit card.

  11. I would recommend getting a Toyota Yaris 1.2 or similar from Avis car rental at Don Muaeng Airport. Rental cost is about 1000 bahts per day.

    http://www.avisthailand.com/EN/index.php

    Required Documents

    • Valid ID card or passport of renter and all drivers
    • Valid driving license of renter and additional drivers (if any). International driving license may be required with the original local license.
    • Valid credit card of the renter. Name of credit card holder must be the same of the driver. Please check there is enough credit limit.
  12. looks like a nasty bump right enough lucky he had his seat belt on

I was thinking exactly the opposite - by not wearing a seat belt, he slid under the steering wheel so his head was low down. If he'd been strapped to the seat, he would've been decapitated.

    All guesswork, of course. biggrin.png

Or it could be the famous GOA body that all Toyota Vios has. GOA body on Vios has a crumple zone and high integrity cabin. It protects the occupants by helping minimize deformation to the passenger compartment.
