  1. Good news! There is a simple solution to this drug problem. We can legalize all drugs and then regulate them in the same way we do other drugs such as alcohol and tobacco. By doing this, we remove the profit motive so that the smugglers, dealers, and street sellers will all have to find other forms of employment. The savings on law enforcement costs will enable proper treatment for those with drug abuse issues--with loads of money left over.

Don't believe me, though. I'm just a guy on the Internet. See what the LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) experts have to say about it. These are former drug warriors who understand that Drug Prohibition is the cause of the problem and NOT the solution.

Dude you can't argue that! It would make everything to easy. These draconian types prefer to spend lots of money in a losing war, and prefer the criminal organizations to reap all the benefits.

We need to keep the streets safe for our kids, I mean prohibition has worked wonders so far. Right? Right?

I actually hate drugs (well class A) with a passion, but think making them illegal makes them far to dangerous and only profits the stupid, bold and violent. But this weekend just going around Bangkok, and I went to mostly industry events this weekend, I must have seen at least 3 different people sniffing something in the bathroom (its not discrete guys if there is 1 cubicle closed 3 people talking and someone taking a sniff every 20 seconds loudly) and literally found some strange pills which I am going to ahead and assume from their color and shape were not pressed in a legitimate factory. I showed them to a friend of mine who told me it was ecstasy and he took it away, I doubt he handed it over to the authorities.

I have actually often wondered, if you do find something and want to hand it into police is it safe to do that here? Or will they try and get something out of you for having it?

  2. No plans to start an account and can't stand the need for people to inform the world what they are doing.

i.e. 'just got up, took a crap and washed my hands. 6 people like this'.

And anyone who posts the kind of stuff that got this woman fired deserve to get fired the buffoon.

You need to create an account and try it for yourself before you bash it. I hated it to once, but with all my friends spread around the world I can't imagine life without it now.

  3. I think the police are losing the plot. After basically an endless stream of bad press, they are fighting back by telling tourists to tell the ladyboys working at 7/11 about the crime that just happened to them ???

Here is a free tip. How about stopping crime in the first place, instead of a new bizarre way to report it. Instead of the police taking all their time blocking traffic so VIPs can rapidly whiz around and stopping Thais at the endless checkpoints to steal their money, they need to follow western policing. Meaning the police are cruising around everywhere looking for crime.

Somebody asked me one time if they would get stopped by the police at night. I said no, they are all at the Karaoke bars spending the money they stole that day.... :cheesy:

They need to follow Western policing eh? Hope they dont follow Chicago's example.

    My link

They need to do something different but when I say need, I mean we need, they like the system.

I see police cruising around all the time btw, stoping and searching people around sukhumvit area between asoke and RCA mainly, they have stopped me around 10 times in 5 years. Usually polite, one time some took my money and cigs at a check point, I asked for it back he gave me the empty pack and my empty wallet. FKN AS**OLE, the taxi driver was non to pleased either he made me goto an atm even tho we were stopped in front of my apartment building. Mostly they are ok tho, have asked me for my passport (which I said I didn't have) but always let me go on my business after a few minutes.

I don't think I particularly look the criminal type, but I guess being in your early 20's and in Thailand its like fishing for them. My Jamaican friend gets stopped CONSTANTLY, and the police have told him its because he is black.

So I don't think you can't say they aren't out looking for crime, its just they prefer money from the criminals as opposed to solving crime.

What is especially weird, I have seen people get into trouble and police escort them to ATMs... thats kinda fked up, obviously something dodgy is happening, but of course no one notices.

  4. I have been sick for over a year now, the same problems over and over. I am over tired, I get frequent headaches and my digestive track doesn't seem to function properly.

I have been to bumrumgrad, to bangkok general, samitijev on 49 and another one a long time ago I can't remember the name of. Each have run their own tests, had cameras shoved all around me and they keep coming up with IBS and its psychological, but I can't believe that and take it anymore. Currently I haven't eaten anything but rice for 2 days and I have the most intense head ache, I have more than enough of the same medicines I get each time to know not to bother go to back to the hospitals. I am sick of going back there, they won't even test my blood anymore. Right now I have tingling in my hands and legs and there is definitely something wrong. Anyone know of a good doctor, or is one?

obviously there are more symptom than the ones I have described but I can't hand it anymore. Anyone have a recommendation?

  5. So you have a problem with someone who's aware of a crime being committed reporting it to the proper authorities?

And many ferengs wonder why they have such a bad reputation in Thailand!

Strange the girls don't think so... or perhaps thats just the wallet.

As for OPs post, just tell her to move away and not talk to her again, if the girl cant find her the police sure as hel_l won't bother.

  6. Even though this is certainly a non-story for most ThaiVisa.com readers, it again puts light on the weird position of 'Pattaya One'.

First the Red Shirt propaganda that showed some very weird understanding of 'information', now that which could be called 'desinformation' right away or the tabloid way of doing (online) journalism.

Having said that, I can understand everyone who intends a long stay in Thailand and who doesn't want to follow these crazy rules who effectively force you to do time-consuming and expensive 'visa runs'. More than 3-4 'visa runs', and 20,000 Baht are already saved!

I have yet to understand the logic of these trips - why can't the Thais simply issue new visas (or extensions) right in the country?! Even if it would be at the same cost - it would be more convenient and save a lot of money that can be used in Thailand instead of another country. Apart from that, I would expect the local immigration office much more 'familiar' with one's files, business activities etc. than any embassy abroad.

but then the visa run companies would be out of business

    oh noes!

  7. Also... P1 if you are really correct on this issue, why can't you find a single person who has experienced this? From people I know here who have overstayed in the past and present they still walk to the airport 20k in hand and its fine. (I have been here for 9 years, and have known ALOT of overstayers)

So far I have yet to see a single piece of evidence for these claims.

  8. I love all the people on their high horses. I noticed this a few months back in Pattaya, I am surprised it took so long to get here. In pattaya the first one I noticed was out the front of the police station on the beach road, they were having a free community show on at the time and I couldn't believe the vendor was set up selling child pornography RIGHT THERE.

  9. There are some scams but there are also increases in prices recently (I believe not 100%) as stated on one or 2 cards I have seen attached to the back of the seats. I don't know if they can charge their own amounts or companies set their rates I am not sure, but I have seen different cards as well.

  10. About eleven years ago I was buying some street trinkets from a young deaf girl who had her back to the busy traffic on Sukhumvit. In the

middle of our transaction the sound of screeching tires, followed by the crushing sound of two vehicles impacting within thirty feet of us

restored her hearing in an instant. BUSTED!

Did you consider that perhaps she was just HARD of hearing and found it difficult and perhaps a loud accident might actually make it through, and I am sure if you don't hear anything a loud noise making it in is even louder to those who are hard of hearing. Hardly busted but I bet you have told that story many times to friends thinking how clever you are.

  11. I wouldn't let people crowd around me in the first place in SEA, its easy enough to avoid the squish.

Looking slightly intimidating also often helps them pick easier targets, being tall helps. So hang out with tall people :)

  12. I was out last night, its like the police don't realize they can still go out on curfew... taxis are non existant and i had to walk home but otherwise nothing was happening. My dads girlfriend who is thai told me with a thai speaker its ok, and as long as you are friendly they just want to see photo ID. So if you choose to move about, take some photo ID with you and a Thai speaker if you can. Also if you are in a car you might go through a check point or 2, I had this happen on the first night of the curfew in my Indian friends car, they popped the boot had a quick check of the car and him and told us to go home. Didn't ask for money or threaten us or anything, were very friendly.

  13. Lets hope they can hold it together and the next election can bring us some peace. Today has been very silent around my area (asoke, near klong toei market)
