  1. Generally as an avid gamer I frown upon such games, the time and money which goes into the higher end of gaming is what keeps me coming back, what keeps me upgrading or purchasing entire new PCs and Consoles each year. Open source games usually don't push the envelope in terms of graphics and game play, often are copies of successful commercial titles and I don't mind pay for my software personally, especially if it is cutting edge... That said though, I won't pay for a game unless I want to play it online anyway, or I want some kind of online content (WOW, anything with downloadable upgrades or purchases)... Otherwise I just locate the game I want on mininova and download it from there, same with all TV series its the only way to stay up to date with the US, I download TV about 3 - 4 hours after it has been released on TV in the US... I love the internet.

  2. I was a dedicated world of war craft player, i mean absolutely hard core (227 days played on my shaman alone) and I managed to kick it cold turkey, but after a recent flurry of emails from blizzard about my account being upgraded for free and giving me 60 days to play, then banning my account when I didn't react and forcing me to fight for it to get it back I find myself terribly terribly tempted to play world of war craft again. Needless to say I can't play it like I was before 15+ hours a day but I will be able to put in some time.

But is it worth it? Will I be tempted to get back into my endless grinding and leveling which is world of war craft?

I finally just got my account back, although I am not sure why I bothered fighting for it... I wonder if it is some system in order to attract my interest again? Can't say it has failed can we.

So what do you think? Can I find people here in Bangkok who will be playing with me? Should I just drop it? I don't know what I should do haha.

  3. Extreme lateness of this reply, but for future references it will be helpful.

There are a few different places to play paintball in thailand, combat zone 62 (sukhumvit 62) is excellent and is good for beginners, they usually meet every wednesdays (for practices) and sundays (for play), there is also larb 11 army base our near ratcheotin this gets alot more players on sundays and is where I play every week, its an excellent field and always has players. Then there is Tub cheang which is out near the new airport (google these for directions) this field is new, very nice, but slightly pricier than the others and due to its location gets less competition.

  4. It just seemed to get stuck over and over on the creating game caching page, then I tried it at 4am (yes I woke up especially for it as it was suggested to me) and boom straight away no problem. Awesome game btw, I think I still prefer rome total war though. I don't know what it is about rome, but something really gets me into it.

  5. Because I like the series and really wanted a good playing experience without the possibility of finding the installation didn't work I decided to buy a legal copy of empire total war. Yes, I can hardly believe it myself but I did.

But now I find myself 24 hours later, still lacking any game time on the game and I am wondering what was the point. Firstly let me vent my discontent with Steam and the application itself.

During the installation phase with this game it kept freezing and crashing at "creating game file cache" on the steam menu, read online about it. Killed my AVG and other programs which 'might' interfere with it and kept attempting to install. Literally tried about 50 times before I gave up, someone mentioned trying at a different time of day and I happened to find myself awake at 4am this morning, so I decided to try again then and without a single problem it installed... with my antivirus and programs which might be blocking it running. Not even a slight lock up or freeze, <deleted> was that?

So that was all well and good but in attempting to get my empire total war started I was told to uninstall steam, great there goes all my other steam games. So now I find I have to download another 10++gig of games, plus did I mention I still can't play Empire Total War? Apparently it needs to be fully updated before I can have any fun... Thanks steam you unholy douches.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience with y'all and let everyone who is considering buying this game think about this, and the possible hel_l/headaches it causes... The sad part is I am still waiting and I really want to play it. Looks so good.

  6. I know of a British woman here who owns a school for students with special needs. Usually she only caters to foreigners though. If your interested pop me a private message and I will get you the details.

Really nice lady, excellent school from what I understand.

  7. I have a feeling those rankings plain ignore africa... I can't imagine the UK being 13th with Africa in the talley. In some countries there the rape rates are so high you meet a woman and you might as well toss a coin to judge if she has been raped or not.

Thailand is pretty bad, I mean Africa is hel_l, but Thailand's definitely not heave.

As for the Daily mail, I have a feeling any reader of the daily mail who chooses not to visit Thailand will probably benefit Thailand.

  8. The lasting legacy of Patana for me is that it exposed me to so many vastly different worlds, be it Thai or non-Thai, and also the lifestyle of a group of people several castes above mine - I'm still reeling to this day from the expensive taste I acquired...

I know what you mean, my dad is annoyed with my 15,000+ power bills, spending on his credit card and spending 3 times what I earn and he foots the bill... BUT I travel, have work opportunities in Dubai, Asia Australia and Europe so many doors were opened for me. I just became a little too accustomed spending too much.

  9. Dude serious St Andrews shouldn't be compared to Patana... Seriously, look at the quality of the buildings the equipment and the teachers?

Seriously, my girlfriend attended Patana for 12 years and needed a change, now she is at St Andrews and she says the education level is far below. I have been helping her with her IB Physics and I don't know what her teacher is on, but even she knows what he is teaching her is wrong. I just hope she passes the exams its her last year and her French class just restarted the course because the teacher and students were too poorly organized. This is their first year of IB at St Andrews and I feel really sorry for the kids participating.

    Honestly, don't compare the two.

    Ok the Phra khanong one.

If your girlfriend is studying in St Andrews Phra Kanong, that means she's 16 or under.

Is this something to be made public on the interweb ???

They are doing the IB at St Andrews that 17-18 she is second year she is 18... thanks for your concern. Again none of your business.

  10. If you want to go to a cheap places China town, If you want to go to a good palce which you can play at aswell and perhaps try paintball i would suggest larb 11 army base in ratcheotin, or combat zone 62 on sukhumvit 62. They are both paintball/bb fields with specialized shops and staff who can repair and maintain them.

  11. If you want to compare schools, and you are looking at the top end you are looking at ISB, Patana, perhaps a NIST... there are some other okay ones around, however the first 2 i would recommend if you want a school which really puts effort and cares about your kids. Even today I still have contact with my school and will go back and visit.

  12. As a matter of interest, how dangerous are the little ones with the built-in flashlight? Horrible noise and smell of ozone but are they effective in an attack situation I wonder?

Dam things had better work, thats what I got for myself!

I think you will find them significantly lower than their american counterparts.... scary and a little noisy but if you have been shocked like one (I have) you will realize they aren't much protection especially if you are fighting off someone more powerful than yourself, and don't forget if they are touching you its going to conduct.

  13. If you want you can get my opinion about the schools from having friends at them, but some will not be flatering to the school. Especially in terms of st Andrews and Shrewsbery.

My Girlfriend actually studies at St Andrew's currently.

St. Andrews has several campuses, and they are not all part of the same group so be specific. If your girlfriend currently studies at St. Andrews, then I would be watching out for the police as the highest grade in all of them is still high school.

I am 21 and attended high school with this girl, the police can go fk themselves, I have known her since I was 15 and yeah it was a little weird at first but my relationship with her is no ones business. Last of all the Thai governments.

  14. Dude serious St Andrews shouldn't be compared to Patana... Seriously, look at the quality of the buildings the equipment and the teachers?

  15. The cultural point of the international school is to provide a culturally international environment; it would be defeating the purpose if a majority of the students were Thai and therefore spent most of their social or even academic time using Thai to communicate with each other (which is what inevitably happens in any Thai-majority program, no matter how well-funded or respectable). No doubt if these rules were changed ISB would be nearly 100% Thai, but that would simply mean another international school with such rules would have to be created.

Now you say it like that it makes sense.

Some parents who wish their children to have more fundamental Thai connections avoid such schools for exactly that reason (as if you wish your child to do well in the Thai world the social connections are crucial).

This is what i'm thinking, basically im intending for her to be raised wholly in Bangkok hence am looking for a school where she will meet kids of well connected Thais so would you know of where these people send there kids? (I despise this concept of having to be in the right circles but Thailand and the world is how it is)

You don't want anything fundamentally Thai in you children if it involves important things like education man. I mean, if you want to be fundamentally thai send them to a local school so they can learn in Rot and become another useful member of the bottom end of society.
