  1. An easy way to check is to apply for a visa and if you are turned down, then you are on the blacklist!

However, if you get a visa, you may discover on arrival that you are indeed blacklisted! A heroin-smuggler previously convicted and jailed in Thailand recently discovered that for herself.

Not all embassy personnel up date their S-list religiously.Sometimes the S-list updates are received late. So if you happen to apply for a visa during that window period before the up-dates are done, you may be issued with a visa.

However, at the point of entry, the immigration authorities do scan your name against their list and theirs is up-to-date. You will then be refused entry and held until you can get the next flight out!

This sounds like 'NO, BUT YES' joke. Their info is not up-to-date, but the Imm officer data is. Do they have super comps, or just some Depts do not bother to enter data?

In which case ANYTHING is possible here. :)

  2. I like animals. Horses, dogs, cats. Naturally I am sorry for the ugly killing. Poison is a horrible death, slow and painful. Now, Stop and think. Use your 100,000bt to find out the kind of poison. Find the nearest places where it can be easily obtained. Check out if the vendors will not finger the culprit. Most likely the 'good' neighbours.

Now, IF you will find out who did this,- what would you do? Poison their pet? Poison their kids? Torch their car? Legally, you can do nothing. Illegally, as I said, STOP AND THINK!

Really sorry for you and your family. Sad story...

  3. Tragic. Sorry for the young man's life. Even more sorry for his family. BUT, ACCIDENT it was not!

Never mind the sign 'No swimming after 6pm'... NOBODY in Thailand gives a dam_n about enforcing the rules/laws. They are cheap copies, 'same-same' but not the same as the western laws/rules.

What cable was it? From where? For what? Why over or near the pool? Was it installed by a qualified Electrician? etc. etc. etc. Which means that the Insurer of the resort will not pay. (Not that it matters, but...)

    TIT for that!

My heart is heavy with grief for thee, young man.

  4. Hello everybody! Having read the above posts, recognise many patterns. Lived in 3 really different countries. Married more than twice. Seen it all. My wife is a supermodel of cleaning. Makes me feel guilty, but can't 'stop the music'. True, she tries to keep food morsels, but I just throw all out, and make quick end of this. We never argue.

Now, where does being Thai come into a messy, untidy, unhygienic stinker? They come in all shapes, forms, genders and nationalities...

As to the village folk, - peasants are peasants all over the world. If you marry one, do not expect her to sing Beethoven or dance Giselle. And she will prefer the dugout. :)

Happy New Year to you all.

  5. From my experience, on the 5 points u asked about, Thailand would come out on top. Better than the other countries.

There are a couple of points u didnt ask about...personal safety/security (very relevant). I believe Thailand is tops there also.

In my opinion Vietnam would rate second overall.

I am sure you will get others with differeing opinions though.

Best way....tour them all and see for yourself.

    Good luck and happy travels.

Hello, everybody. Looking back at OP's questions I would like them applied to Malaysia.

I am going there soon to check it out in terms of an alternative to life in LOS. As much as I like this country and people, I am in principle appalled by the farang phobia of the local laws (never had any problems with Immigration people, or brushes with Law).

Just a metter of principle. No land ownership, Yearly visas, Quorterly reporting, Permits to go, No business activity legally, etc. Overall impression: they need our money, but not us. I think voting by legs is the best way to convey the message.

I will look and decide for myself, but would like to have as much info as possible before I go there. I am thinking of Penang vs KUL. Quality of construction, RE prices, cost of living, economic and political stability, population's phobias/attitudes to farang, etc.

Thanks for any contribution. Happy New Year to all. :)

  6. Jatuporn is just trying to incite hatred and division. That is his role in team red. The more mundane claims come from different spokepersons and the outrageous ones that never involve any real evidence come from Jatuporn. Look to who is speaking for the reds to decide on potentail veracity of claim.

The asset seizure case is coming to conclusion and the Thaksin side need a game changer or enhanced hand before it does. Jatuporn is going to try and stir before a demo. The same happened before Songkhran alkthough the rather odd egocentric Jakrapob did the firing up then.

THAT'S IT! I'M OUTTA HERE. NOBODY wants or can give any facts! I have asked twice to no avail.

CONCLUSION: just a blabbering bunch, who do not know what they say.

Merry X-Mas to all. And shut up. :D:D:)

  7. 1Get rid of the trash :D:D

2Get rid of the corruption :D

    3Get rid of hate :D

4Get rid of those awful Frakenstine shoes :D

5Get rid of (someones name) :D

Ok there is 5 Get Rid Of's and none of them mean the same thing

Only one means to kill or dispose of with prejudicial murder; number 5

well maybe number 4 too. :)

Actually none of these means to kill. Judicially speaking.

Being a guest of this country, I absolutely refuse to partake in any politics, red, blue or yellow.

But this is the second time I am posting a humble request: Please, show the facts, PRO and CON Thaksin. No emotions, just the facts. I am a poor bugger of a farang, who has been in Thailand for only 3+ years. Just the facts. Please! :D

  8. I feel a bit sorry for them, they obviously love the place to have stayed here homeless without seeking help.

I hope they do return one day if that is there wish.

    Can you explain why? :D

In their country they at the least, will qualify for social security. Which will be pointless anyway, if they really are so far gone on alcohol.

They 'love it here', because in Sweden it is too cold to sleep in the street, the police is not so nice and the alcohol is more expensive. Oh, yesss, I forgot how much they love Thai culture! :)

Wake up. Don't put the cart before horses,-it doesn't work, no matter how much you hope or feel sorry.

  9. Just curious where the members from the region are from?

:) Might have to keep the poll open a long time to get many votes from Burma. If you add Myanmar maybe you will get a few responses much quicker.

When a free country decides to change it's name I'll accept it. Until then, myanmar is just a slave name IMO.

A shithole is what it is, no matter how you call it. :D

  10. May they spend the rest of their days taking it in the bum at the Bankok Hilton.

Why - what harm have they ever done you?

    Show some compassion.

Maybe I am too hard a person, but never did I have compassion, feel sorry or regret the wasted life for any substance abusers. This is one malady, that is entered into by free will. Naturally the same goes for drug producers, distributors, smugglers, etc. I entirely support governments of all countries having death penalties for drug related crimes.

No sympathy, no compassion from me. :)

  11. OP. No offence ment, but the original story makes me wonder. Are you naive, or stupid?

Working 5.5 months, not seeing any money, while you are not so rich yourself (borrowed twice 40,000Bt from a friend). Nothing in writing! Working without a permit! You put both feet forward, and both are wrong. How and to whom are you going to complain? I feel sorry for you...

You should revise your definition of friendship, in good time... :)

  12. Carpy,

I can't give you a definitive answer on that one. What I can say is this, your wife has obviously been assessed as a 'genuine visitor' otherwise she would not have been granted her tourist visa.

However, when she arrives in Australia, if she is questioned by immigration about not having an onward tickets, what will she say? Keep in mind that immigration want to be convinced that she will not overstay or work whilst in Australia, that is contravene the conditions of her tourist visa.

Does she have adequate funds to support herself whilst in Australia, or access to adequate funds? Did you provide a letter of support with her application? Will those funds also cover the return airfare.

If I was in your position, I would see that she leaves Thailand with a return ticket.

If I were an Immigration Officer, I would be suspicious. Personally, as I am right now, I am almost sure she is not going to return. It is a common knoledge that price of 1 way ticket is practically the same as a return ticket. Strange, but this is a fact. So, WHY? :)

  13. Thai men have little cocks!! Ha seriously they still beleive anybody with white skin is rich, stupid really as there are many farang countries poorer than thailand

    What a load of crap!

    1. Did you measure them?

    2. In proportion to body size? Thai body size is smaller too.

    3. They seem to manage to inseminate all girls under 20, leaving you to raise the kids.

    4. It's not the size that matters.

    Stop flattering yourself. :)

  14. Please, stop picking on Thai women.

All the bad things said about them are true. But what about our stinking West?

The institution of marriage has outlived itself. 'Until the death us part' means now until one of two wants a divorce. But this is not a real problem. The real problems are many. And cut very deep. Women marry for money, security, family. Men marry for 'love', or rather lust. Women think with their heads, men - with their balls. And pay for this later.

There is no equality (never has been). Legally, women have more rights. Children are always awarded to them. Why? Houses are coming with the children. Sounds fair,... but how many of these are your own? Women have sex for better offspring. How many husbands do fit this bill genetically?

Men can not be, do or feel the same way. This is a biological fact. A man must feel 'lust' and have an erection. A woman does not. This explains why there are so many marriages for money, with statistics favouring women.

Anything else is crap, based on personal experiences, whether good or bad. :D

Can this situation be changed? Not the physiological aspects. The social ones? Perhaps. Introduce Marriage licencing. Valid for, say, 3 years. Renewable only upon both parties application. Remove children from the divorce disputes, by making all offspring of broken marriages wards of state. Introduce compulsory fair prenaptual contracts (maintaining 'status quo' at the point of marriage). And no maintenance to either party....

Questions. 1. How many people will want to marry on these conditions?

    2. Do YOU want such changes?

    3. What do the unemployed lawyers and judges do?

:):D:D To make this really short: REMOVE MONEY FROM SEX ISSUES!

  15. Either I have more questions than a fool, or -

Is passing this kind of info classified as 'spying'? I've heard of industrial, economy, defence espionage,... but flight timetable? Wasn't it posted on the board somewhere?

If the flight schedule was kept secret for security reasons, was the carrying plane in any

real danger? Over Thai airspace? In international airspace? Thailand is not Nth Korea...?

If it was an act of espionage, what about the receiving end? The Thai diplomat?

Was the Thai engineer coersed to give out this info? If so, - what...?

Do we consider Thaksin as a possible asassination target? Now? Later? Ever? For what?

I get the feeling that the whole thing is not worth all the time spent on it here. :)

  16. I heard the reason is due to many chemical plants there

I live in Rayong province, about 35km from city. No complaints about the air quality, winds or weather. Many beaches are very good. Koh Samed and Koh Chang within easy reach, apart from many smaller islands. Nice and quiet. Don't take anybody's words for granted. Come and check out, you actually might like it. If not,- no big drama. :)

  17. Even a cursory consideration of most nominee structures would show they offend the letter of the law as well as the spirit.

That the practice of using nominee companies is widespread is not because the laws themselves are ineffecitive / easily circumvented its more to do with the lack of enforcement.

That points to much wider issues.

Is an attempt to circumvent a law an unlawful act in itself?

Not if you use legally correct procedures. This is the difference between avoidance and evasion. But you must make sure that the person enforcing the law knows the difference.

Speaking of 'The Spirit of the Law',- there are good laws, bad laws and non enforsable laws. The one universal quality of any law in any country is that it is THE LATTER that counts. Laws have no SPIRIT, unless you live in a society where the laws are open to arbitrary interpretations. :)

  18. You are never wrong giving in to cynical attitude.

No matter which brand you will buy, one thing is certain:

Any brand 'original' refill of black cartridge (they always go faster) will cost you anywhere from 25% to 40% of the whole new printer together with its cartriges.

I do not know the logic behind this, except getting you 'hooked' on a brand and milking you for money as a cow.

    Cheers.
