  1. my house is loaded with macs, iphones and ipads but i don't think i'd ever buy any of them here in thailand. the markup is redonkulous. i would consider them for "authorized" service but that's about it.

While I am not sure what stores charge, if you buy Apple products from the Apple website your post is totally false. The markup is very small compared with the U.S. and MUCH less expensive than in Europe. Given that you do not pay tax since you are getting the products from China or Singapore you likely pay even less than in the U.S. Know your facts before posting.

Thats a pretty funny post! Joe84330's post was about markup in shops here in Thailand, not from the apple website. Your ending line of "Know your facts before posting" is rather aggressive seeing as you are "not sure of what stores charge" and you " likely pay even less than in the US" it seems you are unaware of the fact too.

    Thanks for the input.

  2. Buy a GPS for your car this will save you an amazing amount of grief if your planning on doing any kind of distance driving around here.. www.gadgetrend.com (only posting url as they are a forum sponser, presume - possibly wrongly - that it is aloud) have a basic gps for 3,900 baht. Head for Satun and get the ferry from there, doing all immigration when you arrive. As for stops on the way, possibly Krabi is your best bet, Only a couple of hours or so once your off the ferry at donsak.

  3. Sorry just dont get it, how this can be positive marketing for a bar.

    .

I had the misfortune to have to drive through Bangrak at about 1230 last night and the Premier Bar probably had more people (paying customers) in it than the rest of the bars put together. So positive marketing or not it seemed to have worked!

Were there other places with more people(non paying customers) in them? biggrin.gif

Premier Bar has always got more customers than most..........................its all about good experienced management, and the fact that they always remember their old customers with a welcome greeting !

Your right, the promotions, special offers and events are what you need to succeed in that trade, not like some of the other bars that just put a few girls on poles and sit around moaning how quiet it is. And some dont even bother to put girls on poles, but they are still moaning. Its not a bar that I like to drink in and I have my own reasons for that but all credit to the management they seem to be doing a good job

  4. Well said Rooo. As you say, all is now clear.

Nalak was running a dodgy bar in a (small) red light district. From his perspective - Samui has a lot of problems.

For the those of us that live here and lead normal lives, it is still a great place to live. Yes there are things that we would like to change - but in the greater scheme of things - I would rather live here than anywhere else. (Yes - I have travelled extensively. Africa, Europe and North America and I have also lived in a number of countries in SE Asia as well as in Ausralia.)

Nalak - I hope that you find your paradise. I have found mine. It is in Samui for now. (BTW, I drink beer - large bottle - 31 baht! It used to be 28 baht - but .....)

where do you shop tropicalevo cause thats where i want to shop when i get there lol

When you get here look for cases of Archa beer. It is the low alcohol version brewed by the boys that make Chang. Only 5.4% I believe. 368 baht for a case of 12 large bottles sold in Makro, Big C and Tesco at that price. :partytime2:

It was brought out to take on Leo which is the cheaper, low alcohol version of Singha!

There is a still cheaper beer (Cheers) but most people who have some taste buds left steer clear of that one. B)

    Leo 5%

    Singha 5%

So it looks like its actually only a cheaper version of the same strength. I always thought it was bought out to combat chang???

  5. I bought the second from top model and added the retractable wing mirrors (about 10k if I recall) had leather interior and tints fitted free. the foldable back seat could be usefull to some but i also have a pick up. Never really seen the need for paddle shifts on an automatic but then i dont try and race anybody. I guess a few extra cup holders might be fancy but personally i wouldnt bother waiting for them.

  6. 'We forget why we come here sometimes'

The Sketcheress tells me its altzhimers, i too often find myself staring in the fridge and cant remember what i opened it for, or walking into a room and not quite sure what i was looking for. At least you found yourself in a nice quiet spot for this 'senior' moment!!;)

  7. I'd agree with previous posts that Chong Mon is probably the best beach with some excellent high end hotels. If clear water is really important you may struggle on Samui but I have always found that Coral cove / silver beach between Chaweng and Lamai is pretty good. Decent kid friendly beach I dont recall any jet skis but I havent been there for a while. Couldnt recomend any hotels as havent been in any but maybe a help to narrow the field!

  8. Another suggestion is the yellow bus from Nathon direct to pattaya.VIP seat costs 1100 baht one way.Ferry leaves 3pm,bus at donsak leaves 4.45pm arrives north pattaya bus terminal at 5am.Its a good comfy ride, one stop of 20 mins. near Hua Hin.

    could be a winner.

heard/read some horror stories re overnight buses, have used planty vip buses in my times here vip overnight safe u reckon?

im over 40 and fairly thai savvy.

nothings a sure thing is it?but i found it ok if you've got plenty of time, beats paying 8000 baht return with bangkok air.

I guess it all depends on how much you value your time, if you are ok saving 2,700 baht to spend 14 hours traveling by the bus route as apposed to 3 hours on the plane route then its a good deal. Personally if going to Pattaya was my thing (which it isnt) I would probably want to get there and get on with whatever it is I was going there to do!!
