  1. Let's try this in the correct forum
  2. VFS haven’t refused anything as they have no say who will be granted a visa or not, decisions are made by UKVI staff, who in this case have made the right decision. As a number of posters have pointed out, the children are British Citizens and as such are not subject to Immigration control and cannot, or at least shouldn’t, be issued with a UK Visa.
  3. 1 - Biometric details can only be captured at the Visa Application Centre. 2 - The premium services are, in my humble opinion, totally unnecessary, the standard system works just fine. 3 - Applications certainly seem to be getting turned around in about three weeks or so at the present time. If you’ve already scanned the supporting evidence, they can be uploaded directly to the UKVI website prior to the visit to the Application Centre, there is no service charge if you don’t need supplementary services.
  4. From the current Europecar website: If you are renting outside of the country your licence was issued in, if you driving licence is not written in the English language and /or the characters cannot be read in the renting country, an International driving licence is mandatory. Note that your International driving licence is only valid if accompanied by your normal driving licence.
  5. That’s bizarre, whilst I don’t doubt what you’ve been told but an IDP is basically a translation of a licence which isn’t printed in English which of course Thai licences are. I’m currently in the UK where I’ve rented a car using my Thai licence, no questions asked.
  6. Your daughter will have no problem entering the UK with a UK passport with limited validity, or even an expired one. The passport confirms she a British Citizen and as such is not subject to Immigration Controls, whilst her passport may be about to expire her citizenship isn’t.
  7. If you want a card, which you don't actaully need, you can register via the App Store or Google Play, though,as Charlie H rightly points out, you don't actually need one makro or via Google Play makro same same, but different.
  8. "A few mythical global nomads"? I couldn't find a seat to drink a coffee in Treminal 21 yesterday due to the people occuying two or four seats at tables working on their computer, holding business meetings or simply asleep with their head on the table, most with dregs of some liquid in their cups, I gave up and went elsewhere. This seems to be the norm in Starbucks and they seem happy with it, I do wonder how they manage to make a profit, but i suppose they must, seems a strange business model.
  9. VFS only handle the receipt of applications, which are then processed by HMPO in the UK. I'm not the greatest fan of VFS, but they handled my recent application pretty well, though all they actually do is receive the application and forward to the appropriate Government Agency for processing.
  10. This has already been reported here UK Passport Office-workers-to-strike and here UK passport renwal I don't think we really need a third thread on the subject, so I'll close this one.
  11. I think this thread has run it’s course and can be closed. Just keep in mind that all questions on a visa application must be answered correctly, failure to do so may well result in the application being refused and if answered dishonestly, may result in the applicant being banned from making future applications for a lengthy period.
  12. l would think so, l believe there are a number of NHS schemes, you’d need to check.
  13. I used the service yesterday to send some cash from the UK to Malaysia for a charity donation, the whole process, from initiating the transfer to the cash arriving in KL, took a few minutes.
  14. I'm pretty sure that was dropped, it was certainly in the old Schengen Handbook, but it's not in the updated Schengen Code, at least I cannot find it, after skimming through all 138 pages, whilst it does mention the direct submission, it doesn't say the applicant has a right to do so. visa_code_handbook_consolidated_en.pdf
  15. You have to apply at the Consulate with jurisdiction for the main destination in the Schengen area, if you are travelling to various member states and a spending an equal amount of time in a number of them, then you should apply via the Consulate with jurisdiction for your point of entry into the Schengen Area. In theory once you have a Schengen Visa you can travel freely, but in order to obtain one you need to show flight and details of accomodation for the trip.
  16. It depends what country you're flying to, I imagine different countries have different rules. These are the requirements for the UK https://www.gov.uk/travelling-controlled-drugs I take prescribed drugs for a heart condition, my doctor the hospital I use has give given me a summary of the drugs prescribed, even though, at his suggetion, I buy OTC from a local pharmacy.
  17. This is the requirement as detailed on the Austrian Embassy website, this advises that a confirmed booking is not required, just a detailed itinerary: "Proof of the means of transport (reservation OR booking; presentation of a paid ticket is not required)Proof of the means of transport (reservation OR booking; presentation of a paid ticket is not required" https://www.bmeia.gv.at/th/oeb-bangkok/reisen-nach-oesterreich/einreise-und-aufenthalt/visum/
  18. I've used my Thai licence numerous times to rent cars in the UK, no companies have ever requested an IDP as my Thai licence fully meets the requirements.
  19. Where did you read it has to be a credit card? I certainly used a UK Bank debit card last month and a printed a Kasikorn Bank statement from their website for the proof of my address.
  20. I've used both my Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank debit cards in the UK, for both cash and purchases, I used all six digits of my pin.

  22. What is your final destination, most, if not, all destination countries have strict limits on how much tobacco you can bring into the country tax free. You will be aware that the tax free allowance is for personal use, not as gifts for friends who are helping out, it's not uncommon for customs officials to carry out checks, non smokers are likely to carry smoking implements with them. Whilst the chances of being caught are probably remote, it can happen, though might be lucky and just get a warning and have the tobacco seized.
