I had no problem getting a refund from Turkish, I called their call centre in Istanbul and they offered a refund, and waited on the phone whilst the email confirmation came through, they did advise that it would take three months, and it was to the day.

I on the other hand had 100% success with the previous system, with an instant approval of every report since day one, maybe I was just lucky. I recently reported using the new system, and whilst the receipt of report was acknowledged instantly, it took four days for the approval of my report to come through, I can live with that though.

You said "approved the stay until April", which they haven't. Your 90 reporting and leave to remain are totally different, you have to do both.

Looks like your post refers to Thai Immigration rather than to visas overseas, so let's try it in the Thai Immigration Forum. For clarification, Thai Immigration didn't approve your stay until April, that's when you next have to report, extending your stay here is a totally different process.

Whilst the OP may well have time to obtain a new passport, as has been correctly pointed out there is no requirement for a British Citizen to have six months remaining on their passport to enter the UK. The current advice from the HMPO is that an applicant should allow ten weeks for a new passport to be issued, the UK Embassy are not involved in the processing and issuing of passports. Whilst I agree that travellers should always be aware of the passport requirements for the destination country, I certainly wouldn't claim that it's a "rule of thumb" that you shouldn't travel on a passport with a limited validity. I do have one caveat, the OP isn't clear how long the child will be staying in the UK, if returning to Thailand then a new passport can be applied for in the UK, providing they have time, an online application is considerably cheaper than applying from here in Thailand, if they are remaining in the UK they can apply there at their leisure.

The visit and settlement visas are both very different and both require a different level of evidence, by the way the required income level is £18,600. My last transfer via the App was for 116,000 Baht sent to Singapore, the exchange rate on the day was good and the fee was 250 Baht, the cash arrived the same day. I wonder if they've changed their procedures?

Not always, I ordered some items recently, paid for the items when I ordered, after a couple of days of being listed as "packed", the order was listed as cancelled and the cost was automatically refunded to my debit card a couple of days later. My wife always orders COD, I think she has her personal driver, we're often out when the package arrives, that's why I don't use COD, she receives a call and pays the operative by bank transfer.
